    Pure Upper Class GUM
GUM was elaborately decorated and lit up for the New Year 2020 and Russian Christmas celebrations. It is best described as a shopping mall for the expensive brand names to showcase their brand names and their expensive goods. The items on show are not priced and it is presumed that if you need to know the price then you cannot afford it. We sought refuge from the cold outside in GUM and used their toilet facilities and warmed ourselves up before venturing out into the cold of Red Square. Using the toilet costs a mere 50 rubies for which you got Immaculately clean and warm facilities. Everywhere we went in Moscow was immaculately clean and not even a cigarette butt to be seen on the streets. The Russian people demonstrate a pride in their country and do not litter the streets. A lesson for us.

    Beautiful and expensive
GUM translates as Main Universal Store and was the most desirable store to visit in the Soviet Russia. The building itself is very historic and perfectly matches the surroundings such as the Red Square and St Basil Cathedral. Inside it’s just a shopping mall, beautiful interiors, but only very expensive brands sell there, so more for tourists than for locals.
