   just a short bus trip from Beijing CBD is the great wall of China. A wonder by all meanings of the word. Weather you appreciate History, Architecture or culture the great wall will simply wow and overwhelm you. Its larger that it looks on photos, higher and physically more challenging to climb that videos or photos can ever show. the market place at the bottom with food, artifacts and memorabilia's is a wonder o its own.     It is a principle I travel by. When you end up in a new place - find a park and spend time there. This is where you find the spirit of the town or city. How the citizens treat their parks will tell you who they are. I go to Shenyang regularly on business. I specifically stay at a hotel two blocks away from the park. Early morning I will meet the rising sun with a jog. The smile that was born on my face when I discovered this park pops back when I reach the pathways that lead through the park. I will also meet the smiles of the early-morning runners, walkers, cyclists, chatters, anglers, tennis, tai-chi, basket ball......and the brids and trees and flowers. Over the weekends I will spend a longer day here. I go for a long run one way and spend the rest of the morning strolling back as the park gets busier and the families arrive.     Because I was a bit disappointed in the old city of xingcheng I decided to go to the beach. Weather is sunny, but with a sturdy wind. Took a taxi there to have some of the cobwebs blown from my head. It looks like a nice place. Might be a good place to spend a couple of days when you are a bit tired of moving around. At least when it is bit warmer and places have opened up. There were a couple of people, like me, enjoying the view of the sea and enjoying the wind. Seems like they are preparing for the season. Cleaning up, finishing some of the hotels on the boulevard. Cleaning the sand of the beach. Nothing open yet except at the far end on the boulevard, left from the statue, behind the gate, there was at least one restaurant open . To the right from the statue there seem to be some nice hotels. The stone boulevard turns into a wooden pathway around the rocks. Don't be alarmed when you are in your own and all of a sudden you here a voice. It is the recording of chanting in a small Buddhist shrine. See more..

    It is a little out of the way, and there is no public transport to get there, but worth the trip. It is basically a bridge section with a restored section heading from the river up the mountain. The wall was easy to walk and the view fantastic. There is also an elaborate Tunnel system built during the Ming Dynasty that is worth the walk. I strongly reccommend having someone with you who is fluent in Mandarin. We negotiated with a local man who hired out his 3 wheeled car and droves us the 40 minute trip from the Shanhaiguan Pass section of the Great wall and then waited 3 hours for us whilst we looked about.
