  3. 5.0 Musee De l'Abeille Vivante (10 reviews)
    - Excellent details about bees
Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Natural History Museums • Science Museums
    Musee De l'Abeille Vivante image
This museum explains in great details everything about bees and honey, from the history of bee keeping to the fine details of their anatomy, and everything else you could think of. The staff are great enthusiasts for bees, which is very helpful. All the information is only in French, and a good ability to read French is required to get the most from it. Quite a lot of 'hands on' stuff for children of all ages. There is a very small shop for honey etc. In the same place as the Oulja pottery and craft complex, so the two can be combined. Out of town and no public transport that I could find. Could get a taxi there, but might not be one for the return. I walked 40 minutes from the tram stop by Sale Medina. See more..

  6. 4.5 Mausoleum of Mohammad V (2.541 reviews)
    - A white masterpiece
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Mausoleum of Mohammad V image
You can enter this mausoleum free of charge. It faces the Hassan Tower. The mausoleum was completed 6 years after the death of King Mohammed V in 1967. The building is designed by a Vietnamese architect called Vo Toan. Three royals are buried here Mohammed V, Hassan II and his brother, Moulay Abdellah. You can see onyx graves, zillion mosaic, hand carved wooden ceilings with gold embellishments. The guards stationed here are fabulously attired and very friendly, unlike those posted outside the British and Turkish palaces. You can see old Moroccan Hafiz reciting Quran here. See more..
  7. 4.5 Kasbah des Oudaias (2.256 reviews)
    - Medieval fort at strategic location
    Historic Sites
    Kasbah des Oudaias image
On a hill where the Bouregreg river meets the Atlantic ocean is the Kasbah des Oudaias. Like any kasbah in North Africa it is the best fortified part of a city, a stronghold where to retreat or from where to attack. This one is most spectacular in appearance because of the natural setting. Mostly built during the 12th century during the heydays of Almohad rule. After the death of al-Mansur in 1199, this kasbah lost significance and the new town of Salé on the other side of the river became more important. Currently the kasbah is undergoing renovation and repair work. A gentrified hotspot for tourists is perhaps going to take away some of its charm. See more..

  10. 4.5 Tramway Rabat-Salé (228 reviews)
    - Frequent, Fast, Clean, Cheap, Safe, Modern
    Trams
    Tramway Rabat-Salé image
Rabat was the first city I visited in Morocco. Using the tramway there spoiled public transport for me in every other city I visited! Fast, super cheap, frequent, clean, safe, modern equipment.. in other words, probably the sort of public transport America should have a lot more of. All Trams have Wi-Fi! It was difficult for me to keep up with which station I was at and how many more until my stop - especially because the list of stations was in Arabic & French... But with Google Maps on my smartphone, I could see exactly where I was in real time along the route and watch what the next station coming up would be. See more..

  13. 4.5 The Currency Museum of the Bank Al-Maghrib (39 reviews)
    - Paintings of Morocco by foreigners plus coins
    Speciality Museums
The Currency Museum of the Bank Al-Maghrib image
This museum in a bank has two areas of focus and does both of them exceedingly well. For art lovers, start here to view paintings of Morocco by foreign artists, then move to the Museum Mohamed VI to see how Moroccan artists have themselves portrayed their country. Numismatists may not even notice the paintings, as the museums displays and commentaries on coins (many of them very ancient) are the best that I have ever seen. See more..
  14. 4.5 Moulay Bousselham Lagoon (38 reviews)
    - Something really different from the rest of Morocco
Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Moulay Bousselham Lagoon image
The ocean enter the countryside and give to the onlooker a suggestive view, something really different from what you should expect from Morocco. The only real problem seems to be the large number of stinger. One of the nicest aspect is the possibility like frequently in coast town of Morocco to buy your fresh fish and brings it to the restaurant you chose... the cooker will prepare you the fish and it will be served to you directly at the table. Cheep and chic! See more..

I was really impressed with the wide array of crafts available at this complex. You can see artisans at work and quality is quite good. It wasn't crowded when I visited and I wasn't hassled at all. If you'd in Rabat and want to buy souvenirs, this is well worth the visit. See more..

