The church itself was closed that day but don't miss the opportunity to walk through the historical cemetery. It gives a glimpse into the town's past with all the historical families buried here. Take the time to walk through the family plots and understand who the prominent people in town were in the 1800 and 1900's.See more..
4.5St. Edmond's Catholic Church(24 reviews) - HOMILIES GREAT START TO THE DAY @ 8:30 am Saturday: 8:30 AM - 3:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Churches & Cathedrals
Once I discovered St. Edmond's, I attended daily Mass until the end of my stay at 8:30 a.m. The various priests all gave scripturally on-point, erudite homilies that were relevant to the day. I truly enjoyed going to Mass on vacation. I availed myself of confession on Saturday after the Mass, and the great talk and unusual yet perfect penance were great. See more..
I was at Old Christ Church, Laurel two days ago for a special concert. There is not a lot to see, on one level: just the church, in a beautiful setting on the shores of Chipmans Pond. The church was built in 1771, and has never been plumbed or electrified. Delaware governor Nathaniel Mitchell, Revolutionary War veteran, is buried in the little graveyard. Inside, the acoustics for a concert or a sermon are wonderful. Also see the three story pulpit, the balcony which contains exhibits about the history of Old Christ Church, and the box pews. Open for Sunday services, first Sundays of the months June through September. Also, special holiday services, and OCC is available for weddings. http://www.dioceseofdelaware.net/old-christ-church-laurel/See more..
4.5St. Elizabeth Ann Seton(4 reviews) - Inspiring late 20th century architecture Spent 1-2 hours Churches & Cathedrals
Usually, when I look for churches and cathedrals to visit, I think first about those that are a century or two old. In this case, the parish of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Bear, Delaware, was not even organized until 1978, and the actual church was not completed and consecrated intelligence 1998. Our recent visit to Emmitsburg, Maryland, to see the Basilica and other history associated with St. Elizabeth Ann Seton peaked my curiosity. The church is simple but majestic in its upward curving design. I was fortunate that the church was open and busy on this Saturday, so I could witness firsthand the huge, round, and airy sanctuary where light from clear upper story and stained-glass windows cast beautiful reflections. I talked to the priest who explained that the parish draws on members who come from all over the world, creating a global community right in Delaware. This church addresses oth spiritual as well as artistic sensibilities. See more..
4.0Lifehouse Church(2 reviews) - Community Block Party at the Church Saturday: Churches & Cathedrals
We stopped by the LifeHouse Church one day since they were hosting the MOT Community Block Party event. Once on location we parked in the HUGE paved parking lot. We then walked over towards the festivities. Here they had several kids games/activities set up in addition to FREE food tents. Kids each got a Carnival Games card which consisted of 6 separate games. Kids went around to each game: Duck Pond, Ring Toss, Ball Toss, Lawn Bowiling, Hole in One (golf) and Knock'em Down. Here the game operators recorded their scores. Once they completed the activities, they took their game cards up to the prize tent. Here they could use the points that they WON playing the games to trade in for FREE prizes. Kids had so much fun doing these simple "backyard" games. Staff were all friendly and encouraging the kids to have a good time. The guy at the Lawn Bowling was funny and just awesome with the kids! After playing the games and collecting their prizes, kids wanted to visit the hair styling tent. Here the kids could choose various temporary hair color/glitters and the "stylists" would do their hair for them. The volunteer stylists were mostly kids in their tweens, which seemed to work out well. After getting some pink and glitter added to our hair, we decided to head on over to the inflatables area. Here they had around 3 inflatable bounce houses/slides set up. Kids had fun bouncing in them. After bouncing and sliding, we tried to visit the carnival foods tent, but it was SOLD OUT of cotton candy, popcorn and sno cones. We did stop by the food tent as well where we were given FREE hot dogs, bottled water and bagged chips. Overall, we enjoyed the Community Block Party event hosted by LifeHouse Church. Kids had lots of fun playing the games, bouncing on the inflatables and filling their bellies! I look forward to this event next year.See more..
