Our 2nd time that we joined sailor Marco (and his wife Monica) on a sailing trip. Again a great experience. Booking is a very easy process and he lets the crew do the sailing most of the time, which is so cool. We have seen seals enjoying their sunbath as the weather was stunning for sailing. We will do this again for sure! Thanks Marco & Monica for the great experiencr!! See more..

- 5.0 Waterfront Jachtcharter (52 reviews)
-Great ships, great team
Boat Rentals
We chartered a Linssen Grand Sturdy 40 the week before Easter. Danny was very helpful in preparing the trip and took great care in explaining everything to us despite of our rather delayed arrival. The ship was in perfect condition, looking like new. Plenty of space and comfort on board and very nice to sail! The marina in Kortgene is excellent, from the car to the ship it was less than 50 meters and plenty of chariots were available. We spent a fantasic week on board and the return was easy, since fuel station and waste pump are directly in the marina. We highly recommend Waterfront Jachtcharter if you look for a sailing or motor yacht in Zeeland. See more..

Even I have taken my kids for a ride. They got the time of their life. - 5.0 Bunkerverhalen Dishoek November '44 (36 reviews)
-Underrated attraction
Spent 1-2 hours Military Museums • Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks
We were everso impressed with the bunker tour. The couple who showed us the bunkers were knowledgeable, friendly and clearly passionate about the restoration of the bunkers. Both spoke English extremely well and gave us so much information about the Battle of the Scheldt. This is a 'must- see' attraction for any WW2 enthusiasts and very reasonably priced at just 8 euros for an adult. See more..

- 5.0 Stadsbrouwerij Middelburg (28 reviews)
-What a fantastic place to go
Breweries
Going to a brewery and drink the beer where the company is proud of always is a special treat. I have seen a number of fine examples of this, but so far nothing beats the Middelburg city brewery with their Hosternokke beer. Not that the beer is more exclusive than in other places (just good beer!), but the atmosphere is really great. Not pretences, just enjoy yourselves in an intimate little bar. Take a tasting of 3 of the 8 draft beers available, and then pick what you like most for a full glass. See more..

- 4.5 Stoomtrein Goes-Borsele (99 reviews)
-Historic train in the rain
Spent 2-3 hours Speciality Museums
Lovely activity for train enthusiasts, those young at heart or generally historically interested. Lovely way to feel and experience history. The steamtrain and it's stations give you moneys worth of experiences and was a good days activity. This is indeed best experienced on a sunny day, but despite the rain we had a good day. Sometimes it was obvious that this was not very professional, but my hat off to all the volunteers making the train running days come through. See more..

- 4.5 Vrouwenpolder Beach (87 reviews)
-Great nude beach, popular with Belgian, Dutch and German gays.
Beaches
Vrouwenpolder Beach has also a naturist section. It's very popular with Belgians as they don't have anything similar in Belgium. And especially gays are fond of it. There's always some cruising around but be aware, it's not allowed to walk in the dunes. But as the distance between 2 warning signs is rather large, you can always pretend you're not really in the dunes. See more..
- 4.5 Lighthouse Westkapelle (high) (81 reviews)
-A moving experience..
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Lighthouses
There's some confusion in this review because the lighthouse is officially the very tall building right in the town not the red and white structure shown in two of the photos. In the grounds of the lighthouse are graves and monuments remembering the civilians who were killed in 1944 during the fighting to liberate Walcharan. On 1 Nov 2014 I attended the 70th anniversary memorial ceremony to remember those who died. When you visit here walk round the memorials reading the names and ages - it's very moving. See more..

We bought one box, sparkling is bit expensive. But there is some extra value due its rarity. See more..

