    - A Wonderful Ride in Windsor Great Park on Beautiful Horses with Tally Ho
    Equestrian Trails
    Tally Ho Stables image
Horses to suit all abilities. Wonderful reception on arrival, friendly staff and excellent cleanliness (Covid-19). Three of us had a wonderful time with Tom who rode Jimbo (a beautiful half Shire/half Lusitano). We had two andulasian horses (Toro and Sol) impeccably behaved and a welsh cob (Oscar) who was also amazing.. a hot day but we went through woodland and near a lake and the trails are well maintained. We could see views of Windsor Castle and rode up to the King George horse statue. A few well controlled canters. The stables are located right next to Windsor Great Park, so no roads at all. Good parking. After the 2 hour ride we walked the short distance to the park and had a picnic .. it was just a wonderful way to spend the day. I would definitely do this again and can recommend this to anyone. I have been with Tally Ho Riding Stables 4 times now .. the first time was 22 years ago .. so they come highly recommended.. 11. 4.5 Windsor Castle (13.7k reviews)
    - Be prepared to queue
Monday: 10:00 AM - 5:15 PM Spent 2-3 hours Castles
    Windsor Castle image
A few pieces of advise. Buy the earliest entry ticket you can, head straight to the Chapel to see the Queen’s final resting place and then head to the queue for the Dolls House. It’s worth the wait. The queues will only get longer as the day goes on. The cafe haven’t quite got their system right with the food, hot drinks and payment causing a bottle neck at the till. Prices of cakes are RIDICULOUS - £6 for a slice of Victoria sponge cake. However our sandwiches and bagels were absolutely delicious! The staff couldn’t have been nicer, don’t be afraid to ask the members of staff around the castle about anything you are unsure of as they are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, particularly in the Chapel. And don’t forget to look out for Henry VIII burial place. The majority of people just walked straight past it without a second glance. Also remember to ask when you enter about when things might close, for example the Chapel. The gift shop which is located by the main entrance is much nicer IMO than the one further in. All in all we had a very lovely day. , See more..

    Dinton Pastures Country Park image
Lovely setting and well worth a visit for walking, cycling, boating, fishing. You can hire buggies. There is a large play area for children and two cafes. On the negative side, parking charges are high (£1.70 per hour) and I wasn't impressed with the food on offer in the second newly opened cafe. The service was a bit disorganised. See more..

  18. 4.5 Black Park (528 reviews)
    - Black Park
    Monday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Parks
    Black Park image
I've been walking the trails of Colne Valley for years now that Black Park is part of. And no this forest/park is not known for black magic or any dark rituals so don't be put off by the name. Once you're deep in the woods, you'll know why it's called what its called. Some of the tall Pine trees are so dark grey that they almost look black hence the name. You'll see wooden structures and other woodcarvings throughout the whole area as the Pine wood is the main product here. They've also given their name to the James Bond Pinewood Studios next door that are filming here regularly which makes it more of a commercial place. Also the weekends in good weather are noisy when every kid in the world Goes Ape and the their screams scare all the birds and wildlife away. But other than that, it's a lovely and peaceful area to get away from it all. See more..

    - As usual, The Watermill is a jewel of a place ...
Monday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Theaters
    The Watermill Theatre image
We visited The Watermill for a pre-booked lunch before the matinee show (“Spike” by Ian Hislop) and, as usual, the place doesn’t disappoint. We used to come semi-regularly pre-pandemic, and our forced absence brought home how much we’ve missed the place. Lovely food & drink, great service, a lovely show, and the magical setting that is The Watermill made this yet another afternoon to remember. See more..

My adult daughter and I do this walk quite regularly and love it. It's managed by English Heritage and is one of the few free visits, free car parking too. Only a portaloo tho, which was in a terrible unusable state at the time of our visit. See more..

If you are fit enough you can help with the winding of the sluice at the locks and help push the gates open. A really enjoyable afternoon keeping an eye out for Kingfishers , and ducks.