We went to Trinity Community Church's Family Fest this past fall and had a great time! They had a trunk or treat for the kids plus inflatables, a corn maze, tractor pulled hayrides, LOTS of carnival style games with candy prizes, a bull ride and FREE food (hot dogs, cotton candy, popcorn). They even has characters roaming around for the kids to interact with and take pictures. I saw Boss Baby, Minnie Mouse, Marshall from Paw Patrol, Mrs. Claus and Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon. In addition to all of this they had a prize giveaway where you could win substantial prizes like bicycles IF you found a golden ticket in your registration/entry bag. The entire event was FREE ON Halloween day. I would definitely return for this event sponsored by TCC again in the future. It was a great community event for families with children. It was well organized and FUN.See more..
3.5The Town Church(2 reviews) - Trunk or Treat Saturday: Churches & Cathedrals
We went to "The Town" for a trunk or treat event they were hosting in their parking lot. Event was crowded and parking was very limited. There were several cars offering treats for the kids in addition to inflatables, a small petting zoo and several kids characters on location too. No restrooms that I could find for the public. I thought it was just OK. I probably would not attend this particular event again in the future though as it was way too crowded for what was offered.See more..
4.0Middletown Baptist Church(2 reviews) - Away in a Manger Drive-Thru Living Nativity Scene Saturday: Churches & Cathedrals
We went to this church for the Away in a Manger Drive-Thru Living Nativity event. It was offered one evening in December 6-8pm. We drove down and pulled right into the drive leading to the church. We were told to tune our car radio to the corresponding radio station. The trees lining the drive were lit with Christmas lights and had ropes connecting the trees. As we rounded the bend we spotted the living nativity scene. Here they had sheep, donkey, goats, a horse and a pony. They also had a small children's choir singing Christmas carols as we approached. The manger was complete with the wise men, Mary, Joseph & some shepherds. Baby Jesus was a doll, but that was probably a good idea since it was so cold that night! At the end of the living nativity were a couple of children dressed as angels. As we exited the nativity, we were handed a gift bag for the car. Gift bag contained an informational pamphlet on the church, A special note of thanks, a few Hershey kisses, 4 mini candy canes and a Ghirardelli chocolate square. Overall, we enjoyed this living nativity scene. It was well done and well lit. I would attend this event if it was offered again in the future. It was a nice way to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas in a social distanced atmosphere & from the comfort of your own car! We enjoyed it so much that we drove through a second time! I would recommend.See more..

5.0Prince George's Chapel(1 review) - Simple frame chapel with centuries of history Churches & Cathedrals
The simple frame building of Prince George’s Chapel could easily be overlooked when passing through Dagsboro, but one would not want to miss an important part of area history. The chapel became part of the Anglican and later Episcopalian community over 360 years ago. The building with a well kept cemetery is located right on Route 26 in the town. The State of Delaware now owns the property and together with the Episcopal Diocese, maintains it like a museum. The chapel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The gravestone of General John Dagworthy, a Revolutionary War officer who settled in the area, is quite prominent.See more..
5.0Christ Episcopal Church(1 review) - Stately church in historic district Spent < 1 hour Churches & Cathedrals
For over 180 years, Christ Episcopal parish and Church has been a main feature along the wide avenues of Delaware City, and now is part of the 250+ structures in the nationally registered historic district. The distinctive white building is sitting on a large lot contrasts with the brick and wood Victorian homes in the area. One of those brick homes, directly behind the church, is the rectory. The historic plaque says the church was designed based on the Floating Church of the Redeemer in Philadelphia, which was constructed of wood in the Rural Gothic style. It's interesting that one building can not only represent the history of the town but of the Episcopal Church in this maritime region.See more..

We stopped by Christ the Cornerstone on Father's Day since they were hosting a FREE classic car show along with several activities for the kids. It was a really nice morning spent. They had a really great turn out for the car show. In addition to the car show, they had a nice photo-op area set up inside the church where Dad could take his photo with the kids and some props. They had free soft pretzels, free sodas/water, free bagged chips, etc. They also had a bounce house for the kids to play in. They even had a lion mascot show up to entertain the kids. It was a really nice free event. Staff/volunteers were all welcoming and friendly. Overall, we enjoyed our visit with Christ the Cornerstone church for the Father's Day Car Show. I look forward to next year's event!See more..
