Peaceful walk by the salty sea
This is a beautiful walk close to New Castle's historic district. Stopped in New Castle for a leg rest mid-way through a drive not knowing quite what I'd find besides the history of the first state. This is a perfect walk, nicely paved and maintained, just on the water. You can smell the salty air or walk a little further and find shade tree-lined clearings. Even though it is fairly busy, there are moments where you can be all to yourself and it is simply peaceful. Walked for about an hour, then headed to see the rest of the town.

Stroll along the waterfront
We went to this park one night for the Separation Day celebration and fireworks. We were pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. It wasn't overly crowded and the event was enjoyable. We enjoyed it so much that we decided to return again during the daytime to actually enjoy the park. Here there is a walking path along the water in addition to lots of grassy space, a pier at the wharf and a small kids playground. There was a tennis court behind the park as well. There was plenty of FREE parking to be found so that was a plus. Kids enjoyed watching the squirrels in the park and the birds over the water. However, the beachy areas are rocky, smelly and dirty. We saw several dead fish along the waters edge. Overall, we enjoyed our visits with Battery Park. It is a nice place to take a stroll, have a picnic in the park and venture into the adjacent historic district (for some ice cream and history).

Clean Well Maintained Free Park in New Castle DE on the Water
At the foot of downtown historic New Castle is Battery Park. A nice stroll along the water and plenty of photo ops if you enjoy taking pictures. It was brisk and windy on our October visit. We found it at the foot of town that we had decided to walk through and enjoy the Federalist Architecture. Recommended.
