  6. 5.0 The Courtyard of the Cyrillic Alphabet (1 review)
    - Great Place to visit to understand Cyrillic Story in Bulgaria
    Speciality Museums
The Courtyard of the Cyrillic Alphabet image
One thing that I wish - Bulgarian Government will put up more fund to add English version of each touristic site history so it will be more easier for us to understand behind all of these waxes or letters and so on. And so we can feel the history while visiting this sort of place. If we don’t have local guide Nor local friends along we won’t understand fully the rich history. There’s entrance fee to pay on this 20-30mins tourists site. It’s a must to visit if you’re within the area. They did pretty good job with the waxes - it’s really close to real looks. See more..

  8. 4.5 Madara Rider (188 reviews)
    - Off the beaten path visit
    Monuments & Statues
    Madara Rider image
We stopped on our road trip at Madara Horseman and were pleasantly surprised by the park with the monument as well as other historic items/features. It is worth visiting and one would need a few hours to enjoy all the items of interest. To see the Madara Rider or Madara Horseman, an early medieval large rock relief carved on the Madara Plateau east of Shumen in northeastern Bulgaria, near the village of Madara, one needs to walk up about 300 steps. The monument is dated in the late 7th or early 8th century AD during the reign of Bulgar Khan Tervel. In 1979 rightfully so it became enlisted on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The sites are dispersed throughout the park and require walking up and down the steps sometimes relatively long distances but absolutely worth it. It is also only such carving of its kind in the whole Europe. Highly recommend. See more..
  9. 4.5 Monument "1300 Years of Bulgaria" (147 reviews)
    - Amazing place!
    Monuments & Statues
Monument "1300 Years of Bulgaria" image
The size of this place is massive. It just looks like a huge concrete monolith on a mountain with the Bulgarian lion on it but once you are there there are statues and mosaics inside detailing Bulgarian history. You can drive up, or walk up 1300 steps for the 1300 years if Bulgarian history. See more..
  10. 4.5 Fortezza di Veliki Preslav (44 reviews)
    - Majestic place full of history
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Fortezza di Veliki Preslav image
Veliki (that means "Great") Preslav was the capital of the Kingdom of Bulgaria from 893 till 969 and was considered as one of the most important and beautiful and magnificent towns of the Middle Ages in Europe which stood out with gorgeous buildings, highly decorated with gold and silver. Quite a lot of the old town has been preserved - the fortress walls, some of the defensive towers, the famous Golden or "Round" church which was the most prominent building in town, parts of the water supply and sewage systems, etc. The area covers about 3.5 - 4 sq km making it the perfect spot to spend the day out in nature. There is also an awesome museum close to the remains of the ancient fortress with lots of artefacts found/dug out in the area which is to be visited at the time you visit the fortress as the ticket includes both of them (abt 3 €). All info boards are both in Bulgarian and English. For Bulgarians it is a must-visit place, for foreigners it will be quite interesting. See more..

    Tuesday: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Wineries & Vineyards
    Tsarev Brod Winery image
Tsarev Brod is a small winery located between the first Bulgarian capitols - Pliska and Great Preslav, also 20km away from the only rock bas-relief in Europe - the Madara Rider. The winery is surrounded by 400 decares of vines. The project Tsarev Brod started in 2001 with the planting of Sauvignon Blanc - that made our Sauvignon Blanc vineyard the oldest in Bulgaria. In 2014 we decided to build a winery and in 2015 was our first vintage - a year when we showed our wine from Gergana, a domestic grape variety that was lost and forgotten. Thanks to our owner who is agronomist, we managed to resurrect the grape variety...now Gergana is anology for Tsarev Brod Located in the heart of the North-East - 100km from the Danube river, 80km from the Black Sea and 100km away from the Balkan mountain. Our climate is favorable for white and elegant red wines - Gergana, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Evmolpia and Pinot Noir are part of the grape varieties found in our vineyard. Our approach is balance!
