Mausoleum of Mohammad V, Rabat-Sale-Kenitra, Morocco

4.5 (2.541 reviews) Spent Ranking #2 in Rabat Points of Interest & Landmarks

A white masterpiece

You can enter this mausoleum free of charge. It faces the Hassan Tower. The mausoleum was completed 6 years after the death of King Mohammed V in 1967. The building is designed by a Vietnamese architect called Vo Toan. Three royals are buried here Mohammed V, Hassan II and his brother, Moulay Abdellah. You can see onyx graves, zillion mosaic, hand carved wooden ceilings with gold embellishments. The guards stationed here are fabulously attired and very friendly, unlike those posted outside the British and Turkish palaces. You can see old Moroccan Hafiz reciting Quran here.

Mausoleum still closed as of Feb 24, 2023. Can view from outside.
I had a hard time finding out if the mausoleum was open or closed and can now report that it is still closed as of Feb 24, 2023. You can enter the complex to view the buildings from outside and it´s still a good area for photos, but you can´t enter the mausoleum building anymore. I don´t know when/if it will ever reopen.

A visit to Mausoleum of Mohammad V
We visited this place as part of our Gate 1 Travel city tour of Rabat before heading for ancient Roman city of Volibulis. Very historical site with plenty of photo opportunities. Entrance is free.
