    - Nice clean beach town

    Bethany Beach image
Very nice clean, dog and family friendly but small. Parking was meters or kiosk from 10 am to 11 pm every day. Best bet was to go to the state park beaches with fixed 10.00/ car per day. We went to several. Also not enough restaurants in the area. They were overwhelmed and were not even able to offer take out. See more..
  4. 4.5 Dewey Beach (551 reviews)
    - Really Empty
    Beaches
    Dewey Beach image
Sandwiched between the Atlantic Ocean and Rehoboth Bay, this quaint town is popular with the younger crowd and home to numerous excellent bars and brewpubs with live music and great food. In summer, look forward to activities like outdoor movie screenings and community bonfires in addition to jetski rentals and guided kayak excursions. The surf tends to be rough, but the beach is dog-friendly, and the small-town charm and relaxed vibe on offer during the quieter seasons draws couples and families from wide and far. The busier Rehoboth Beach is only a stone’s throw away. – Tripadvisor See more..
  5. 4.5 Lewes Beach (537 reviews)
    - Nice beach for families
    Beaches
    Lewes Beach image
Stopped by the beach the other day for our first trip of the 2021 season since it was a warm early May day. Metered parking started May 1st, so we had to pay the centralized parking meter at a rate of $2 per hour. You can access parking via the Park Mobile app. The beach and parking lot were nearly empty, so we were able to easily secure parking and a beach blanket spot near the water. On this day we enjoyed building sand castles, digging in the sand, searching for sea shells, watching the seagulls and watching the ferry go in & out of port. We didn't see much live wildlife this visit other than the seagulls. We found lots of dead calico crabs, some dead horseshoe crabs and even a dead fish. Not sure what that was all about because we usually don't see a bunch of dead sea life. We did not actually swim in the water on this day though. It was a little early in the season to actually get into the water although we did dip out toes in the water and it was chilly. Lifeguards were not on duty yet since they don't start until around Memorial Day weekend. However, the beach restrooms were already open and the outdoor sprinkler poles were on for rinsing off your feet/body. Overall, we enjoyed our first trip to Lewes Beach for the season. This is a great beach for families with small kids. The sand is generally soft although you can still get lucky and find little gems like beach pebbles and seashells. There are little to no waves, so great for young kids that are afraid of big waves and getting knocked down. We enjoy this beach. There are 2 separate parking lots and 2 separate bath/restrooms. One of the parking lots has a snack shack and is adjacent to a DQ should you find yourself hungry while on the beach! See more..

