4.5Masca Gorge Trail(2.059 reviews) - Great walk but challenging! Hiking Trails
This walk is currently only open at the weekend (winter months) and has to be booked in advance. Unless you have walking boots/shoes with a good tread you won’t be allowed to join the trail. The trail is a down and back route and the first/last 0.5km are steep - 200m ascent over a distance of 400m. The .5km to the sea is equally challenging. The path is well marked but rocky with steep steps in places. I (a reasonably fit 66 year old) managed it in 6 hours with a half hour break for lunch but many chose to turn round before reaching the beach, currently out of bounds. There are rumours that a ferry from the pier at the beach to a nearby port may start again in the summer. If it does the route will remain a challenge, but much easier.See more..
Nice walk takes about an hour from the start (the big stairs) and is pretty rough in a few places hence the need for footwear a bit better than flip-flops. A collection of nice restaurants when you reach Puerto Calero and the option of waliking back or taking the water bus for about 8 euros. Managed this walk a few times, felt obliged to have beers on arrival. Bonus.See more..
4.5Volcan El Cuervo(536 reviews) - Interesting visit & exciting end ! Spent 1-2 hours Hiking Trails • Volcanos
We stopped here late afternoon as the sun was casting dramatic shadows on the volcanoes. We walked clockwise, which leaves the crater entrance till the end. On entering the crater we spotted a Falcon swooping round a white pigeon. I set my phone on a tripod on video record and moved away. It soon came back for his kill, however each time someone arrived he was scared off. Still very pleased with the short video. I'll attach some still pics. So a great little walk with an exciting end !See more..

5.0Volcano Route(174 reviews) - Best trek of the island, amazing changing scenery throughout. Hiking Trails • Volcanos
We did 4 treks overall in La Palma and they all covered different terrain but this was the best! You can easily get a taxi to El Pilar from los Llanos or Santa cruz (we picked one up from the taxi rank behind plaza de la Almeda, the ship museum, €30 ~1hr, and you can park all day for free between calle carias and the start of LP101 near Almeda, just park in a white bay not a blue one). We walked to Fuentecaliente and took a bus back to Santa cruz (~1hr, they leave every 2hrs, €2.50 ish) but theres stuff to do in Fuentecaliente if you are early, like the bodegas/artisanal shop). It took us 5hrs, starting in the windswept and wet/windy moon scape at the top near El pilar, down through the forested area and on to the sunny green slopes above fuentecaliente. The views are amazing throughout. We went a few days before the transvulcania run but still only met 4 ppl going either way all day. Really easy to follow the signs. On the main street in Fuentecaliente there is a good tourist office if you want to confirm when the bus is etc. Take water / food, there are no villages or shops on the way.See more..
4.5Cubo de la Galga(158 reviews) - Beautiful laurel forest Spent 2-3 hours Hiking Trails • Forests
We loved our walk through the ancient laurel forest. An absolutely beautiful trail, very scenic and tranquil. Lots of birds and butterflies. This is a real highlight of La Palma and I would thoroughly recommend coming here.See more..
If you are familiar with Lazarote an Fuerteventura, you would not expect such a green environment. Very good for a family walk. Try to do it when there is not too much fog.See more..
