I didn't mean to but got happened to visit this place on 15th, August, which was the day Japanese surrendered. It made my visit more meaningful and unforgettable. When i looked around the prison inside out, I couldn't help feeling anger and sadness. Many of my ancestors not only got a deathh penalty here, but also got literally killed at this place, on the day before 15th, August. This was such a tragedy that happened in human history, and more tragic thing is that there has not been an apology about it and less and less people remember it over time. For me it was really worth a visit. I was proud that many of my ancestors did not give up our independence in spite of 35 years under Japanese. Thankfully I realized that I am living in the period what they dreamed of, which i did not realize before. I wrote my review in English because i want to share my feelings and thoughts for this place with more people around the world. and hope you can visit here somday in your life.See more..
4.0Shenyang Zhaoling Mausoleum(104 reviews) - Beautiful historical site set inside a sprawling park Tuesday: 8:30 AM - 6:00 PM Historic Sites • Ancient Ruins
This was our favourite of the places that we visited in Shenyang. An extensive complex of beautiful historial buildings. We spent a couple of hours wandering around here, and could have stayed longer - it is so peaceful. We found the buildings here even more impressive than the Imperial Palace. The park it is in, Bei Ling park is well worth exploring too, you could easily spend a full day between the park and the mausoleum. The entry to the park itself was 5RMB or entry to the park and mausoleum was 50RMB when we visited.See more..

4.0Fuling Tomb(32 reviews) - A Nice Escape from the City Tuesday: 6:30 AM - 4:30 PM Historic Sites • Monuments & Statues
The tombs, more commonly known as the East Tomb Park (Dong Ling Gong Yuanr), are a great outing from the city. Just a few kms outside of the third ring road, the park is wooded and lush. The tomb sits at the back of the park and is an earthen mound. Several 17th century Chinese structures were built on top of a hill just before the tomb, as sites where no doubt ceremonies to honor the emporer were held. The structures are similar to those in Beijing's Ming Tombs, but on a smaller scale. Quite interesting. The walkway to the tomb is lined with Chinese mythological creatures and other animal statues, much like the Ming tombs. The park is a great place to visit an ancient Chinese artifact of national renown and also have an outing in the woods. You can hike through the woods along various paths. Kids will enjoy the outdoors, where their imaginations will let them become warriors or emporers hunting the enemy in the woods.See more..
Marshall Zhang (1901-2001) is a legendary historical figure in China. It was interesting to visit the large complex of Marshal Zhang's Mansion/ Museum and to be brought back to his era during the visit. Recommended for a visit whilst in Shenyang.See more..
4.5Hetu Alacheng(7 reviews) - An Audience with the Emperor Tuesday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Historic Sites • Ancient Ruins
This was the highlight of my visit to northern China. The historical compound is huge. The buildings and grounds are beautifully preserved and maintained. Our bilingual interpreter was excellent. As the birthplace of the Qing Dynasty, it is an historically very important site. The pageant was wonderful and it consisted of hundreds of well-trained actors and musicians. The costumes were beautiful and the choreography was outstanding. The high point was my private audience with the Emperor!See more..

3.5Anshan Ancient city(4 reviews) - Ancient City Tuesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Historic Sites

3.5Liaoyang Tokyo Mausoleum(2 reviews) - Dongjin Mausoleum - Not open without special arrangement. Tuesday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Historic Sites
Tokyo is a wrong translation. It should be Dongjing, which means eastern capital. To look round have to contact the Cultural Bureau and arrange for someone to come to unlock. Unless you can speak Chinese that is probably impossible. If you can speak Chinese it’s difficult because most people in the nearby office are not inclined to make effort to arrange it. (The local party official tried.) It looks interesting from the outside, but we did not manage to get in as the Cultural Bureau would not come at short notice.See more..
4.5Baoguang Temple(2 reviews) - Erfrischend hübscher Tempelbereich in Dandong Tuesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Historic Sites • Religious Sites
See more..
3.0Liaobin Ancient City(1 review) - Old-looking pagoda with neighboring temple Historic Sites
Were driving around the Shenyang countryside when we decided to check this out after finding it marked as Liaobin Ancient City on TripAdvisor. Turned out to be a fairly old-looking (which is the exception in China) pagoda standing in the middle of nowhere. "Next door" is an active temple inhabited by at least a couple dozen monks - judging by the clothing drying in the sun. The monks were all in the prayer hall chanting away and the shrines were closed up. The temple looked newly renovated and very cheerful. Nice place if you happen to be in the area, though not exactly worth the drive from town.See more..
3.0Anshan Ximu Stone Shed(1 review) - If you love this stuff then go for it Tuesday: 8:00 AM - 9:00 PM Historic Sites
If you enjoy stuff from the neolitic era, go for it, but if not, I don't think it's worth a visit. There is no museum next to it, nor anything else interesting, so it's not worth going if you aren't a big fan of such things. I went there just because my partner comes from this area...See more..
