There aren’t many places that gather as many areas of interest for the cultural and natural heritage of Lanzarote as Cueva de los Verdes, a unique mythological-looking cave, full of legends and extraordinary landscape and beauty. It came about after the eruption of the Volcán de la Corona, and it’s one of the most impressive hidden wonders in the depths of Lanzarote. It was used as a hideout by the locals who needed shelter to protect themselves from invasions and attacks of pirates coming from the north of Africa during the 16th and 17th Centuries. In the 19th Century, it became a must for travellers, experts and European scientists due to the uniqueness of this volcanic territory, named after a family that kept their cattle in the area, the story goes See more..

An absoultely amazing experience to get a guided tour into this underground vulcanic world. Highly recommended for those who want to experience something different in this beautiful island. This is one of this geological things hard to explain but easy to enjoy. The big waves get into caves and break. The foam goes out through holes on the roof ad there we are. Amazing show. Way better late in the afternoon when the sun going down offers a wide range of different colours. If you are in Lanzarote, you have to go! See more..

This little village was our last stop on a day trip to the west and it turned out to be the best choice to end the day. Tiny sleepy village with a beautiful black sand beach and interesting caves just around the rock. It was a surprise that these caves have a special place in the islands history. Reserve a good several hours for this place if you want to do both the beach and the caves. We did visit both caves down and it was an amazing feeling to be there. See more..

We heard about the ravine and its caves from the bar staff in our hotel. We did not know much but since we had a rented car, we decided to drive there one day. The museum at the beginning of the ravine was very informative about the life of the native people, how they lived in the caves, stored food, buried the dead etc. It's a must to visit. Further up the ravine you can see people still living in the cave houses and you can walk up and visit them. We found one that is a souvenir shop too so we could enter. Further up there is a dead end where the road goes up a mountain. There is a lovely restaurant there with good and interesting food (not just the usual tapas food) at reasonable prices. Great for a day trip. See more..
