  4. 5.0 Go Ape Zipline & Adventure Park (270 reviews)
    - This is a "must do" - family, friends, couples, anyone!
Sunday: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM Zipline & Aerial Adventure Parks
Go Ape Zipline & Adventure Park image
We love Go Ape adventures and this one truly lived up to our expectations. The cable and trolley system was SO quick and efficient and easy to use compared to prior Go Ape adventures where the trolley didn't stay attached. This made us feel safe the entire time because it was impossible to not "always be attached". The obstacles were fun and the zip lines were awesome. I loved flying across Lums Pond so many times. The entire staff was really great too. My husband and I were the first group to go through it and we FLEW through the course. We were done in under 2 hours, which included the prep and instructions as the beginning. But when we went last summer with our kids and we weren't the first group, it took us over 3 hours. Time definitely varies. See more..

Glasgow Park is a family park where the entire family can have fun. 6. 4.0 Jungle Jim's (251 reviews)
    - Great weekday activity for the family!
Sunday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Amusement & Theme Parks
    Jungle Jim's image
We brought our two boys here (ages 5 and 6) on a cloudy weekday. It was a wonderful time, despite the fact that the park had to temporarily close a few times due to thunder and lightning (we just used this as an opportunity to take a break and check out the nearby outlets until they re-opened). The park was well-staffed and clean and the lines for the most popular waterslides were short and fast-moving. There were lots of waterslides to chose from and plenty of tubes for the lazy river. The lockers were reasonable priced and the snack bar food was decent. We will definitely return to this park. See more..
  7. 4.0 Lums Pond State Park (203 reviews)
    - Very nice park
    State Parks
    Lums Pond State Park image
This park is a great place for a quick pit stop or a full day of activities. The pond is scenic and peaceful, never crowded, but never empty either. You can’t swim in the pond, but boating and fishing is allowed. You can also rent kayaks or paddle boats. Outside the pond, there are hiking trails, camping and picnic areas, playgrounds for kids, fields for various sports, and even a disc golf course. Perhaps best of all, there’s even an adventure park! It does cost extra to get into, but it’s awesome, so worth it if you have the time/budget to spare. It has zip lines, a sort of modified bungee jump, tree top obstacle courses... It’s just a ton of fun. See more..
  8. 4.5 Battery Park (196 reviews)
    - Peaceful walk by the salty sea
    Parks
    Battery Park image
This is a beautiful walk close to New Castle's historic district. Stopped in New Castle for a leg rest mid-way through a drive not knowing quite what I'd find besides the history of the first state. This is a perfect walk, nicely paved and maintained, just on the water. You can smell the salty air or walk a little further and find shade tree-lined clearings. Even though it is fairly busy, there are moments where you can be all to yourself and it is simply peaceful. Walked for about an hour, then headed to see the rest of the town. See more..

White Clay Creek State Park image
We come here most often approaching from the Delaware side but we also use Pennsylvania as our base. Some trails here span more than one state. Each time we choose a different route and it is always interesting hike. The park is quite extensive and the nature here is lush and beautiful. This time we enjoyed again the Tri-State Trail and Mason Dixon Trails. Tri-state monument is a popular landmark. In Delaware there is a park fee one needs to pay. Out of state it is $8. See more..
  12. 4.0 Viking Amusements and Thunder Lagoon Waterpark (120 reviews)
    - Great Park for Younger Ones
    Amusement & Theme Parks
Viking Amusements and Thunder Lagoon Waterpark image
My 6 & 10 yr old grandsons loved this park. We got the 4-hour pass and they spent all the time. There isn’t a lot for teens/adults-only 2 slides big enough for older kids. There’s a nice lazy river, 3 smaller slides, a tipping bucket/ship, along with a 0-entry pool and splash pad area. Staff was friendly and seemed well staffed with the life guards. It’s a relatively small park, but perfect for the 12 & under crowd. We were there on a Sunday in July and I was surprised it never got crowded; plenty of chairs and shaded area. The park was clean, as well. Appreciated their military discount. See more..
  13. 4.5 Bellevue State Park (95 reviews)
    - Summer tradition continues
    State Parks • Parks
    Bellevue State Park image
A Park For All Seasons Bellevue Hall mansion commands a grand view of this historic estate, and its present form reflects alterations made by William du Pont, Jr. Mr. du Pont surrounded his home with the finest facilities: tennis courts, equestrian stables, gardens, and a picturesque pond, amid woodlands and fields overlooking the Delaware River. The park was acquired by the State of Delaware in 1976. The Delaware Division of Parks and Recreation has retained the historic charm of Bellevue while providing many opportunities for recreation. Walking and jogging are popular activities at any time of the year. A 1-1/8 mile fitness track circles a catch-and-release fishing pond while the nearby exercise trail offers a refreshing workout. Hiking trails allow you to explore other parts of the estate. If you prefer cycling, both paved and unpaved paths lead you on a leisurely tour. A popular spot for picnics, weddings and get-togethers. This park is lovely and has well maintain trails with good signage. We went with a group of adults and children. The parking is $8 for out of state, which seemed a bit high especially since we took 2 cars, but it was still less expensive than visiting other attractions in the area. See more..

  17. 4.5 Rockford Park & Tower (58 reviews)
    - Great Community Space and Dog Park
    Parks
    Rockford Park & Tower image
This park is a great community space. We've been here in the past for community rallies for BLM, outdoor concerts put on by the city, and for the annual Flower Market. This is a great, safe place to walk after work and enjoy the view across the river from along the stone wall at the far end. During the Flower Market and during some Sunday afternoons, they have the tower open to climb. We did so during the Flower Market and it was a fun, classic Wilmington experience. You can see for miles from the top. We also love coming to the dog park here. It's a nice open space and allows the dogs to run but also have their space unlike other parks that are a smaller fenced in area that can sometimes cause aggressive dog behaviors. This place is historical but also continues to serve the community today. Well worth a visit on a nice day, especially a day when the tower is open for climbing. See more..

