4.5Kloster Chorin(117 reviews) - Abbey with Music Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Religious Sites
This Cistercian Monastery Chorin was founded in 13th century by the joint governing Ascanian Margraves of Brandenburg John I (1213–1266) and Otto III (ca. 1215–1267). Concerts take place during the summer in the former monks' parlour used for Protestant church services since the Reformation. This room, to the S.E. of the Abbey complex was once used for work and study by the Cistercian monks. It has an impressive triple ribbed vault roof supported by a single central pillar, it's acoustics are excellent. As the only enclosed room in the Abbey it holds an audience of about 100 in an intimate atmosphere.See more..
4.5Marienkirche(17 reviews) - St Mary's Church in Prenzlau. Spent 1-2 hours Religious Sites
We've noticed church's towers from the distance whilst driving to the East. Because it was still fairly early, we decided to leave the route and visit it. We've left a car near Neustadt Street and walked towards the church, aiming at its mighty towers. First church in this spot was built between 1235-50, as a three-aisled hall church made of field stones. Less than four decades later, construction of new church started. Romanesque edifice was partly demolished, and partly incorporated into brand new, Gothic Style church, construction of which took half a century. More spacious than its predecessor, new St. Mary Church in Prenzlau was modelled on famous St. Mary's Church in distant Kraków and Cologne's Cathedral. The resemblance is striking. Mainly, due to the towers. Following, 14th and 15th, centuries, witnessed changes and alternations made to its interior and silhouette. Among the others, Margaret Chapel was added on its south side. Church stayed in relatively untouched condition until April 1945, when it was burned down by Red Army. After complete destruction of its interior church has never regained its former splendour. Only high altar has survived because it was walled up. Renovations, which took decades, were limited to the repair of roof, walls and windows. Church spacious interior was left stripped down of all ornaments. Still, it made a great impression on us. For the brave ones, 234 steps is waiting, leading to the top of the church's towers and viewing platform between them. Admission cost just a few quid. Well spent few quid. Of interesting facts from church's history - during the Thirty Years' War, body of Swedish King, Gustav II Adolf, was kept in north tower of Marienkirche from 20th to 22nd December 1632.See more..

4.5Museum Kloster Zinna(5 reviews) - Eine Offenbarung! Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Religious Sites • Churches & Cathedrals
