  4. 5.0 Greyfriars Vineyard (177 reviews)
    - A real gem in the English countryside. The perfect wine tasting experience and excellent value. A real must visit!
    Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Wineries & Vineyards
    Greyfriars Vineyard image
Under new management since October 2010, we are a commercial vineyard producing award winning English Sparkling wine. Greyfriars was originally planted in 1989 and has been producing great grapes and wines for over 20 years. We took over in late 2010 with the aim of expanding the vineyard dramatically, producing stunning English sparkling wine and building a state of the art winery, cellar and tasting room. We are well on the way to that goal. We have planted over 30 acres of new vines, predominantly the three classical Champagne grape varieties; Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. This will enable us to create a small range of spectacular English sparkling wines reflecting the unique local soil conditions, climate and heritage of the Surrey North Downs. The Downs in southern England are blessed with similar geological and soil conditions to the Champagne region in France. At Greyfriars we have a clay/loam topsoil over several hundred feet of wonderful free draining Cretaceous chalk. The chalk was originally deposited over a hundred million years ago when this entire area was submerged under a tropical sea. The highest part of the estate offers splendid views towards the South Downs and east towards Guildford and beyond. In September 2013 we released the first wine made entirely by our own fair hands, a delicious sparkling rose, the first release of many. By the end of the decade we will be producing 100,000 bottles a year. See more..

    The Sculpture Park image
What a fantastic place to visit. My wife and I spent just over the two hours that was suggested for a visit and we still had not covered all of the site. The sculptures are fantastic, some quirky, some beautiful and some both and the whole park is in such a scenic setting. I have no idea how they managed to move most of them into place!! This is an excellent way to spend a half day and we will return in the spring/summer next year to catch what we missed on the first visit. I must also say that the concession admission price of £5 plus booking fee was an absolute bargain. We will be back!! See more..

There is so much to do here - whether you are a sole visitor, a couple, group of friends or a family. Whilst camping in Surrey, we visited Box Hill and enjoyed a woodland walk with some stunning views of the south-east countryside. There are several strolls (of varying length) to choose from. Parking at the car park at the top costs £1.50 per hour. But if you are feeling more energetic, you can.park further down for free. As well as the walks and beautiful views, there is also a cafe and carbon negative ice cream kiosk for refreshments, along with toilets. In the summer holidays there was a trail for children and other activities. We wish we had found this earlier on in our holiday as there was plenty to explore. See more..

    - Great for kids
Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 9:00 PM National Parks • Forests
    Alice Holt Forest image
Great fun especially for children. We were with grandkids aged 4 and 6. Most of the climbing sculptures and carvings were easily accessible for them, although one or two youi'd need to be a largwer child say 7 or 8. There is also a zip line climbing area called Go Ape but that is payable for entry. Otherwise it is free apart from parking which is not expensive. We paid £5 for 2 hours which seems reasonable. It is well signposted inside to follow the trails. See more..

    British Wildlife Centre image
A lovely place ... Lots of animals that we often do not see in the wild or up close such as badgers , hedgehogs , wildcats, bats , owls , otters and pine martens. There are talks throughout the day you can listen to and a small cafe on site. The owl display towards the end of the day is also worth waiting for. The entry fee is £13 for an adult which I think is well worth it. The speakers were well informed at the talks and the talks weren't too long which is also good. See more..

  19. 4.5 Leith Hill (456 reviews)
    - Epic views & Amazing picnic spot!
    Lookouts
    Leith Hill image
I parked in the 1/4 mile car park (Leith hill tower & Countryside National Trust is what the car sat nav says) which is a short but steep climb up, would have been tough carrying kids so I’m glad I went solo. But there are other car parks with a longer 1 mile walk which are less steep. I got there just before sunset & paid £3 to go up the small tower, tight spiral staircase to the top, only room for one person at a time going up or down, getting past someone would be a very tight squeeze indeed. Tea/coffee/cake/sandwich etc available at the coffee shop inside the tower base. There are also a few picnic tables & seating around for you to sit & enjoy the view. Really beautiful part of Surrey, loved it. See more..

    - Treats with Friends
Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Distilleries
Silent Pool Distillery & The Pool Bar image
Booked as a get together with friends who enjoy a cheeky tipple as much as we do! The website makes it easy to book and there was plenty of availability. This place is a relatively small set up but right from our arrival the welcome from Sam ..our tour guide …was brilliant. She made the whole experience fun with amusing stories mixed in with the facts. The tour is roughly an hour and a half but we managed to cram in 7 tastings….and if that’s not enough there is a whole array on the tasting bar for you to try as well making this a very reasonable treat at £20 a head. Well worth it. See more..

LOSELEY PARK ( GARDENS ONLY) IS OPEN FROM MONDAY'S TO THURSDAYS- 10-5PM UNTIL THE END OF SEPTEMBER 2020 . Built in the reign of Elizabeth I, Loseley Park stands in ancient Surrey Parkland close to the North Downs yet within reach of London. Still the home of the More-Molyneux family, it is remarkably unchanged since 1562 when Sir William More laid the first stones, and remains, as he intended, a place of calm, grace and subtle beauty. From the house itself, where the intricate panelling in the Great Hall was once in Henry VIII’s Nonsuch Palace; to the Tithe Barn with its ancient oak beams; to the elegant and restful walled garden, Loseley Park is sought after for civil weddings, corporate events, and as a location for films such as Sense and Sensibility. But it’s also a place to visit, to enjoy the grounds, the garden and house, and relax in one of England’s friendliest historic homes. ‘Invidiae claudor, pateo sed semper amico’ Shut to envy, but always open to a friend.