For an inexpensive entry fee visitors can cool off in the pool and have some fun on the slides . For families there is a section that is shallow and has amusements for the small fry . It does get crowded so going before noon is a plus . So if you want a pool rather than the beach for the day it's a good alternative . See more..

    Alapocas Run State Park image
We took our dog for a hike at Alapocas Run while driving through the area. We parked at the ball fields and hiked the trails through the woods. Beautiful trails with access to a couple small waterfalls and other scenic and historical spots. The blue rock cliffs provide the state's only natural rock-climbing cliff. The Northern Delaware Greenway runs through here as well and its a really nice greenway trail. Overall, this is a great place for a hike if in the Wilmington area. See more..

    Iron Hill Park image
The park itself has multiple items of interest. First, is the only still suviving DuPont School built for Black American Children. It has old desks, a old stove, etc. Iron Hill itself is one of the highest locations in Delaware, and was used during war with England to keep track of what bay the English ships were coming into (Delaware Bay or Chesapeak Bay). It also was used to get Iron Ore. Lots of history in the Park. See more..

    - Tot Playground- Awesome
    Parks
    Grove Park image
Funland is fun but Grove Park is FREE fun! :) And if you're like me, you appreciate being off the beaten path with the little ones- that's relaxing vacation time. Of course we could go to a playground at home but the familiarity of green space and the playground is, I think, comforting to the little ones when on sensory (and sugar) overload. I wish I'd ventured into the visitor center... I still might, but time is running out on our vacation! See more..

  27. 4.5 Holts Landing State Park (20 reviews)
    - New double boat launch
    State Parks
    Holts Landing State Park image
I get an annual DE parks pass and launch my boat from here about 50 times a year. The launch is deep and I can put in my 18 foot boat by myself even at low tide. My only big complaint is relative to some of the ignorant people who frequent the launch. People actually think its a good idea to have their little kids hand crabbing on the active launch when boats are being backed in and out. Not only is that dangerous, it is down right ignorant. It has a hard stand restroom and they put a job johnny by the boat launch in the summer. See more..

    Hullabaloo Amusement Center image
After reading negative reviews, I was pleasantly surprised at how nice and clean Hullabaloo is. I have been looking for a place to take my 2 1/2 year old niece to play this winter and I have found it. It is not a very big place which is perfect if you have younger children. We stayed for over 2 hours, so well worth the $8. My only complaint is that there was no supervision for the older children who were running over-top the little ones. We will be going back. 33. 4.0 Assawoman Canal (14 reviews)
    - Beautiful and Well Maintained Trail - Bike & Dog Friendly!
Spent < 1 hour State Parks • Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Assawoman Canal image
Found this location by accident, but it was worth it. The trail is close to 1-mile long and it is well maintained. My wife had total knee replacement at the beginning of July and she was able to walk the segment from the parking lot to Central Avenue with no problem. The trail is bike and dog friendly. There's a paid parking lot at the trail head - I think it was very expensive, but there is a very well maintained ramp where you can launch your kayak. Parking/use fees are paid on the honor system - envelopes and a pay station is available. I wish there was a way to pay using ParkMobile or some other electronic method because I barely had enough cash on me to pay the $10 fee. The path runs along the canal and it's very peaceful. Note that there are properties along the path. There are no trash receptacles, so make sure you have a way to pack your trash with you. This is a good activity for all ages and we plan to walk the other tails that are part of the Delaware Park system. See more..
  34. 3.5 Fort DuPont State Park (14 reviews)

    Fort DuPont State Park image
Very cool place for what it is - not very big and an easy walk. Great location on the river. The batteries were pretty cool - but definitely lacking information. Signs about what happened there and what it looked like would have been nice. The buildings riding to it were pretty neat and again some more signs with history of them would have been great. The bugs were definitely annoying - but that’s nature. They could have kept the port a John a lot cleaner. See more..

    Stockley Street Park image
We took the kids here to be able to run around & stretch their legs. They had a great time at the Silver Lake Tot Lot (in Stockley Street Park). They have 4 baby swings, 2 big kid swings, a small rock climbing wall, at least 4 slides, 2 neat turtle teeter totter type toys and a climbing rope. There are several picnic tables and benches on location. There are tons of shade trees here, which are great for a hot summer day. There was also a water drinking fountain in this park! There is a small foot bridge that crosses Silver Lake and enters the park. From this foot bridge you can see tons of geese & red ear slider turtles. You could bring some cracked corn for the ducks & geese. There were also tons of squirrels running around & playing too. The kids LOVED the wildlife here. Overall, a really nice park. Only downside is that there is no parking lot for this park. So you have to park on the street, which requires a parking permit during the summer season until 5pm. See more..

Did not stay to explore any further since school is NOT out of session yet. Website says there is a public pool behind the school with daily rates $3 or you can buy a membership. See more..

This is a nice park to walk in. The area I was in had two bridges crossing the creek, making it possible to walk a complete loop. The views of the creek and lake from these bridges is fantastic. The one bridge however is very narrow and you have to move to the side if someone comes. There's grills for picnics in in a playground too. Just a word of caution, a lot of people fish in the creek, including from the bridges. Make sure to keep alert when they cast their line. See more..

On Tuesday evenings for a number of years now Stango Park, courtesy of the City of Lewes, WSFS bank, and the Delaware Division of the Arts bursts out in music and song. The summer concert series has twelve toe tapping concerts free to the public to enjoy and wow are they a lot of fun for young and old. If the weather is bad they move the concert to the Cape Henlopen High School theatre at 1250 Kings Highway down the road.
