4.5Monument to Bear(572 reviews) - That drunk guy knew what he was talking about Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
September 12, 2009 in Yaroslavl, a monument was solemnly bear, but not simple, but as a symbol of the city. The monument was erected specially for the year to the milestone anniversary (1000 years old town - the legend Yaroslavl was founded by Yaroslav the Wise in 1010). In Yaroslavl, there are other sites that involve the bear, but if there's portrayed just the bears, there is the sculptor was given the task to bear was ferocious as possible. According to historical chronicles known that Yaroslavl was built on the site of a pagan settlement > According to legend, at the time of the attack on the village, came to the aid of the Gentiles bear (or rather bear) and Yaroslav the Wise personally killed the bear, thus making it clear that none of the gods and their assistants will not save the village. After that the village board adopted the Yaroslav the Wise, a settlement on the site of a fortress was built. It was only in 1777, when Yaroslavl was founded viceroyalty, the bear came out of the legends in the arms of the city. To achieve maximum effect from the monument to the organizers recorded the bear's roar, and now from 9:00 to 21:00 of the monument to hear angry, I can even say a terrible roar of a bear. Near the monument is a plaque, a warning about this. Although it is not the first pillar, which I meet with sound, but that was an awesome sound, it is the first time. Monument in Tomsk Fortunately, there seems to be something he is also singing a certain phrase or loses, I do not remember. And monuments mobile phones seem to announce the time and show SMSes. In general, the lack of wonders, but the roar I like best, such as hard and viciously, and without the languid sweetness. The monument was erected next to the museum-reserve is at the intersection of Pervomayskaya and Nakhimson. But the bear's roar clearly audible in all areas of the Epiphany, so that when you're in Yaroslavl, do not miss it.See more..

4.0Ostrovsky's Pavilion(349 reviews) - Paying for your sins is more important than keeping culture alive Points of Interest & Landmarks
I had a weak heart to take a picture of the falling into pieces Ostrovsky's lookout point, which is fenced and forgotten, especially with this reconstruction in the back. A monastery destroyed in the 1920ies by the Soviets is now being rebuilt to serve a small group of the Russian society considering there are a lot of people of other confessions and atheists while their common cultural bond aka a famous Russian writer is being neglected. Sad Russian reality. See more..

This church was ordered built by Peter the Great 100 years after the 1591 death of Tsarevitch Dmitri, youngest son of Ivan the Terrible. He and his mother were exiled to the Uglich kremlin and kept in captivity in the only surviving original kremlin building (Prince's Palace). It is believed the young Dmitri was murdered on Boris Godunov's orders. An investigation ruled that Dmitri had an epileptic seizure and "fell" on a knife, which slit his throat. 4.5Ples Embankment(259 reviews) - Embankment Points of Interest & Landmarks
At the end of September the embankment is empty. There are many benches where you can sit with a cup of coffee and enjoy the view on Volga. In a starlight silence wooden boats hide in bushes, stone pavement follows the river stream and falling leaves capture attention. It's a very peaceful place. We walked there at 7pm and sat on a small dock meditating while a full moon was rising.See more..

5.0Vysotsky Monastery(188 reviews) - A small but very beautiful monastery Saturday: 6:00 AM - 7:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Religious Sites
Serpukhov Vysotsky monastery was founded in 1374 by St. Sergius of Radonezh at the request of Serpukhov specific Prince Vladimir the Brave. The monastery served as an important spiritual center of medieval Russia and a powerful fortress at the southern turn of the Moscow Principality. The fate of the Holy monastery is closely connected with the fate of Russia - it was besieged and ravaged by enemies, also there were times of prosperity and desolation. At the beginning of the twentieth century, due to contemporaries' opinions, Vysotsky monastery was one of the most comfortable abodes of the Fatherland. With the advent of Soviet power in 1918 of the monastery went under the provincial concentration camp. In 1928 Vysotsky monastery was finally closed. For decades, the ancient and once glorious abode was dilapidated and destroyed. In 1991 Vysotsky monastery was returned to the Orthodox Church, the revival of the ancient monastery began again.See more..
We climbed this bell tower in a snow storm in January 2019 and it just added to the magic and excitement of visiting this historic town. The climb was precarious with the wind blowing and ice on the steps but once at the top the view of the snow on the sites below was magic. The bells were also worth seeing and the memory of this day will remain with me for a long time.See more..

Whilst awaiting the arrival of our Moscow train this memorial made up of an armoured train was interesting to walk around. It consists of steam locomotive sheathed in armour, a couple of anti aircraft weapons to protect the train, and an armoured troop carriage (I assumed). It is definitely worth a look, as are the statues dedicated to military personnel that are dotted around the front of the station, near the taxi rank. Near this armoured train, on the same platform, is a small booth selling applicable souvenirs depicting the train, and Tula's military role in WW2.See more..

5.0Borovsk Paintings(101 reviews) - Original singularity Points of Interest & Landmarks
You can relate to the creative manner by a local artistand to assess the fruits of his imagination, depicted on the walls of houses in Borovsk, in different ways. For example, I can not enroll yourself in the fans of his graffiti. As far as I know, there are some residents with similar mixed attitude. As representatives of the city administration, which is trying to place the activity of the artist in any legal framework. However, it is impossible not to admit that this street art unexpected in a provincial town makes the appearance of Borovsk original and not comparable. It is a pity that between the artist and the city authorities there is misunderstanding and conflict. And what he used for his graffiti are cheap and short-living paints, that's why they are deteriorating and losing the clarity and purity.See more..

4.5Monument to Michail of Tver(82 reviews) - Saint or sinner? Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
This monumental equestrian statue, mounted on a large white pedestal in a spacious square in the city, does not have the sense of energy and motion so evident in that of Yurih Dolgoruky in Moscow’s Tverskaya Square, but given the density of traffic surrounding the latter, its peaceful location make it much safer to walk around and take a good look. A nephew of the great Alexander Nevsky, he ruled as Prince of Tver for a decade or so, antagonizing first Novgorod, then the Orthodox Church, and finally the Great Kahn of the Golden Horde (Tartars) who appointed him in the first place. He had his head chopped off by the Tartars that, in those days, was reason enough for Sainthood, and the Church -------- despite past quarrels ----- canonized him as St. Mikhail of Tver. Of course, none of this is evident from the horse or its rider, but at least it makes a good story for tour guides to relate. See more..
