The city of Karlovac and its defenders endured fierce attacks in the Homeland War and played a key role in the defence of the Croatian territory, as well as in the creation of the independent Republic of Croatia. Karlovac, a fortress city in the shape of a star, has always been an indispensable part of the European and Croatian history. This unique museum tells the story of the fearlessness of Croatian defenders and the invincibility of the city on four rivers. The permanent interactive museum exhibition containing 350 original artefacts and more than 3 hours of multimedia content through which visitors can discover contemporary Croatian history. The exhibition also presents 23 exhibits featuring large-scale combat technology, with an emphasis on the ones manufactured domestically. The museum also has a Memorial Room of the Fallen Karlovac Defenders from the Homeland War, a multi-purpose hall, library and a souvenir shop.See more..
We visited here from Banja Luka after seeing the sights in the Kozara National Park on our way to Kutina. Entering Croatia at the Gradina Donja border crossing, it was just 3 km further to this free 1967 museum. We always feel sadness to experience these sights but also an obligation to educate ourselves, not a place we want to go; but a place we should go. There is a lot to learn here with pictures, signs in English and altogether a very troubling sight, especially to see how extensive it was.See more..
5.0Franciscan Museum Karlovac(27 reviews) - Franciscan Museum - nice place to visit Friday: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM, 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Art Museums • History Museums
Opened in 2008 at the 350th anniversary of Franciscan arrival to Karlovac, it represents one of the best preserved collections in the city with numerous artefacts dating centuries back. Located in the heart of the old town, offering a very interesting leap into the history of Karlovac with a good price - value ratio. It's possible to arrange a visit even outside of the work hours via email or by phone (both are listed). *NOTE - CREDIT CARD not accepted/cash only. :)See more..
It's relatively new place to visit. It's based on two children books written by Mato Lovrak, who is well-known Croatian writer for children and teens. He served as teacher in local scholl. Place is especially interesting for children. There is lovely forest nearby, beautiful fishpond and swimming centre.See more..

5.0Muzej seljačkih buna(1 review) - Great useum dedicated to an important historical event History Museums
The museum was founded to mark the 400th anniversary of the great Peasant Revolt of 1573, known also as a Gubec’s Rebellion. It is located in the baroque castle of the Oršić family built in 1756 on the site of a medieval fortress whose remains are still in the inner courtyard. The castle has preserved a baroque chapel with original illusionist frescoes attributed to the famous master Anton Lerhinger, which today holds the exhibition Sacred Art of Hrvatsko Zagorje. The permanent exhibition of the Museum offers a complete overview of feudal Zagorje its history, culture and everyday life. The peasant revolt of 1573 is a central event, but feudal society is shown not only through the conflict of classes, but also through the layered changes that this social order in Hrvatsko Zagorje underwent from the late Middle Ages to its official abolition in 1848. There is also a nice wine cellar in the castle, with huge wine barrels from that period. In the vicinity of the Museum is a beautifully landscaped park, and a kilometer-long promenade that leads to Gupčeva lipa. This is one of the most important museums in the region, commemorating one of the greatest historic moments in the Croatian history, a must see for every visitor!See more..
5.0Holandska Kuca(1 review) - Modern museum with an eclectic collection of exhibits! Speciality Museums • History Museums I spent some two hours at this newly opened museum and I plan a return trip as I'm not quite done seeing all the different exhibits! It's situated in a refurbished 19th-century warehouse which was built in the style of dutch houses. In fact the name Holandska Kuca directly translated into English means Dutch House. The museum aims to portray Sisak's industrial past which goes back some two hundred or so years. The basement and ground floor cover this part of the town's history with a video installation, artefacts and wall displays. Currently, there is also a photography exhibition which portrays artistic images (!) from oil/gas manufacture. On levels 1 and 2 there are other exhibitions. I only had time for one and chose to see an interesting collection of gramophones which was brought to life by a very animated tour guide and curator! Overall the building is state of the art and the collection is an interesting insight into industrial history. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The museum is on one of Sisak's nicest, historical streets and opposite a riverside walking route lined with some nice cafes.See more..
4.0Gradski Muzej Sisak(1 review) - Visit to local museum History Museums I went here in July 2020. For a local museum, it's fairly well equipped and the exhibits are interesting. When arriving, the museum looks like an ordinary house but goes much further back and there is a modern extension to the rear which is on two storeys. The exhibition starts with pre-historic times, to Roman, then Medieval, Habsburg and more recent industrial times. Finally, there is a short display of local village/farmer culture. The shop at the end has a nice range of books and gifts. Overall the museum is a good attempt for a local museum to give a short but broad overview of the cities history.See more..
