What a find on the edge of the Peak District!
What a gem. I last visited back in the dim and distant days of 1995. Then I was only ten years old. Over a quarter of a century on, the Tramway Village has expanded its facilities considerably. There is now a museum dedicated to the history of the area, a museum dedicated to mail and freight by tram and, of course, many more lovingly restored tramcars. You have to come here at least once in your life. A ticket costs £20, which is a little steep for just one visit, however said ticket is valid for a whole year after issuance at the ticket counter. There are often three or four tramcars in operation, and they sometimes get switched around halfway through the day.

Memorable family day out
Easy enough to find, big car park and straightforward entry. Not cheap but OK for a day out. It was a nice warm day which helped. When we got there we went on an old Sheffield tram and then had a coffee. The cafe seems a bit old fashioned but apart from being slow was a welcome break. We then wandered around the museum, tramshed and model tram exhibition, it’s all a bit geeky but interesting and fun. We went for lunch which wasn’t bad for £33 for 4 adults and a 6 year old. Food is a bit basic but filled a gap, although we waited in the queue longer than it took to eat the meal. After lunch we boarded the old chesterfield tram and got off for the woodland walk. There were lots of interesting sculptures and play areas which kept us all occipied. The 6 year old enjoyed the playground then we headed off for a yummy ice cream, went to the shop which was a bit of a disappointment and left for home.
