    - Verulamium Museum
Sunday: 2:00 PM - 5:30 PM Speciality Museums
    Verulamium Museum image
Got off at St Albans City railway station and walked 25 mins to the museum, And boy! It was worth it. It cost me £7.50 Adult , (March 2022 prices) to get in, but that was also included the Amphitheater as well. The museum was so informative with lots to see and artifacts galore. And how the Romans lived in Britain. Verulmium was one of the most important towns after London & Colchester, From broaches to money to how the Romans used their tools to make things. There was also a 20 min talk about the mosaics by a lovely lady who was so informative and so knowledgeable , also telling us how the mosaics were transported to the museum and who found them. The detail in the mosaics are stunning. The Amphitheater is just a 5 min short walk out of the museum across a busy main rd But again, You can still see quiet a lot of the remains of the theater and picture boards are dotted around the site on what it would have looked like. See more..

  16. 4.5 Partyman World Of Play (358 reviews)
    - Birthday parties for my children
Sunday: 10:00 AM - 6:30 PM Spent 2-3 hours Playgrounds
    Partyman World Of Play image
We arranged two birthday parties i nthe last two months at Partyman in Stevenage. Both parties were great and kids enojyed the whole time. We especially appreicated the dance routines that Jay did for both parties. Songs were fun, kids stayed attuned throughout and we made some great videos to save the memories. Partyman can probably ork a bit more on the food they serve as, even for kids who are completely absorbed in play and gifts, the food was a bit flat. Overall, it is good value for money and I will recommend Partyman to my friends and family. See more..

    - Lovely historic place

Completed by 1405, the Clock Tower is the only surviving medieval town belfry in England and is designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The tower with its fine bell has survived over 600 years of use. The Clock Tower was first and foremost a political statement. The townspeople used it to assert their freedom, power and wealth in the face of the premier Benedictine Abbey of England (now St Albans Cathedral). The Clock Tower is generally open from Easter (Good Friday) to the end of September, every Saturday and Sunday and Bank Holiday, between 10.30am and 5pm. Last admission 4.45pm. It is also sometimes open on other special occasions like Heritage Open Days (September), the Food & Drink 'Feastival' (September) and the Christmas Lights switch-on (November). Admission: Adults: £1. Children: free. Unfortunately the Clock Tower is not wheelchair or buggy accessible or for those who experience claustrophobia. The climb up to the top is via 93 very narrow and steep steps. See more..
  18. 4.5 Fairlands Valley Park (308 reviews)
    - Happy 50th Birthday Fairlands
    Bodies of Water • Parks
    Fairlands Valley Park image
Fairlands park turns 50 this autumn and is looking good for its age! This large town park looks especially attractive in the autumn with lots of colour in the trees. Many trees were planted in the early days of the park. Others are from older hedgerows and farmland planting - how the land was used before becoming the town park. The park sits in a valley with a series of three lakes. The lakes have a different characters with one for boating, while at the opposite end a lake focused on nature and birdlife. The lakes and natural vegetation attract quite a bit of wildlife including grebes, cormorants, Egyptian geese, as well as many woodland birds. The paths are surfaced so its ideal for buggies and all levels of mobility. There are no flower beds or gardens as such - apart from a small 'maze' near the car parks and some colourful dogwoods and willows with red and green stems. There is a cafe with indoor and outdoor seating and toilets by the middle lake. See more..

  21. 4.5 Heartwood Forest (217 reviews)
    - A wonderful forest in the making well worth visiting
Sunday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent 1-2 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Forests
    Heartwood Forest image
Our trusty sat-nav took us staight to the 'free' car park. Well signposted walks and information boards and leaflets ensured we would not miss anything. Over 800 acres of new and ancient woodland with wildlife walks and meadows to enjoy but the bluebells in the ancient Langley Wood was the main reason we had come here. It is an ancient woodland in the centre of Heartwood Forest and to enjoy the biggest bluebell carpets we have ever seen. The walks were roped off to prevent damage to the bluebells. With the dappled sun it was totally wonderful and really well managed. Everyone, from lone walkers to families with children were engrossed in looking at this very low key spectacle. Apparently one fifth of the world's buebells grow in the UK and these large colonies can take 5-7 years to flower from seed. To complete a great day out, we would recommend booking at The Queen's Head in Sandridge for lunch afterwards See more..
  22. 4.5 Lee Valley Boat Centre (209 reviews)
    - A relaxing trip on the river
    Valleys
    Lee Valley Boat Centre image
The Lea Valley Boat Centre is great. You can hire all sorts of craft and there is a wide range of how long you can be on the river. I went with a group of friends and we hired an electric boat for 5 people for 90 minutes for £40, which we thought was very reasonable. The staff at the centre were friendly and relaxed and were quite happy about letting us eat our strawberries and cream at one of their tables before we ventured out onto the water. Do go; it's a lovely way to unwind and enjoy the tranquilty of that area. We went mid-week during term time and it was very quiet. It may be a lot busier at other times. See more..

  24. 4.5 Ivinghoe Beacon (157 reviews)
    - Fun Sunday Walk
    Hiking Trails
    Ivinghoe Beacon image
The photographs don’t really do this place justice. There is multiple trails to the top and the wildflowers are so pretty to look at. We went on a Sunday morning and even with a constant stream of people and families it didn’t feel overwhelmingly packed. It was really windy so prepare and wear a hat. There are also no toilets, benches or bins. The views are fantastic all the way around and the free parking is also a plus. To the beacon from the car park it’s about a 30 minute walk but you can keep going for miles. See more..
