Truly a gem! The view is breathtaking, and it’s so underrated, I feel it should be publicized a lot more. It’s free - there’s no entrance fee and you can stay as long as you like taking countless photos and videos. Our drone shots probably didn’t do justice to the beauty of the place. We came back the next day to see it again. Must visit! See more..

Rumah Terbalik, the first upside down house of Malaysia is located in Kampung Telibong, Mile 21, Jalan Telibong, Tamparuli, Sabah, Malaysia. Nestled within the compound of Rumah Terbalik is also a souvenir shop (i.e. Tamu) well stocked with handicrafts and souvenirs and the 3D Wonders Museum. Using recycled wood and materials specifically to create a more local atmosphere, Rumah Tebalik has an area of 1,500 square feet and equiped with a living room, a dining area, a equipped kitchen, veranda, two bedrooms and a toilet. This fully furnished house is constructed with a slight tilt, and with everything fitted upside down inside the house, it certainly challenges the viewers' perspective when within. The kampong house signifies our past and heritage. Upside down is another perspective of seeing something. It's meant to be a fun way of looking at ourselves and life. As it is located along the main highway leading to Mt Kinabalu, Poring Hot Spring or even Kiulu River, it can help to enhance the already existing tour packages offered by travel agencies as being a short stopover point. A visit to the upside-down house guarantees to one of your most memorable experiences and it is a must-see attraction on your Sabah itinerary. As of February 2012, Rumah Terbalik has been listed within the Malaysia Book of Records as being the first upside down house of Malaysia! The 3D Wonders Museum is where visitors can explore the uniquely themed galleries, the first of its kind in Borneo, showcasing the importance of conservation while promoting the beautiful landscapes and the myriad of local cultures present in East Malaysia. Through the use of special art techniques, two-dimensional paintings will appear to pop out of the surface and come to life, immersing you in a vivid experience like no other. We are so glad that we did not miss this place. It host beautiful orchids indigenous to this place. There was even one which was supposed to be the second smallest orchid species in the world. It would be nice to have a tour guide for the short trip into the garden in order to discover the variety of interesting & unique plants, unless one is very familiar with the botanic species. Give yourself at least about 1 to 2 hours for the entire place. See more..

    Monsopiad Cultural Village image
Monsopiad Heritage Village is a traditional village with historical site in the heartland of the Kadazandusun people and it is the only cultural village in Sabah built to commemorates the life and time of the legendary Kadazan and head-hunter warrior "Monsopiad". The direct descendants of Monsopiad, his 6th and 7th generations have build the village on the very land where Monsopiad lived and roamed some three centuries ago to remember their forefather, and to give you an extraordinary insight into their ancient and rich culture. Take a step back into the past, to the days of head hunting and spirit worshipping, when the Bobohizan (High Priestess of the Kadazandusun), ruled the villages and took care of health and spiritual well-being of their people. More than just a Museum, the concept of the Monsopiad Heritage Village is to document, revive and preserve the cultures and traditions, as well as the beliefs of the Kadazandusun people. Monsopiad Heritage Village is privately owned and managed by his direct descendants. Your visit at Monsopiad Heritage Village contribute directly to the conservation of one Malaysia's rich Cultural heritages and traditions. See more..

    - Many places to visit
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Sabah image
Sabah is a state in Malaysia, and it is not small whereby a visitor could write a review here. You probably would need to write a book on it. I would recommend visiting Mt Kinabalu if you like the cool, greenary outdoors. Semporna for the diving. Ranau to see the Raffalsia flower, Sepilok to see the rehabilitation of the orang utan, Danum Valley to see the fauna and flora and many other places that this space is too limited. See more..

    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Tower of Heaven image
Spectacular views of rain forest hills, Darvil Bay, and the islands beyond. The road is in good condition, we had no problem driving to the top in our rental car. The Tower of Heaven is a feat of construction, and also a test of nerves! It was windy when we went, and at the top of the tower we could clearly feel the tower swaying with the wind! Amazing views from the top of the tower. There are several walking trails in the area, including a trail to the peak that starts next to the Tower. See more..

