  3. 5.0 The Roaches Peak District (471 reviews)
    - Great Place, Parking Beware!
Sunday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Nature & Wildlife Areas
    The Roaches Peak District image
Mainly writing this review because their doesn't seem to be many mentions of the council using it as a parking ticket trap and visitors need to know. On a sunny weekend the parking laybys are woefully inadequate for the number of people trying to visit, so inevitably they park on the grass at the side of the road. The whole road is a 'no stopping' zone outside of the laybys but the signs are pretty far apart. The day I went there literally 100s of cars were being given tickets for parking on the side of the road so don't do it unless the walk is worth £35 to you! Why 5 out of 5 still? It's a stunning place where you can put together a hike that mixes the great views from the Roaches with woodland and an amazing chasm called 'Luds Church'. See more..

Tours cost £6 for adults and £4 for children (over 5 only) and senior citizens. Group bookings may also be made for schools and organisations etc. Please enquire via our website or at our Reception Desk. Our museum is also open at weekends and Bank holidays, plus several week days. There you can learn about the industries and history of Apedale and the local area. There will usually be a guide on hand who will be happy to answer any questions that you may have. There are several quiz sheets for children of all ages to have fun discovering the artifacts and information in the museum. These are sited on a table in the Roman section and available free of charge. Entry to the museum is free, although we'd appreciate it if you dropped a donation in our red box! The cafe is open every day, so even if you are just passing, you can come in for a cuppa [and a warm!] or to try some North Staffordshire Oatcakes, a speciality of the Potteries. Biddulph Grange Garden image
It bothers me that people are still banging on about Covid and every review they submit is all about Covid and it's all negative. Dorah, please just stay at home, you've probably had two jabs as well. We visited on a weekday morning and although we'd booked, if it's midweek, I think you can just turn up. Lovely welcome from a young lady who explained everything. They've arranged a one way system and the numbers are clearly monitored, I'm not sure what more they can do? With subscriptions down, it's not like they can have people around every corner monitoring 'bunching'! One of the more interesting gardens for sure, encouraged by my friend to feel the Redwood 'bark', like silk. Called in at the café, not much atmosphere, a bit of a sterile atmosphere, such a shame but this is what they have to do; a lady hovering nearby, ready to disinfect our table. Roll on June 21st. - Ladies Day, literally...
    Sunday: Theaters
    New Vic Theatre image
Went to this theatre for the first time (Feb 2023) to watch Ladies Day with 3 friends. The staff, upon entering, were lovely, polite & smiling. Details of the show were set out such as free photo props, and the (chargeable) programme. We went upstairs to the bar beforehand. Price for bottle wine same as pubs. Bar staff lovely. Went to our seats, front row, and staff show you where to go. Very helpfull indeed. The production was fab, really drawn in on the story... Funny and sad. Back up to the bar afterwards, which also meant you get to meet and mingle with the cast! Thoroughly great evening, and I will certainly be looking to go there again, as it was a much more personal pleasurable theatre experience than all other local theatres I've attended. Keep up the good work everyone. :) See more..

    Thor's Cave image
Lovely place to visit and some fantastic views! I would highly recommend making sure you have some decent shoes with a good grip, it can get pretty slippy. We went first thing in the morning around 9.30am, and we are glad that we did, it got pretty busy as we were leaving. (Spent around 2-3 hours here) There is a great little cafe near by, which was fantastic for a much needed refuel. Would recommend as well as going into the cave, spending the time to go up the path to the top of the cave - amazing 360 views See more..
