    Beautiful park and castle
According to legend, Trakošćan got its name from the Thracian fortress (arx Thacorum), which allegedly existed in ancient times. Another tradition says that it was named after the Drachenstein knights who ruled these areas in the early Middle Age. The toponym Trakošćan was first mentioned in written documents in 1334. The owners of the fortress in the beginning are not known but from the end of the 14th century the owners were Counts of Celje, who at the same time ruled the entire Zagorje County. In the 16th century the king Maximilian donated the castle to Juraj Drašković and the family restored the castle in the 19th century together with a park. The immediate surrounding of the castle is designed as a landscape park in which the lake, meadows, groups of trees and shrubs form a harmonious horticultural whole. Various exotic species of trees have been planted in it, which, especially in autumn, give it color and dynamism. A most recognizable feature of Trakošćan is a large artificial lake, about a kilometer and a half long, with an area of about 17 hectares and a depth of about 2.5 meters. It was an interesting visit, although the atmosphere in the castle is a bit damp and cold, even in summer…

    Total jaw dropping beauty
My husband and I recently toured this magnification castle in the Croatian Highlands. It was immaculate and breathe taking. Being September it was also not packed with tourists so easy to take your time in a hotel room and really take in the details. It is postcard beautiful in person as in pictures. Unfortunately we were not able to take pictures in doors, as is the case with most historical properties. We loved it!! Recommend a side trip to the majestic castle that has a rich history . The drive there also scene and beautiful. There is a restaurant on the grounds if you need sustenance.