- 4.5 Zuidhavenpoort Zierikzee (58 reviews)
-Once effective protection of city and harbour
Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings
Built during medieval times before gunpowder was invented or at least not widely used yet, The core of Zuidhavenpoort dates from the 14th century and was improved in the 1500s. End 18th century the gatebuilding got its definitive shape. As a military object it must have been impressive in 16th century Zeeland and effective in protecting the harbour and city, though eventually after a long siege Zierikzee fell to the Spanish (1576). The city never really recovered, one of the reasons so many historic buildings have remained intact. More prosperous cities demolished most medieval structures. See more..
- 4.5 Liberation Museum Zeeland (56 reviews)
-Fantastic collection and preservation of WWII info and artifacts! I learned so much!
Wednesday: 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Speciality Museums
The Bevrijdingsmuseum (Liberation Museum) in Zeeland shows the eventful history of Zeeland during World War II. The museum has a particular focus on the 'Battle of the Scheldt'. Until now, there has been too little awareness and recognition, both nationally and internationally, of the importance of this battle. The largely forgotten Battle of the Scheldt was the longest and fiercest battle on Dutch territory. What was at stake was the opening-up of the port of Antwerp to shipping. This would make it possible to provide the Allied war effort with a crucial supply line and allow the stalled offensive in Western Europe to starting moving again. The outcome of this crucial operation was directly decisive for the further course of the Second World War in Western Europe. The museum also pays tribute to the Zeeland Battalion. This consisted largely of volunteers who, after the liberation of Zeeland, wanted to join in the fight for the liberation of the Netherlands and Western Europe. After World War II, however, the battalion was sent to the Dutch East Indies. From 2017, visitors can also see the new 3-hectare Bevrijdingspark (Liberation Park) in Zeeland. The concept of the Liberation Park is unique. Nowhere in Western Europe is there a similar layout. Set amongst the characteristic Zeeland elements of water, beach and dikes, the park illustrates the period of the 1939-1945 war and the Battle of the Scheldt in particular. The unique and preserved noodkerk (emergency church) of Ellewoutsdijk was reconstructed and rebuilt in the park. This emergency church, after the destruction of the original church by a bombardment, was constructed from so-called Nissen huts. Another unique feature is the Stiltebos (silent wood), a place where there is room for contemplation and reflection. In addition, the Liberation Park features bunkers, a bailey bridge, roadblocks, a Sherman tank and so on. See more..

- 4.5 Rijksmonument Kuiperspoort Middelburg (34 reviews)
-KUIPERSPOORT MIDDELBURG; an architectural gem dating from 1642
Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings
I enjoyed the charming historical alley called "Kuiperspoort";The 17th century buildings are reached via a discreet gate located hidden behind the canal called Rouaanse Kaai. The wooden barrels needed to store water, beer and wine for the 17th-18th century trade-ships were made here. A Kuiper is the Dutch word for a maker of wooden barrels. In the 17th and 18th century,Middelburg trade companies(WIC,West Indische Compagnie) were an important investor in the Transatlantic Slave Trade to Surinam and Curacao as well as the spice trade (VOC) to the East Indies. This secluded alley maintains the historical architecture of that period, but obviously the living conditions are much improved making for a quiet residential area. See more..

Scuba & Snorkelling
Even in the winter, you still have things to enjoy at this lake area. It is quite a big lake. After getting information about a colony of Flamingos in the lake, we drove to the village 'Battenoord'. We parked our car at the harbour and walked along the dyke to find the flamingos and Yes!, they're busy fishing in the water. And on the side of Browersdam, we saw a seal and also mussel farm. There is so many kind of water birds, windsurfers, sheeps and of course sailers. Absolutely recommended See more..

- 4.5 Panorama Walcheren (31 reviews)
-Hidden treasure in Vlissingen!
Wednesday: Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Art Museums
et Panorama Walcheren surprises the visitor with a unique art project of nine mega paintings, up to 3 meters high and from fourteen to forty meters wide. Each arranged in a curve, so that it feels itself to become part of the image. These are characteristic Walcheren places, each with its own atmosphere and season. In the old machine factory of shipyard De Schelde, now a dynamic Vlissingen development area, the works come into their own. They have been made since 2010 by the Middelburg painter Jo Dumon Tak with a team of volunteers. One work every year. The Amsterdam painter Robert Vorstman is now working on the tenth canvas in his studio: The summer beach at Dishoek, under Zoutelande. Look behind the scenes and see how such a panorama is created. See more..
- 4.5 de Oostkerk van Middelburg uit 1667 (30 reviews)
-Surprising church building
Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings • Churches & Cathedrals
The construction of the Oostkerk started in the 17th century and was designated as a Protestant church. Furthermore, the church has a surprising architecture, being round under a single cupola. The organ is also noteworthy, being from the 18th century. The interior of the church is typical Protestant, shunning the lavish paintings and statues, the hallmark of most Catholic churches See more..

-Badstrand Vlissingen;an urban beach on Westerschelde near the historic centre of town
Beaches

To the west the beaches become less build up and on warm sunny days there are less visitors as well. These beaches strech all the way to Westkapelle have names like Nollestrand,Duinstrand,West Duin. I enjoyed seeing the sunset and on less crowed days several species of marine birds can be seen on Vlissingen's beaches.Bird Species I saw on the Badstrand include Kentish Plover-(Strandplevier);Turnstone(-Steenloper),Oystercatcher-(Scholekster).