An 11RM Grab ride from KFC takes you there. From above the few hundred wooden steps you have a beautiful 360 degree view over Semporna area. You can see the volcano caldera from up there. In the museum at the foot of the steps one can learn about this archeological site. One of the two guys from the museum reception (you have to register before your ascend) took us back to town for the Grab rate. See more..
  16. 4.0 Mt. Trusmadi Apin-apin (4 reviews)
    - great hike but poor logistics
Spent More than 3 hours Mountains • Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Mt. Trusmadi Apin-apin image
Look to be honest - I didn't get to climb Mt. Trusmardi in the end. My wife and family are all Sabahan and as we were on our annual overseas trip back home to see the family I thought I'd book the Mt. Kinabalu climb again. This would be my 7th climb of Mt. Kinabalu since 1994 and my first since the tragic 2015 earthquake. Unfortunately as I had left my booking for Mt. Kinabalu until only 6 weeks before - all climbing slots were full. I was put onto a waiting list but wasn't too optimistic of gaining a slot. After persistence the KK tour company kindly gave me the alternative option of climbing Sabah's Mt. Trusmardi instead - which I'd heard from the family was also a brilliant climb and Malaysia's 2nd highest peak - although somewhat lower. However when I was given the quotation from the local KK tour company for the Mt.Trusmardi hike I almost passed out on the floor! A basic, no-frills overnight hike was RM3990 (AUD$1300/USD$950) for 1 person! For this exorbitant price all you get is 1x basic breakfast, 1x basic lunch, 1x basic dinner, a sleeping bag, a bunk bed in a shared unheated dorm/bunk room, guide, climbing fee, 'insurance' and transport from the local village. To me that is ridiculously overpriced - how can they justify that ludicrous price? Now reading another TA reviewer's experience below regarding this same hike (KellyM) - the 'guides' slept-in for the crucial summit sunrise ascent and had no knowledge of the area/mountain they were actually guiding on (!!!) - the hike that you are expected to pay RM3990 for! I have no problem with a basic, no-frills experience - but for AUD$1300 - that is just legal extortion. If I were to take my family of 4 that would equate to about AUD$5200 for an overnight hike! Some Sabah prices are just out of control these days. I politely declined the offer. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere... See more..
  17. 3.5 Keningau Oath Stone (4 reviews)
    - A Historical Pledge on an Oath Stone

    Keningau Oath Stone image
Situated in the interior district of keningau township is the prominent oath stone which now stands as a monument of promise between the people of Sabah and the Malaysian Government prior to the formation of Malaysia; alongside the huge state of Sarawak. It is also the sole historical attraction there is in the whole of Keningau. Look closely and you will see the inscription on the oath stone that remarks several points that the people of Sabah has control of over their land. The inscription in English would be the following:- Constitution of the Memorial Oath Stone 1) Freedom of Religion in Sabah 2) The Government of Sabah Holds Authority over Land in Sabah 3) Native Customs and Traditions Will Be Respected and Upheld by the Government In Return, the People of Sabah's Interior Pledges Loyalty to the Government of Malaysia The oath stone can be seen and visited during working hours in the Keningau District Office from Mondays to Fridays. - A Great Viewing Point

    Sinurambi Tambunan image
Also known as Tambunan Viewing Point. There is 2 way for you to be here: 1. Drive from Tambunan town, do take note of the challenging road condition to this place. 2. Hiking up to this place (difficulty level : easy to moderate, based from local) You may visit this place from 8am to 5pm and enjoy the beautiful view of Tambunan. If you are lucky, you can see Mount Kinabalu so clearly from this place. I spend about an hour just to enjoy the nature view and also fresh air. However, do take note that it can be too hot during noon time, do bring along your water, hats or umbrella. Sinurambi in Dusun Language means mesmerizing. It really is! Do consider to come to this place if you are visiting Tambunan. Plus, it is FREE & well maintain See more..

  22. 3.0 Batu Gong (1 review)
    - Hmmmmmmmm!
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Batu Gong image
I don’t really what to comment because batu gong seemed interesting if you read about it in Google or see people playing it in YouTube. However, when my party arrived at the Batu Gong place, we were surprised that 1) The hut which houses the batu gong is inside a private land, and 2) Even though the gate was wide opened, there was nobody inside to ask permission to see/view the batu gong. I wished that there was someone who was there to show us or brief us about its history and unique way of making music. It is somewhat a rare “musical instrument” in this world. See more..
