    - A lovely walk through royal history
Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Historic Sites • Castles
    Schloss Rheinsberg image
This rococo lake view Prussian palace is beautifully restored to give visitors an idea of what it was like to live in an 18th-century castle. The detailed renovation has been completed in exquisite detail. You walk through room after room of incredibly designed salons, all with different themes and lovingly restored furniture. Don't miss the Muschelsaal (Shell Salon), a room decorated with seashells. Don't forget to look up at the ceilings, one has an astrological motif and another painted in a dizzying, almost vertigo-inducing design. If weather permits, the grounds are also beautiful to explore. 8 Euro entrance fee. See more..

    Schloss & Gut Liebenberg image
We stayed at the Schloss & Gut Liebenberg for a weekend for a family reunion. The rooms were nice size for a couple and it had all the right amenities. The service was top notch and the breakfast was amazing. The grounds were great for a stroll or just to sit and enjoy. We really loved the place and the ambient The only drawbacks were the lunch and dinner for the reunion. Our extended family of 80 overwhelmed the staff and they could not provide sufficed utensils, plates or food… There was always something missing… See more..

    Schloss Paretz image
Man konnte alles in Ruhe genießen. Es ist es total wert hierher zu kommen. Den vielen Kulturliebhabern und Spendern sei Dank. Und den netten und kompetenten Mitarbeiterinnen des Schlosses. See more..

    - überraschend informativ

    Jagdschloss Schorfheide image
The baroque hunting castle of Groß Schonebeck was built in its present form under the regency of Prussia's "soldier king" Friedrich Wilhem I.. Today, in its upper story it houses a part of the permanent exhibition "Jagd und Macht" (Of Hunt and Power). On the base floor, we present a sideshow about the German boxing legend, Max Schmeling, showing him from a different view: nature-lover, and hunter. The castle and its grounds are literally made for many occasions: before or after your visit at the exhibitions, you can have a piece of cake or a cup of coffee. Many a couple changed rings in our wedding room on the castles first floor with its wonderful ceiling and wooden fireplace. Over the year, a variety of concerts and readings take place. Our other buildings house the main part of the "Jagd und Macht" exhibition, and also the Tourist Information. See more..

See more..
  13. 4.5 Bischofsresidenz Burg Ziesar (4 reviews)
    - Museum and chapel of Ziesar castle

    Bischofsresidenz Burg Ziesar image
A friend that lives in Berlin invited me for a drive in the countryside and took us to the Ziesar Bishop’s Castle. The distance from my hotel at Olivaer Platz was just below 100 km and took us well over an hour but we did not rush. We found the place easily as the way to Burg Ziesar was clearly signed. Just before turning down into the parking to the right we got a glimpse to the left of a tower that we later saw, from inside the museum, had a stork’s nest on its top. Ziesar Castle was first mentioned as Ezeri in the foundation papers of the Brandenburg bishopric in 948. During medieval time Ziesar Castle, built atop an earlier Slavic fortification, was the residence of the Brandenburg bishops. The 35 m high keep is the symbol of the residence, visible from far away, with its cupola that looks like a bishop’s mitre. The bishops task was to Christianize the Slavic areas nearby a function that kept on until the sixteenth century. The residence had its own underfloor heating of the time. An open fire was lit in the cellar to heat the floor above. The hot smoke from the fire was led into chimney-flues to heat the upper floors. The castle’s chapel dates back to 1470 and inside you’ll find fully preserved murals that luckily survived centuries of secular use of the castle. The chapel reopened for services around 1952. The bishop’s residence is now a highly interesting museum of Brandenburg's Church and Cultural History of the Middle Ages. The permanent exhibition "Paths to the City of Heaven" opened in May 2005 and tells the story in two ways. One way is the story about the castle and its architecture and its use from Middle Ages until today. The other way is the history of Christianization in Brandenburg and shows the bishops as secular and spiritual leaders in medieval Roman Church. See more..
  14. 3.5 Burg Falkenberg (3 reviews)

    Burg Falkenberg image
See more..

    - A pedagogue in the time the Enlightenment
Tuesday: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • Castles
    Schloss Reckahn image
The Reckahn manor house dates from 1713 and is a monument in the village of Reckahn, Brandenburg. The manor house was a mansion of the von Rochow family. Even with the nice renovations you see the results of 45 years of DDR neglect. The manor house has a baroque park with the hereditary burial place of the von Rochow family. The Rochow Museum opened in 2001 and hosts an exhibition about the work of the von Rochow family and school reformer Friedrich Eberhard von Rochow (1734-1805). Friedrich Eberhard is known as pedagogue in the spirit of philanthropism at the time of the Enlightenment. These days the manor house is used as a modest hotel and the conference centre of Potsdam University. The former Reckahn School from 1773 is part of the Rochow Museum and hosts the Reckahn School Museum. There the work of Friedrich Eberhard von Rochow is also presented. The first Reckahn teacher Heinrich Julius Bruns is honoured with a memorial exhibition. See more..
