4.5Moscow Metro(17.1k reviews) - Highly efficient Underground art galleries from Stalin era Architectural Buildings • Public Transportation Systems
The Moscow Metro, in addition to being remarkably efficient and frequent (departures every 2-3 minutes at most main stations, you just have to be aware of the closing times after midnight) and economical (we purchased troika cards and recharged as necessary) also contains a number of wonderful stations filled with Stalin era art and sculptures and architecture. It is easy to do your own on line research to see which stations you would like to see and then either spend a few hours going from one to the next (in which case it is exceptionally cheap as you are only charged a single fare if you do not exit the system), or just add in detours to the stations during your other travels. Even at relatively busy times we found that if we hung around for a few minutes we could get an opportunity for photos with not many people or you could choose to include the large crowds in the picture. The very long escalators at some stations are also a feature in themselves.See more..

4.5Museum of Wooden Architecture(1.149 reviews) - Wooden fairy tale Sunday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums • Architectural Buildings • Churches & Cathedrals
On the place of the former monastery of St Demetrius one can find another marvel of traditional Russian architecture – an open-air Museum of Wooden Architecture. Several churches, houses, and other authentic 18th and 19th-century wooden buildings were brought here from all over the Vladimir region in the 1960–1970s. The man-made beauty of the monuments of folk architecture merged wonderfully with the landscape of centuries-old Suzdal. The Church of the Transfiguration (1756) seems to be a town cut in wood, with its parts of different sizes and shapes ingeniously connected by the carpenters who built the entire church without metal nails. The recently reconstructed Church of the Resurrection (1776) belongs to the type of “boat-shaped” churches, when all parts of the building stretch along one axis. The ship (bark, or boat) is an ancient Christian symbol comparing the Church to the Noah’s Ark. The object is under the operational management of the Vladimir-Suzdal Museum-Reserve.See more..

The imposing architectural ensemble of the Monastery of the Saviour and St Euthymius “stands out vividly like a city” on a high steep bank of the Kamenka river. Prince Boris – of Suzdal and Nizhni Novgorod – founded it in 1352. St Euthymius, an associate of St Sergius of Radonezh, became the monastery's first hegumen. In 1642, Prince Dmitri Pozharsky, a Russian national hero, was buried here. The object is under the operational management of the Vladimir-Suzdal Museum-Reserve.See more..
4.5Vodonapornaya Bashnya(609 reviews) - Nice museum Sunday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Speciality Museums • Architectural Buildings • History Museums
It is a monument of industrial architecture of the early 20th century. The necessity to build a water tower appeared in the 1860s when the Vladimir running water system was constructed. According to the first project the water tower was to be placed inside the former church above the Golden Gate. This project was fortunately not realized. Later a wooden water tower was built on the Kozlov Val (medieval rampart). In 1912 the building was completely reconstructed according to the project of architect Sergei Zharov. The building is a three-tiered structure made of red brick in the Pseudo-Russian style. Windows serve as a decoration, among them there are double ones, of different height and shape in each tier. The object is under the operational management of the Vladimir-Suzdal Museum-Reserve.See more..

4.5Golden Gate(507 reviews) - Important site Sunday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings • History Museums
In the middle of the XII century, when the Vladimir-Suzdal Principality was ruled by the son of Yuri Dolgoruky Andrey Bogolyubsky, the Golden gate served as the main entrance, was a defensive structure and a triumphal arch. Covered with sheets of gilded copper, shining brightly in the sun, the gates amazed the imagination of contemporaries. In those days the city was surrounded by an extended shaft with five travel gates. The Golden gate is the only one that has survived to the present day. They were built in 1164 by princely masters in the technique of half-foot masonry, widely spread in Vladimir-Suzdal architecture. An archway offset by a strong semicircular arch. The building is built in strict proportions, a special grandeur it gives a small elegant gate Rizpolozhenskaya Church. In the exhibition you can see samples of small arms, created in the XX century by the legendary designers-gunsmiths Kovrov — Vasily Degtyarev, Sergei Simonov, Georgy Shpagin and others.See more..

4.5The Golden Gate(261 reviews) - beautiful place Sunday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Military Museums • Architectural Buildings
Built by the decree of Prince Andrei Bogolyubsky, it was during his reign that the heyday of white stone architecture and the rise of Vladimir occurred. "I will renew this city with the metropolitan, may this city be a great reign and the head of all." Kiev, the "mother of Russian cities", served as a model for Vladimir's table. The main entrance to Vladimir, as in the "city of Yaroslav", was the Golden Gate built in 1158-1164 with the gate church and the Virgin's robe. Similar buildings existed in different years in major Orthodox cities - Jerusalem, Kiev and Constantinople. And until today they have been preserved only in Vladimir. The building is under the operational management of the Vladimir-Suzdal Museum-Reserve.See more..

5.0Skornyakovo-Arkhangelskoye(16 reviews) - Жемчужина Липецкой области Sunday: 9:00 AM - 11:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings
See more..

4.5Saburovo Fortress(13 reviews) - Сабуровская крепость Spent 2-3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • Castles
See more..
