4.5Neues Palais(896 reviews) - Currently open but under restoration until 2028 Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks
Neues Palais and its surrounding building are at the opposite end of Sanssouci Park and a 2km stroll through the garden from Sanssouci Palace. While the palace were the private quarters of Friedrich the Great, these quarters here were for guests and entertaining, so are much larger and more impressive and pretty incredible, especially the marble dance hall and the shell grotto but also Voltaire's guest chambers. There are some 300 rooms inside, only 30 were available to view and they were spectacular. They rotate those depending on time of year and state of restoration planning which is a $20 million project to finish in 2028. The whole estate is awe inspring and well worth visiting. Bring goid shoes. The stairs to the second floor are steep without guard rails and there is no elevators, so no way to visit for the elderly or walking impaired.See more..
4.5Holländisches Viertel(785 reviews) - Shame about the cars Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Dutch Quarter of Potsdam is a pretty collection of buildings with distinctive Dutch style housing. Although I'm usually an advocate of cars in this instance, cars being parked on both sides of the streets detracts from appreciating the buildings. Some nice little shops and cafes here too.See more..
This is very odd building. It is a Chinese looking house with lots of golden features. It was built from 1755 - 1764 in a mixture of ornamental rococo elements and parts of Chinese architecture. When we visited the house was closed and even on the official website it says it's closed until further notice.See more..
4.5Museum Barberini(331 reviews) - What a surprise Tuesday: Spent 2-3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Art Museums
With the opening of the Museum Barberini in 2017 Potsdam gained a new art museum. Exhibitions range from Old Masters to contemporary art, with a major focus on impressionism. Based on the works from the collection of Hasso Plattner, the museum’s benefactor and patron, the Museum Barberini presents three exhibitions each year with loans from international museums and private collections. The exhibitions are prepared at conferences with renowned academics and displayed in new contexts alongside smaller shows. Digital offers like the Barberini App and a media wall, together with a diverse events and education program, make art more accessible for everyone. In addition to its special exhibitions, the Museum Barberini permanently showcases the extensive collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings of the museum’s founder, Hasso Plattner, including masterpieces by Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Berthe Morisot, Gustave Caillebotte, and Paul Signac.See more..
4.0Alexandrowka(252 reviews) - Charming Russian Village Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
Fantastic little Russian village in the middle of Potsdam. Very charming even in the winter and one can only imagine how gorgeous when fruit trees and flowers are in bloom. Impressive gardens surround each house. Tea house could not accommodate our large party of 8 and oddly enough was ran by people speaking German only... no English or Russian. I would have loved to have some tea , but overall, it’s worth a visit. Odd and awesome piece of history.See more..

4.0Beelitz-Heilstätten(183 reviews) - Wonderful piece of history just outside of Berlin Points of Interest & Landmarks
I had a day to kill, so I took a trip to the Beelitz-Heilstätten. I did not quite know what to expect, but I thought it was thrilling! I spent a lot of time walking around and staring at the different buildings, and I joined a tour of the Alpenhaus. I don't know if English-speaking tours are available, so best ask in advance if you don't speak German. Wonderful way to spend the day! See more..