  7. 3.5 Pickering Beach (56 reviews)
    - A typical bay beach
    Beaches
    Pickering Beach image
Pickering beach is a typical Delaware beach. I see a lot of bad reviews . It's really not fair to compare a bay beach to a Oceanside beach. Pickering has small to non existent waves. Bay beaches are more for boating, kayaking, fishing and relaxing.swimming is iffy. Some days it's clean and other days it's murky. When the wind comes from the East there's no flys. When it comes from the East it blows in flys and mosquitoes. This I noticed is typical of all Delaware bay beaches. See more..
  8. 4.0 Slaughter Beach (51 reviews)
    - A beautiful, natural, peaceful place
    Beaches
    Slaughter Beach image
If you want nature, fresh air, and the OCEAN, this is the beach for you. It is not the place where you will find crowds, restaurants, boardwalks, or stores. It is peaceful and country like, and that is what we were seeking. We had a wonderful day there in July 2020. Families socially distanced, and the restrooms were clean with only one person when I went in, and she was wearing a mask. There is a pavilion with picnic tables also. Wear water shoes, as the sand is very rocky. There were a lot of horseshoe crabs washed up on the shore, so if you have young children, it is a good idea to do some educating about them beforehand, so they won't be frightened. There is a rocky ridge at the shore line, and it is muddy as the tide goes out. Not a problem, but do need the water shoes. We brought a picnic and had a wonderful time. See more..
  9. 4.0 Woodland Beach (45 reviews)
    - Birdwatching
    Beaches
    Woodland Beach image
Depending upon the time of day and time of year you go, birdwatching might be of interest. There is a spacious parking lot, Port-a-potties, fishing pier, etc. On the day I visited, many herring gulls were within the vicinity. This is a nice place to stop and enjoy the quiet and water. 10. 3.5 Bowers Beach (35 reviews)
    - Alternative beach near Magnolia and S Dover
    Beaches
    Bowers Beach image
I layed on the beach at Bowers Beach several times this past summer. It is an alternative on the bay to going all the way to Lewes or Rehoboth. It is not the nice sandy beach and you have to share the beach with fishermen but it is an alternative I use because it is only 15 minutes from home. There are no toilet facilities. There is a restaurant open during the summer and there is a place to drop your boat. See more..
  11. 4.0 Deauville Beach (19 reviews)
    - Lovely beach!
Saturday: 7:00 AM - 8:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours Beaches
    Deauville Beach image
Beautiful clean and less crowded beach. We went on Labor day and to our surprise it was less crowded. This is not the first time we been here but first holiday and it was nice to see that it wasn’t packed. The boardwalk is 6 min away so we were at the beach for a few hours then it was off to the boardwalk. Kids had a blast and saw a few dolphins. Love this place! See more..
  12. 4.5 Broadkill Beach (16 reviews)
    - Broadkill Resort at Broadkill Beach
    Beaches
    Broadkill Beach image
We have been to Broadkill Resort several times over the past few years and, no matter the season, the property is cozy and relaxing and just feels good. I suppose hygge is the word for it. The house is spacious yet there is a sense of privacy in its layout. There is a fireplace in the living room for cool evenings and in the winter as well as window air conditioning units in those upstairs bedrooms for summer. The walk to the beach is short and along an established path over the dunes. We have yet to see the beach crowded, even in the midst of summer. So many wonderful details (old-fashioned gas stove and metal tea kettle, yoga mats in every room, puzzles and games and hundreds of books and audiobooks available for use) make this a destination we return to time after time. A true retreat. See more..

  14. 3.5 Augustine Beach (3 reviews)
    - Quiet roadside recreation area
    Beaches
    Augustine Beach image
The parking lot is huge compared to the beach, but the quiet waters offer a peaceful setting overlooking the river/Bay. While today was too cold for swimming, hiking, or picnics, those facilities await warmer weather. Enjoyed watching someone bring his dog for a little escape, and the dog had fun running up and down the sand. Today, seagulls and ducks provided the "wildlife" experience. This is a valuable community respurce. See more..
  15. 2.5 Kitts Hummock Beach (2 reviews)
    - Nice beach for a walk
    Spent < 1 hour Beaches
This is NOT a swimming beach. There is very limited parking. In spring and early summer, there will be lots of horseshoe crabs, both living and dead. We went in the fall, and enjoyed a lovely walk. See more..
  16. 2.0 Deemers Beach (1 review)
    - Pebbly Beach
    Beaches
    Deemers Beach image
Stopped at this beach to check it out while in downtown Old New Castle. You can reach this small strip of beach by walking the trail along the wharf that passes through Battery Park OR by parking at the small access lot off of River Rd (Route 9) near Dobbinsville Park. The small access lot is NOT marked. It is an unpaved road that opens into a dirt parking lot. Here you walk up a small incline to arrived at the paved walking path. Across the path you will see lots of LARGE rocks lining the path and edge of a small cliff that overhangs the beach. There is no actual path leading down to the beach. There is NO EASY access to the beach. You have to climb down rocks to reach the beach. People have sort of made a makeshift set of stairs out of some of the smaller rocks. Once down onto the beach, you will find that it is a very pebbly beach. There are some small sections of sand, but it literally is a bunch of sea pebbles. We found lots of drift wood washed up along the rocks that line the cliff. Also, we found lots of trash and discarded belongings such as broken beach chairs. We did find a good amount of broken glass along the waters edge and throughout the small beach. We also, came across 2 dead fish. The smell was not pleasant. Across the water you get a distant view of the Nuclear Power Plant in NJ. On the plus side we did find several clam shells washed up on the shore. Plus it was free to visit. Overall, this is not a very desirable beach for swimming or wading. I did NOT see any signs indicating whether people could/should swim here or NOT. I also did not see any signs regarding fishing or crabbing. There was NO sign for the beach even, just an unmarked parking lot. There are no restrooms at the beach. There were 2 large trash cans at the parking lot entrance to the beach. Access to the water is not user friendly. See more..
