A paradise for family camping on the river
If you are in Croatia and want to go swimming in the river, definitely go to the river Mrežnica. The river is clean, and the best beach in Mrežnicki Brig. Near the beach is a small waterfall. You can swim up to it and sit on it. Next to the beach is one small, but nice and tidy camp, and also restaurant and cafe. Prices in restaurants are very reasonable, for example, the price of a pint of beer is 1.5 euro, coffee costs less than one euro, the meat from the grill about 5 euros. We noticed that many tourists from the Netherlands and Germany visit the camp. It is particularly interesting for families with children. At weekends it is crowded, as locals come here to picnic. Place is pet friendly .

Kayak safari on Mrežnica River - best activity after Plitvice Lakes
If you are staying in the Plitvice lakes area of Croatia and you only have time to do one other activity - the kayak safari on the Mreznica River is undoubtable the best day out. We booked with the Tour office based in reception at the Mirjana - Rastoke hotel. It is about 30 kms North/ West of Plitvice along the main road. The trip starts at 10am and lasts about 4 hours. The cost is 250 Kuna each including a 3 course meal with the biggest lunch platter of freshly roasted meats ( eg pig on a spit) I have ever seen. The kayaking was perfect - it had exactly the right dosage of adrenaline - enough to keep the whole group eagerly anticipating what was in store at the next rapid, but not too much to scare us half to death! About 12 people in the group and English speaking native Croatia guide. Plenty of stops for 'jumping' and photos. It was the best kayaking tour we have ever done - really fun, exciting ....exhilarating even and great value for money. If a wetsuit is offered - wear it because the water temperature drops rapidly about half way down the river. Kayaks are very stable and I don't think any of our group flipped out. The river water was crystal clear and passed through beautiful canyons and uninhabited woods. There were about 10 waterfalls and we crossed all of them in the kayak - with a bit of help and a push from our experienced guide - except one which was about 8 metres high and you could either jump or walk around. Shoes and helmet are provided - just bring some water and enjoy!!

Can't believe that we (still) have such river
People who are tired of overcrowded beach at the seaside definitely should visit Mreznica river. It's possible to do it as a one day trip (cca 90 km from northern Adriatic resorts) We have rent a canoe in the Restaurant/hotel Zeleni kut (Zvecaj). They took us with a minivan approximately 10 km upstream and leave us there. Than our "descending" started. River is actually several lakes connected with a small waterfals which can be passed without rafting knowledge. The best thing is that river/lakes are beautifully green, clean and warm from June to August. Also you can get your own waterfall, lay down and have a private Jacuzzi as much as you want. After cca 3 hours of easy rowing and swimming you reach again Zeleni kut where you can get a decent meal. Whole area is very well preserved with beautiful woods and old mills.