  20. 4.5 Grand Theatre De Rabat (6 reviews)
    - Still work in progress
    Architectural Buildings
    Grand Theatre De Rabat image
When finished it will be the biggest theater in the Arab world and Africa. Big is not always beautiful, but from a distance it looks promising. The design is by Iraqi born Zaha Hadid (one of her latest, before she died in 2016). Completion was scheduled in 2019, but now July 2022 it is still a work in progress. For some reason is not possible to approach the building on foot. Guards will send you away, though cars are allowed to pass by! See more..
  21. 4.5 Bab Rouah (5 reviews)
    - Robust beautifully decorated Almohad gate
    Historic Sites
    Bab Rouah image
Very similar to Bab Agnaou in Marrakech, as it was built during the same time period (end 12th century) at the orders of the same caliph al-Mansur. However, the location of Bab Rouah is much more prominent. It is on a crucial junction in Rabat with lots of car traffic. More exposed to the wind as well, as it is a bit higher up. Note the stone-carved ornamentation on various semi-circles typical for the Almohad period. In a pleasant way it is perhaps distracting a bit from the military purpose of the robust structure. Inside is an art gallery. See more..
  22. 4.0 Medina of Rabat (1.625 reviews)
    - Pleasant historic ambiance; not too many tourists (yet)
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Medina of Rabat image
It is hard to imagine Rabat only had a population of around 20,000 when the French invasion started in 1907. Most people lived in the old medina surrounded by walls that had lost their efficacy as a defense against hostile intruders. No one had bothered to demolish them. Nowadays they form a fine demarcation line between the old and the new city and add to a pleasant historic ambiance. The medina of Rabat is perhaps small, but not as cramped as the ones of Fez or Marrakech. The alleys are generally a bit wider and there is less motorized traffic going through. Moreover, there are far less tourists. The ongoings are more determined by locals and more or less permanent residents. Vendors are more relaxed and prices are closer to normal Moroccan standards. 23. 4.0 Hassan Tower (1.353 reviews)
    - Worth a visit
Spent 1-2 hours Architectural Buildings • Religious Sites

  26. 4.0 Les Jardins Exotiques de Bouknadel (142 reviews)
    - Fun day out of the city
    Gardens
Les Jardins Exotiques de Bouknadel image
How you spend your day there no doubt depends on who you go with. We were three very silly girls and it was non stop giggles... The gardens are so beautifully designed and there's lots of bridges to cross and little tunnels to go under, the children there seemed to be having as much fun as us... It's nicely shaded from the sun and there are plenty of places to sit and relax. I'd definitely recommend it, we got off the bus early where there's a street of BBQ shops and had lunch first. Yum See more..
  27. 4.0 Cathedrale Saint-Pierre (135 reviews)
    - Christians - go to church here when you're in Rabat!
    Spent < 1 hour Churches & Cathedrals
    Cathedrale Saint-Pierre image
This Catholic Church is open to all Christians from anywhere for their 11:00 AM Sunday service, and indeed you'll be among Christians from all over the place. The service is in French, but there's a service sheet so you can follow along somewhat. The clergy have a friendly attitude, and the place is packed! Best of all is the choir, full of young singers mostly from sub-Saharan Africa, and they have a great sound and are well-directed. I went away with a lot of the tunes stuck in my head and my heart. The building itself is really pretty, and it would be nice to see, but I think the heart of it is making it to a mass. See more..
  28. 4.0 Sale Medersa (72 reviews)
    - Must see in Sale Medina
    Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM, 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Sale Medersa image
This is the only official tourist sight in Sale - so if you are staying on this side of the river then it is a must see, might even be worth a tram ride from Rabat for a half day explore of Sale Medina. Only 10dh entry - it is much smaller than the famous medersas in Fes, Marrakech etc so wont take long to explore but it has an impressive main atrium and panoramic views from the roof terrace. We were the only visitors as not many take the time to visit Sale. See more..
  29. 4.0 Jardin D'essais (47 reviews)
    - Wonderful Rabat gardens
    Spent < 1 hour Gardens
    Jardin D'essais image
Initiated in 1914 during French rule, this garden of botanical trials is a well designed and maintained 17ha large green area in the southwest part of the city. It was reopend in 2013 after a long period of renovation. The original 1917 design of Jean Claude Nicolas Forestier (Hausmann tradition) was more or less left intact. Anyway the result is wonderful. I especially liked the different kinds of flowers and the sections with water. There is also plenty of shade. Opening hours 9:00 - 17:30 Free entry See more..
  30. 4.0 Assounna Mosque (38 reviews)
    - Grand at a prominent location
    Religious Sites
    Assounna Mosque image
It feels like a 1969 mosque, the year of its last renovation or rebuilt. For some reason Hassan II was fascinated by grandeur and big size. There was more to come. Later during his rule another huge even bigger mosque was built in Casablanca. Assounna mosque is at a prominent location on avenue Mohamed V near the royal palace. Non-muslims are not allowed to enter. See more..
