STUNNING when looking down on Gavanovac Lake with its serpentine boardwalks & fascinated trekkers tootling around. Words are not going to do justice to the overall impression - this is a visual masterpiece. To note; we walked in misty rain & wore anoraks & didn't need more to stay perfectly dry! Opened in 2008 at the 350th anniversary of Franciscan arrival to Karlovac, it represents one of the best preserved collections in the city with numerous artefacts dating centuries back. Located in the heart of the old town, offering a very interesting leap into the history of Karlovac with a good price - value ratio. - 5.0 Galovac Lake (25 reviews) from $13.74
-Less congested
Bodies of Water
Beautiful lake and somewhat less touristy (or at least it seemed that way) than other parts of the park. Easiest to access from Gate 2 (and then after a short ferry ride). Part of the Plitvice Jezera NP experience, so it's sort of a must-see in that regard, but it's also a slightly quieter part of the park as well. See more..

- 4.5 Marija Bistrica Church (49 reviews)
-Beautiful church
Religious Sites
I believe if you are religious you will love this place. The church is located in the hill with beautiful views to the country side. Inside is very peaceful and calm. I love the way that they have some holy water labeled to take away home. Candles cost 4 kunas The nativity was so beautiful. The architecture is so lovely I did not play attention if you have access for disabled people since the church has lots of stairs to claim See more..
- 4.5 Kozjak Lake (48 reviews) from $13.74
-Ride across or stroll along
Bodies of Water
Kozjak Lake is sort of the bridge between the Upper and Lower lake sections in the park. You can take a 20-minute or so ferry ride across and/or walk alongside it, both of which are nice to do. The ferries are electric, so you can enjoy a quiet ride--if you go early in the morning before the masses. Keep an eye out for cormorants and mallards. All ferry rides are included in the ticket price. See more..
- 4.5 Jasenovac Memorial and Museum (39 reviews)
-Historical sight of shame.
History Museums
We visited here from Banja Luka after seeing the sights in the Kozara National Park on our way to Kutina. Entering Croatia at the Gradina Donja border crossing, it was just 3 km further to this free 1967 museum. We always feel sadness to experience these sights but also an obligation to educate ourselves, not a place we want to go; but a place we should go. There is a lot to learn here with pictures, signs in English and altogether a very troubling sight, especially to see how extensive it was. See more..
- 4.5 Slapovi Milke Trnine (31 reviews) from $13.74
-Crazy Falls
Spent < 1 hour Waterfalls
The picture I submitted here is just one of the very nice falls in Plitvice. This one in particular is really crazy with all the outflows See more..
- 4.5 Mreznica River (28 reviews)
-A paradise for family camping on the river
Bodies of Water
If you are in Croatia and want to go swimming in the river, definitely go to the river Mrežnica. The river is clean, and the best beach in Mrežnicki Brig. Near the beach is a small waterfall. You can swim up to it and sit on it. Next to the beach is one small, but nice and tidy camp, and also restaurant and cafe. Prices in restaurants are very reasonable, for example, the price of a pint of beer is 1.5 euro, coffee costs less than one euro, the meat from the grill about 5 euros. We noticed that many tourists from the Netherlands and Germany visit the camp. It is particularly interesting for families with children. At weekends it is crowded, as locals come here to picnic. Place is pet friendly . See more..

-On the Upper Lakes section, looking up into the forest as the water cascades down.
Spent < 1 hour Geologic Formations • Waterfalls
Your first main Lake stop will likely be Burgeti Lake, so then Prstavacki is the first major waterfall & it is beautiful - sending the waters from Galovac Lake downstream. Everywhere words are lost as this place is a visual feast. Great photo op but, hey, remember to stop & enjoy the moment. See more..
