Hiking in all seasons
Each year, the guides of 'The Drowned Land of Saeftinghe' organise a Christmas hike of 3 hours, followed by hot chocolatemilk, bubbles and sweets. in 2016, it was very misty and freezing, but the hike was worth wile the cold temperature. It was muddy, but interesting to listen to the history of the region, discovering edible plants. Luckily, I had help from others to pull me out of the mud when my boots remained stuck. I recommend wearing rain protection if you don't want your clothes to get dirty.

Enjoy a quiet walk
Het Verdronken land van Saeftinghe is a natural 'flood area'. If you want to go for a quiet walk in nature. This is definitely the place to go. You enter the area at your own risk, but there are 2 well marked routes. One 'droge planken' route (1km). As the area is flooded regularly, passages are made in the form of bridges made of wooden boards. And then there is a 'regenlaars' or rain boot route (2km). A bit more adventurous walking through the mud and water on wet days. The area is nice an quiet, you can enjoy some bird watching. Some days you may be the only one walking the area. A little place of beautiful nature to enjoy. At the visitors centre you can also rent a kiddies bag, with a crab net. Kids can then do little assignments at marked spots in the area.
