Badstrand Vlissingen;an urban beach on Westerschelde near the historic centre of town
Vlissingen municipality offers its visitors 6 beaches;Badstrand in front of Boulevard Evertsen is the most urban.Build up and busy Badstrand Vlissingen is situated in front of the high-rise apartment towers that face the busy marine traffic on the waterway of Westerschelde.The large ships can be seen passing in front of the beach. To the west the beaches become less build up and on warm sunny days there are less visitors as well.These beaches strech all the way to Westkapelle have names like Nollestrand,Duinstrand,West Duin. I enjoyed seeing the sunset and on less crowed days several species of marine birds can be seen on Vlissingen's beaches.Bird Species I saw on the Badstrand include Kentish Plover-(Strandplevier);Turnstone(-Steenloper),Oystercatcher-(Scholekster).

Nice to access sea
It might not be THE beach, but quite easily accessible and worth walking there even if it is not the summer season you go there. Jogging or walking are an option.

City beach
The beach closest to the historic center of Flushing is called 'badstrand' (bathing beach). Quite unique in the Netherlands due to its proximity to a city center and perhaps also because of the passage of large ocean-going vessels close to the shore. Last June one of these ships caused a small tsunami, actually it was just a big wave, but strong enough to sweep people off their feet. Three people among them two young children were brought to hospital. However, overall it is safe due to the presence of life guards and very clean (blue flag status). Peace and quiet seekers head further northwest.