4.5Potsdam Friedenskirche(128 reviews) - Don't miss this church Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
This may be my favourite church building. At the entrance to Sanssouci garden you can't miss it. Friedrich Wilhelm IV had it built in the mid 19th cenury, copying medieval Italian church architecture. On the inside you will find a huge Venecian mosaic from the 13th century, which the king bought as a prince and had it shipped to Potsdam. The coffered ceiling displays golden stars on a blue background. The church isn't very big, and yet very impressive. Additionally, Friedrich Wilhelm IV and his wife are buried in the royal crypt of the church. Just outside of the church, in a mausoleum you can find the tombs of Kaiser Friedrich III, his wife Queen Vicy (daughter of Queen Victoria) as well as the Soldier King. Unfortunately, the mausoleum isn't usually open to the public. If you visit Potsdam and Sanssouci, do not miss out on that church.See more..
If you are interesting in constructions and engineering this is an interesting place to visit. This boat lift is a listed attraction (Denkmal) which is not surprising considering that it has been in use since it was built in 1934. From this one you can also see the new boat lift which is under construction. The new one is larger in all aspects and should ready in 2014. You can either visit the boat lift on foot (€ 2/adult, € 1/child) which is where you will be able to read information about the lift, e.g. that it takes it 5 min to transport the ca 4 000 tonnes water/construction up the 36 meters. It is not a long or hard walk to get up there from the parking (by the café/restaurants). You may also join a boat tour and actually travel with the lift, but we didn't do this, so I'm not sure where you can get more information from, I just thought it might be good to know.See more..
4.5Kloster Chorin(117 reviews) - Abbey with Music Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Religious Sites
This Cistercian Monastery Chorin was founded in 13th century by the joint governing Ascanian Margraves of Brandenburg John I (1213–1266) and Otto III (ca. 1215–1267). Concerts take place during the summer in the former monks' parlour used for Protestant church services since the Reformation. This room, to the S.E. of the Abbey complex was once used for work and study by the Cistercian monks. It has an impressive triple ribbed vault roof supported by a single central pillar, it's acoustics are excellent. As the only enclosed room in the Abbey it holds an audience of about 100 in an intimate atmosphere.See more..
The F60 conveyor bridge is a colossal, half-a-kilometre long structure and a vivid testimony of (not so far) industrial history. It's striking to see the damage caused by producing energy (the old way). So, in short, this is a must-see. Every cent of the 9.50€ entrance fee (including guided tour) is worth it. You will climb the structure up to the highest point. Point deduction for the fact, that the guide is quite hard to understand when you are at the rear of the group (due to the limited width of the walkways the groups will mostly be in a large lines one behind one). Also, it's rather remote. However, the heritage Zschilpchenbahn (which runs on sundays during the summer months between Finsterwalde and F60) is a great option to get there.See more..
4.5Spremberger Turm(66 reviews) - Great Panorama of Cottbus Points of Interest & Landmarks

4.5Windmühle Straupitz(50 reviews) - Line oil mill with very deep commitment to quality, quality and quality, must see. Tuesday: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings
we had read about the mill and its not flour or wood we were interested, its the fantastic quality criteria of line oil, which apparently has all kinds of benefits - like reduction of cholesterol, etc. while its a simple process, its quite manually intensive and the product as such is cheap for what it does. strongly recommendSee more..
4.5St. Marienkirche(48 reviews) - an unexpected miracle in the center of a small town Points of Interest & Landmarks
We walked around the city searching for a small cafe and quite by chance stumbled upon this miracle. To say that we were impressed is not to say anything! An amazing, beautiful church (as far as we could understand that this was a church - because in English there was quite a bit of information unfortunately). The photos do not convey the atmosphere at all - this should be seen with your own eyes! Strongly recommend to visit - you will not regret it!See more..
4.5Heilandskirche am Port von Sacrow(38 reviews) - A wonderful location on the Havel Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 3:30 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Churches & Cathedrals
Well, actually it's situated on the bank of lake Jungfernsee, which is a part of river Havel :) You get there either by bus or the "Wassertaxi" (water taxi, ships running on a schedule as part of the public transport in Potsdam). When you're there, I highly recommend to visit the restaurant in the gardens just around the corner aka "Kleingartenverein Sacrow/Meedehorn e.V". It's not "high cuisine", but you get home-made cakes, regional food and drinks at a very nice price by very friendly staff.See more..

It costs 10€ only and you get a 2,5hrs history lesson with lots of anecdotes around the construction of the olympic village in the early 30ties. The guide was very competent conveying all the information with lifeblood and passion.See more..

4.0Burg Rabenstein(22 reviews) - Nice destination foa a family day-off Points of Interest & Landmarks
1 hour trip from Berlin, and completely other world: a small medieval fortress on a hill is old and nice. The tower is worth going up, inside one can find a small chapelle and on the top a view to the village Raben. On the fortress yard there is a knight hall, a restaurant and a biergarden. You can have a walk around the walls. I believe it's a nice wedding location. Large free parking is available just at the entrance. In the forest, there are various routes for hiking and nature enjoying. In the village Raben there is a wonderful large playground for those who come with children.See more..

