Greg has organised a range of trips for me. Each time the accommodation is perfect with him giving great advice on our needs. He suggests and arranges fantastic activities at a great price and is never pushy about upselling anything. - Picturesque and Relaxing Journey on the Cromford Canal
Monday: Historical & Heritage Tours • Boat Tours
    Birdswood image
I booked online a week in advance, for a Wednesday trip, which was easy and straightforward. On the day the weather was lovely so the windows were rolled up. It was such a pleasant, relaxing journey and we were surprised at how quiet the engine was. I took my 89 year old Father with me and it was great to reminisce about having walked the route and local area in the past. The pre recorded commentary to provide some history to the route was very interesting. The Captain and other volunteers were extremely helpful and pleasant. It was excellent value for money and I would highly recommend it for a calm and relaxing trip down the Cromford Canal. I will also recommend it to groups that I'm a member of as a lovely potential social event. We will definitely be booking again in the future. See more..

  14. 5.0 Peaks and Paddles Outdoor Adventure (148 reviews)
    - Fantastic afternoon caving
Bike Tours • Climbing Tours • Nature & Wildlife Tours • Kayaking & Canoeing
Peaks and Paddles Outdoor Adventure image
We booked an afternoon slot caving in the Devonshire mine (Matlock Bath) - this is the less adventurous of the two options offered. I chose this one because I wasn't sure if the kids would love crawling through mud. However our family of 4 (2 adults + 10 and 12 year old) were well looked after by Chris. I'm pretty sure he adapted the visit for us as we went along, answering all the questions we had and making it more challenging for us when it turned out they did indeed like the dark and squeezing through narrow gaps. Overall a great trip. :) Thanks! See more..

    - Lovely paddle

    Trent Adventure image
We visited in late July 2020 (2 adults, 3 teenage kids) Highly recommend this experience, we all had a great time. All expected safety measures are in place, Robin is a lovely chap, taking his time to explain everything clearly and in a friendly manor. We did the 8.5 mile paddle which is all downstream with no portages, you can take your time and there's plenty of places to pull up for a little picnic. Little tip, if you are coming from the direction of Willington the Sat-Nav might direct you to turn right down Ferry Lane. Ignore it and stay on A1532, you'll see the flags etc a few hundred yards further on the right. See more..

Poised between gentle neglect and downright dereliction, Calke Abbey, the un-stately home, is unlike other great country estates. Entering along the Lime Tree Avenue offers views of the historic parkland, home to ancient oaks, secluded ponds and areas of National Nature Reserve. Nestled among peaceful woodland, Calke Explore provides the perfect base to reconnect with nature and explore the wider estate, including once-industrial Limeyards. Peeling paintwork and abandoned rooms tell the story of a country house in decline, while a vast collection reveals the varied interests of a caring family who never threw anything away. The walled garden bursts with seasonal colour and produce, while a domed orangery, faded glasshouses and gardener’s bothy echo the history of Calke’s working garden. Please note that opening times may vary and the house is closed over winter. Visit the Calke Abbey website for full opening details. See more..
