Beautiful laurel forest

We loved our walk through the ancient laurel forest. An absolutely beautiful trail, very scenic and tranquil. Lots of birds and butterflies. This is a real highlight of La Palma and I would thoroughly recommend coming here.

Natural beauty at its best. Definitely a must.
Was not that excited about the Mirador, but the walk was absolutely incredible. Loved the vegetation, walking through the rainforest was definitely a stunning experience. Navigating was fairly easy as well, there are signposts along the pathways. Make sure to wear proper shoes though, as some rocks can get quite slippery at times. All in all, a fantastic experience. Would definitely come back for another hike.

    Magnificent Scenery.
We drove from Santa Cruz to the start of this walk- only about 17Kms- & you can park by the information Hut which has limited designated parking. I did note that there is space over the road, back a bit & up a track for more parking. The man running the information centre was very pleasant & helpful ; he supplied us with a rudimentary map which is quite accurate & another sheet which lists some points of interest to see on the way but the print detail was rather tiny. .The walk is stated to be fairly easy but although it is well within the scope of anyone reasonably fit & active , bear in mind it is uphill all the way to Cuba de la Galga. At first one is walking on tarmac but this eventually changes to dirt & rock so decent walking footwear is advisable. The further one ascends the more spectacular the scenery becomes as you cross river beds & water gullies amid lush laurisilva & luxuriant ferns ; also some king sized brambles. We pressed on beyond Cubo de la Galga to the Mirador at Somada Alta. This included some of the best scenery with lush growth & plunging chasms where the water has cut deep into the rocks. Far reaching views out to sea from the Mirador & then you could return the way you came but for more variety ( & it is quicker ) we took the path for San Bartolome & La Galga. It is a steep descent in places but has interest in that one part goes through the rural & picturesque outskirts of La Galga. At a notice board one can circle back to Cubo de la Galga but we continued until a track on the left took us back to just above the start at the Information Centre. Fabulous walk of about 9kms. It was dry conditions at the time but even so you have to watch your footing on loose gravel, soil & slippery leaves. In wet weather it would be even trickier. Trust the map- it may look a bit sketchy but it is correct. We heard & saw quite a few small birds but not the endemic pigeons, unfortunately. I should imagine the walk is fantastic when the water is running.