3.0Oderturm(22 reviews) - Hard to know what to think Points of Interest & Landmarks
It is strange to have this one skyscraper in the middle of a town dominated by church spires. At first, I really disliked it. Yet as I wandered around, it became alandmark and the area around it has been developed in a way as not to leave it as an eyesore. The mall inside of it makes use of the tower.See more..

5.0Kloster Stift zum Heiligengrabe(14 reviews) - Fantastic family restaurant Points of Interest & Landmarks • Churches & Cathedrals
This historic place is definitely worth seeing. The area of the old cloister is simply beautiful with its medieval buildings. We visited this place already for the 2nd time because of its excellent Restaurant. There is a nice playground for small kids just in front of it. It makes waiting for the food much easier for the children. They have a children's menu. All the food here is of high quality, they have interesting ideas and tradition, they use local products (cheese, herbs, game meat). Delicious. The place is absolutely worth leaving the highway A24!See more..

4.0Europa-Universität Viadrina(10 reviews) - an interesting university, worth a visit Points of Interest & Landmarks
If you have some extra time in Frankfurt/Oder, you might consider visiting the university. It is a very good idea to have a university on the border between these countries, given the contentious past and especially the destruction caused in WWII. There are some nice buildings, especially the old post-office building in which two institutes are housed. There is also a part of the university on the Polish side of the border (over the river)See more..
4.5Biotüerme Lauchhammer(9 reviews) - Ein trauriger Rest von Lauchhammer's einstiger Größe Tuesday: Points of Interest & Landmarks
See more..
4.5Gradierwerk(9 reviews) - A valuable healing climate for lungs Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
Next to the Bad Wilsnack spa is a graduation tower. The tower consists of a wooden wall-like frame stuffed with bundles of brushwood. Over time the brushwood become encrusted with mineral deposits. The bundles are changed every 5 to 10 years. Occasionally referred to a thorn house, the structure is used for evaporation of brine water. The hot brine comes from a depth of 1,018 meters. This results in a high concentration of mineral salts in the surrounding air. It brings a valuable healing climate for lungs recovery.See more..
4.0Sankt-Gertraud-Kirche(9 reviews) - Красивая церковь, очень оживляет современный пейзаж вокруг. Points of Interest & Landmarks

This war cemetery in Halbe, 30 mins on the autobahn south of Berlin, is a sad reminder of the pointless waste of war. It is apparently the largest in Germany and was established following the dreadful Battle of Halbe (otherwise known as the Halbe Pocket of Kessel) about which much has been written. The battle was in the last days of WWII in late April 1945 and represented a desperate fight by the retreating German forces to break through the surrounding Russian forces, so that they could surrender to the American forces, well to the West, on the River Elbe. Few made it, hence the reason for this large cemetery. The cemetery is beautifully laid out, under trees and in a very peaceful setting.See more..

3.5IL 62 Lady Agnes(7 reviews) - Very interesting for young and old and great day out Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
This is the second time, we have visited the site and aeroplane, as we could not get in the first time. After the BUGA took place, this is now so much nicer to walk to the plane and has lots of features around and even a small play ground area. The plane is fantastic and you will be shown a small film about the history of flying and how the plane ended up in Stoelln. Also interesting the small exibition right next to the plane and the Otto-Lilienthal-museum in town (combi Ticket for both available)! Only down point, most flyers and informations are only available in german. Would be great to get something in english for international visitors.See more..
5.0Rauensche Berge(7 reviews) - A lovely spot Points of Interest & Landmarks
We went here on 28 December - middle of winter. It is close to the Autobahn, so there is a bit of noise, and it takes a while to get into the nature. We visited the large stones that had moved from Sweden during the Ice Age - very impressive. Then we went to the lookout tower. It cost 1 euro to go through the large turnstyle (machine takes 50cent and 1 euro - be sure to have some change with you. The large turnstyle could take more than one person...) The tower is impressive in itself, Very tall, built from steel, and moves with the wind...freaky. Up top there are great views over lakes, the forest itself, and you can almost look to Berlin. I can imagine this place is even prettier in Summer.See more..
