4.5 (1.520 reviews) Spent Ranking #4 in Derbyshire Bodies of Water

Picturesque walk.

This is a lovely place to walk with either long or short walks to choose from. The restaurant inside the Visitor Centre serves a variety of hot and cold food, cakes and snacks at reasonable prices. Large car park.

    Great place for walkers
Great place for walking. The circular trail around the reservoir is 8 miles long. It is very well maintained and signposted, with plenty of benches at the most picturesque views across the water. There are plenty of bird hides around the walk. The trail is for walkers and bikes. There are a lot of long steep climbs, so not the easiest if you are taking your bike. I'd strongly advise you to take your own food and drinks as the prices at the visitor center are very expensive. Sandwiches are £4.75 and drinks are £2.40. Plenty of parking. You can pay by cash or card and you pay when you leave. £5 for a full day.

    Great place to visit
Fantastic location for walking, cycling, bird watching or just sitting and enjoying being beside water. There are a range of different walks including one 30 minute circular walk which is perfect for buggies and wheel chairs, and which has plenty of benches if you want to sit awhile. The wildlife centre is excellent and doubles as a bird watching area - perfect for winter if you like to be warm! There is a cafe and a restaurant, both of which have outdoor eating areas with views over the reservoir. There are also lots of picnic benches. Toilets were plentiful and very clean. Parking is £5 for the day which we felt was very reasonable given the range of activities on offer.
