This pathway is in fact the stations of the cross. It enables to see the different steps of Jesus’ ascension on the cross. However, if you’re not Christian, you can still like this randonnée, no worries. It will astonish you by the view you can get on the island, seeing it from above. This walkway contains two different experiences. The first are the stations of the cross on a rather easy and not very steep walkway that takes about twenty to thirty minutes. The second experience and the real adventure comes once you find the slightly hidden small path around the 12th station up the hill where you can walk on a steep path with sharp grass and often unstable ground completely unprotected by trees. Took us another hour two get up there and more than once I was close on giving up. You don't actually see much of the crater once up there, on the second radio tower/lookout you can see White Island though. Going down I was hardly able to stand stable, was often just sliding down on my bottom.See more..

The trail is easy because you just have to follow a pathway of 3,003 (i think more) concrete steps. However, be sure to pace yourself because it can really get tiring. Our 10-year old niece was with us during the trek so we had to slow it down a bit. It took us about 1 and 1/2 hour to go up. It was a wonderful experience. Note: Bring water. Don't forget to put on some insect repellant. When we got to the peak there were large mosquitoes. It's better to do the trek early in the morning.See more..
