4.5Bethany Beach Boardwalk(481 reviews) - Don't expect Ocean City's Boardwalk. It's a wholly different vibe Saturday: 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM Hiking Trails
The free weekend concerts charge the area with excitement and sound against a sunset backdrop. They pack people in with great bands who listen to great free music while eating ice cream cones at sunset. Believe me, it's as terrible as it sounds... I fish right off the boardwalk in the mornings and watch the pelicans fly in formation as dolphins cruise the shoreline. Once I've assured myself that there are no fish in the ocean, I pack up, stopping at the donut shop right there for fresh, made to order AMAZING donuts, then head back to the rental and tell lies about all the fish I caught. It really is the hub of our vactions down here...small, but packed with hidden gems. It isn't Ocean City, and thankfully, at least to me, doesn't want to be eitherSee more..
This area is a treasure w/ miles of easy walking along the Christina River w/ plenty of nature to enjoy. Hotels, restaurants, & other cultural experiences are readily available. Several large hotels make it easy to stay along the river & the Amtrak station allows for easy travel from distant parts.See more..
4.5Valley Garden Park(7 reviews) - Almost Unbelievable. Saturday: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Hiking Trails
Secluded park off Rt. 82 north of Greenville. Medium sized parking lot that was only partly full on a Sunday afternoon. A walk from the parking lot goes into woods then onto an overlook into the valley. Steep steps go down to a gorgeous setting. Plenty of benches along a small meandering creek amidst large lawn areas. Extremely well maintained. The trees are very large indicating that the park has been there a long time. One of the trees appeared to be a California redwood. Most of the visitors were strolling couples or they were just sitting enjoying the view. Lots of dog walkers, I would give it a 6 star if I could.See more..
5.0Port Penn Wetlands Trail(1 review) - Beautiful contrasting view between marsh, water, and sky Spent 1-2 hours Hiking Trails
Entrance to the Port Penn Wetlands Trail is located on the Delaware City Road (Route 9) heading north. There is limited parking at the entrance, just a few roadside spaces. In fact, people are encouraged to park at the nearby Interpretive (Historical) Center. My visit was on a very chilly day so wildlife were not in view, but on a sunny day this time of year (winter) one enjoys a great contrasting view between marsh, water, and sky.See more..
