    Kota Kinabalu City Mosque image
We have to pay RM10 to rent special clothes that we are required to wear on the mosque’s premises. Only certain parts of the mosque are accessible to tourists. The mosque is pretty huge and quite a sight to see. A must-visit when you visit KK. There are food stalls and restaurants along the mosque. The mosque is situated outside the city center and it would be best to use Grab to get there rather than use a taxi or public transportation, which is nearly non-existent. See more..

This is a very colourful temple with spectacular views down to the port, the ocean and back towards the centre of KK. There is a second temple next door and a third under construction all of which are very large. No surprise I guess when the Chinese Malaysians are the second largest ethnic group in the country. Some nice bronzes around the temple and extremely colourful carvings and buddhas inside. Worth a visit for the view alone. See more..

Kun Yam (Goddess of Mercy) Temple image
Kun Yam Temple, or Temple of the Goddess of Mercy, is a Chinese temple, very small and hidden away on a small hill slope. It is part of the Sandakan Heritage trail (Nr.6). The temple was built in 1868 and thus should be the oldest building in Sandakan which survived the war times. It definitely worth a visit, it has very touchy atmosphere. When we have been there, only a few people hanging around, so we didn´t disturb anybody´s prayers (otherwise only a few people would fit in the same time). The entry is free (they accept donations). A relatively small but beautifully built pagoda. A great spot for a bird's eye view of Tuaran town from the top. Caution is needed as the flight of stairs can be steep for some. See more..
