The Leistikow Strasse memorial commemorates the former Soviet military counterintelligence central remand prison that was once located here. There are few historical prisons so authentically preserved. While the mass cells and facilities in the upper floors reveal the conditions in the 1970s, the primitive basement cells with their crude wooden benches testify to the privations endured by prisoners well into the 1950s. Numerous inscriptions carved into the walls by detainees from that time speak of isolation and desperation as well as resilience. The permanent exhibition is illustrated with photographs, endowed with historical artefacts and equipped with media stations that reveal the prison’s story within the wider drama of the Cold War. The Dokumentationszentrum Alltag der DDR (now called the Museum Utopie und Alltag) is an excellent museum. Both the temporary and permanent exhibitions are really informative and the text accompanying the exhibitions is nuanced and detailed. The exhibition team has done an excellent job of placing Eisenhüttenstadt in its national and international contexts by pointing to how the development of the city can be understood alongside developments in the East and West during the same period. The text detailing life in the GDR is similarly nuanced and does a good job at putting a spotlight on state, local and individual experiences - which were by no means homogenous. Tip: be sure to go to the Tourist Information office as well. They have excellent free leaflets with self-guided walking tours of the city. I found this old glassmaking village by driving around. I was simply driving around with my mom that day, then saw a sign giving directions to Museumsdorf Glashutte. Knowing little German, I knew it meant museum, but had no clue what to expect. Walked through the little village, visited the stores and locals making glass art. For eastern Canadians, it's like Upper Canada Village, focusing on glass making. People were more than friendly. It was a pleasant walk around town. All in all, I am extremely great full to have found this peaceful lovely "old timey" village. The scenery is wonderful. Anyone in that area of Germany, should take a day and visit this hidden gem in the forest.See more..
Friends in the area brought us to this out of the way museum. While you can understand quite a lot just from the display and a few words of German, our friends did much translating. 3 D displays were well done, although the playmobile figure in one castle was a bit out of place. The museum is housed in two garrison huts in the centre of historic town of Zossen. The first hut contains material relating to Germany in WWII - in particular tank warfare. Panzer Regiments 5 & 6 were based in Wünsdorf and much of the collection is related to these units. There are extensive archives including some very interesting photos. Artefacts associated with figures such as Guderian and Rommel feature heavily. The collection also includes material relating to Barbarossa and the North Africa campaign. The second hut is reserved for Soviet exhibits. Again, there are many interesting photographs and documents mostly relating to the 16th Air Force which was Zossen based until the early 1990s. The collection includes some excellent maps and a lot of material relating to the everyday life of Soviet soldiers during the Cold War.See more..

Man erfährt viel über die Wichtigkeit der Moore und warum man beim Kauf von Blumenerde gut aufpassen sollte. Dem Besucher wird zudem erklärt, was den Grumsiner Buchenwald so besonders macht. Das angeschlossene Restaurant haben wir zwar nicht getestet, die Karte sah aber vielversprechend aus (Biokost aus regionalen Produkten). Der große Spielplatz mit Irrgarten ist für Kinder der Renner. A little bit unconventional concept but very fascinating. The tour starts by introducing the themes and poetics of Kleist's work. An entire room dedicated to the poetics of Heinrich von Kleist's works is every literature nerd's dream! The second room should be proceeded with caution though, as it is a labyrinth of bars and mirrors with uneven floors. If you get dizzy easily, I suggest you avoid that room. The rest of the exhibition is dedicated to his life from his family history to his death. Ich bin in Kampehl geboren und habe mein erstes Lebensjahr gegenüber der Kirche in Kampehl verbracht. Von daher bin ich mit der Geschichte vom Kahlbutz aufgewachsen und finde diese Mumie, die aus immer noch unergründlichen Gründen nicht verwest, faszinierend und gruselig. Im Stadtwappen von Königs Wusterhausen sind Sendemasten zu sehen. Hier stand der erste Rundfunksender Deutschlands. Erst 1915 wurde der Betrieb des Senders eingestellt. Insbesondere ehemalige Mitarbeiter des Sendes retteten die Sendeanlagen vor der Verschrottung, so dass man heute hier eine einmalige "Wanderung" in die technische Vergangenheit machen kann. Die Öffnungszeiten sind Dienstag, Donnerstag, Samstag, Sonntag von 13:00-17:00 Uhr. Ab fünf Personen kann man auch Sonderführungen vereinbaren. Man sollte sich den Film über die Herstellung von Plastiken / Glocken zuerst ansehen, dann kann man besser verstehen , wieviel Arbeit, Mühe und Fingerspitzengefühl in dieser Arbeit steckt. Der Museumschef , sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend , weiß genau von was er spricht und macht seine Arbeit mit viel Hingabe und Leidenschaft.

It is worthy to make a detour and go visit this museum. Take the guided tour, that last one hour, and you will definitely learn a lot about the ceramic stoves industry in the 18th and 19th centuries. In 1905 there have been in Velten 38 stove and ceramic tiles factories which made Velten an attractive place to live in, ensuring employment and well being. In the Museum there is an extraordinary exhibition of stoves of the above mentioned period some of them rare and of artistic value. The guide will then take you to visit the factory and explain the methods of producing the ceramic tiles. The factory is still working . There is there also a shop which offer very nice products. Die Gedenkstätte befindet sich in einer der ältesten Strafvollzugsanstalten der Mark Brandenburg. Im Jahre 1812 entstand ein Polizei- und Gerichtsgefängnis, das im Laufe der Zeit mehrfach bauliche Erweiterungen erfuhr. Nach 1933 übernahm die Gestapo das Gefängnis und nahm dort auch Hinrichtungen vor. Etwa 1950 wurde die Einrichtung vom Ministerium für Staatssicherheit (MfS) übernommen, die das Gebäude bis 1969 als Untersuchungshaftanstalt führte. In einem Zellentrakt im Erdgeschoss des Erweiterungsbaues aus dem Jahre 1899 entstand die Gedenk- und Dokumentationsstätte, die am 17. Juni 1994, dem 41. Halfway between Berlin and Hamburg you will find the Prignitz. At one time a narrow-guage railway connected the towns of Kyritz, Breddin, Glöwen, Havelberg, Perleberg and Pritzwalk. Situated at the center of this railway network was the Lindenberg junction. The narrow-gauge railway provided the connection to normal, full sized railroads, connecting the Prignitz to the wider world. Primarily, argricultural goods were transported, but also a small passenger service was part of everyday business. After its opening in 1897 the railway experienced many high and low points until its closure in 1969 and 1971. Our association has made a point of keeping the technology of the railway, tenderly called "Pollo" by the locals, alive and by doing so, we are preserving not only a long gone period of the railway history but also regional history. First, a museum opened in the village of Lindenberg. The focus of our association was an exhibition track with a few of the surviving and restored wagons. The idea of rebuilding a part of the old track was later proposed. In 2002 the first section between Mesendorf and Brünkendorf was re-opened. In 2004 the track was extended to the village of Vettin and since 2007 we run a periodic historic railway service to the former junction Lindenberg, which is a distance of nine kilometers. In service are mostly original wagons, as there once would have been on the Pollo railway. The highlight each year is the steam engine service around May, when original and occasionally other steam engines are in service.See more..
