4.5"9.18"Historical Museum(124 reviews) - First rate museum that provides great insight Speciality Museums
This museum commemorates September 18, 1935, the day Japanese forces invaded China and subsequently occupied Shenyang and the surrounding peninsula. It displays disturbing photos depicting the carnage of war.See more..
4.0Lushun Museum(71 reviews) - Pitty not many Chinese and expats in Dalian visit this place. Tuesday: 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM Speciality Museums
An excellent museum in two 1915-style buildings constructed by the Japanese during their occupation of Manchuria. One building houses a brilliantly displayed range of Chinese and other Asian ceramics and the famous mummies from Central Asia collected by the brilliant Otani Kozui. Two of the six mummies of the Otani Collection are here. Also worth looking at are the jade and cloisone collections. The other building contains a very good display on the local area and one on the Silk Road - However few of the labels are in good English.See more..
4.0Liaoning Provincial Museum(50 reviews) - If you are a fan of arts and crafts from ancient times, this is the place Tuesday: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Speciality Museums
On the ground floor there are expositions of paintings and mural inscriptions. While I found it interesting to see an artist of the 18th century depicting the usual stylized cherry blossom branches, here you could see a fly being eaten by a praying mantis on it. The real interesting stuff for me started from the second floor. They had on loan from Sichuan parts of the Mystery Men exhibition, where they showed artefacts from this culture no one knows where it came from thousands of years BC. Stunning. On the third floor its dedicated to Liaoning province, and for me the Tang dynasty statues and artefacts were quite amazing. and by the way. The entrance to all Provincial museums is free.See more..

4.0Shenyang Aviation Museum(24 reviews) - Great Museum for little money Tuesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Speciality Museums
Getting a great overview about the Chinese Aviation History, especially here in Shenyang. Pitty, most of the explanations are only in Chinese, but lots of real planes, models and pictures. See more..
This great museum is not far from the 9.18 museum. But have a detailed address as many taxi drivers don't know it. The POW camp is free to enter and has walls, watch towers and three buildings to explore. The buildings include recreated POW bunks, wash rooms and Japanese offices. There is also a large display on Allied forces in China - the largest exhibit and admission of its kind I have seen in China. The overall message is friendship between the Allies and Chinese. Allow one hour for visiting. I'll upload photos at a layer date. See more..
Very moving. The Chinese are up front about showing the brutality of the Japanese occupation. This is a memorial to a large massacre that occurred in Fushun. You will see the actual unearthed site. It should take about a half a day to see. See more..
3.5Jinzhou Museum(5 reviews) - Less than spectacular Tuesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Speciality Museums
Museum grounds are quite nice but the museum itself is very dark and exhibits are quite sparse. Except for the age of the items, it’s quite boring. Saving grace is the bell performance which is quite nice and well done. Not a must see for sure. I could easily have skipped it.See more..
4.5Anshan Museum(5 reviews) - Considering the size and age of the city, there is a decent display Tuesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Speciality Museums Anshan is not an old city. The place was started in the early part of the 20th century when the Japanese set up an iron and steel mill in the area. So one would not expect much in a city museum for a new city like this. However, although Anshan city is new, the surrounding area has a long history. One hall in the museum shows off much of that early history. Another hall displays the history of the iron factory that is the major employer in the city. A third hall contains art and calligraphy while the fourth hall showcases famous people from Anshan and photographs or famous visitors to the city. Of these, the first two are of interest to foreign tourists, the latter two less so. All the exhibits are labelled in Chinese. There are English descriptions on some wall displays but not on all of the displays. Even then, the Chinese descriptions are rather basic and could be improved significantly. The museum is free to enter as long as you bring ID with you e.g. your passport.See more..
