  14. 5.0 Holy Mother Step (2 reviews)
    - A natural phenomenon
Spent < 1 hour Religious Sites
    Holy Mother Step image
This is a natural phenomenon in Sarnena Sredna Gora ⛰️which is a mountain in Bulgaria. The water in the stone-like footprint never drains, even though it hasn't rained there for months. An old Thracian sanctuary, a present holy place with a chapel⛪. They say there is a special energy The place can be reached by foot and is recommended as a kind of walk. Unfortunately, there are no trees on the road and it is quite hot in summer. Some of the visitors get in cars and raise dust on the road, which is very unpleasant for pedestrians. Some drivers even comply and stop, but others, even when you ask them to slow down, so that the air is not dusted, seem to start turning tires on purpose. VINISHKI STONE - Interesting landmark connected to christianity. A patriotic Bulgarian has dug into into the rock the icon "Holy Trinity". According to the legends there was a chapel of "St. Marina", and in the rocks at the very top there is still a spring. Today, on top of the rock a large cross is raised, visible from afar. The stone structure is very suitable for rock climbing - the feeling of conquering the rock is unique! See more..

  22. 5.0 Orthodox Church of the Holy Prophet Elijah (1 review)
    - The Church Holy Prophet Elijah dates back to the beginning of 19 c and is a historical sight as well
    Spent < 1 hour Churches & Cathedrals
Orthodox Church of the Holy Prophet Elijah image
Only the Temple of St. Prophet Elijah, on the cobbled Kula square in Kazanlak, was open. Neither the ethnographic complex worked, nor the house-museum of the Bulgarian artist Dechko Uzunov, although it was at noon on Saturday. There was no information about it on the Internet. It was a blessing that the temple was open, since it is worth seeing it. Here is its story copied from zakazanlak.bg "The Church of the Holy Prophet Elijah is the first Orthodox church in Kazanlak. It was built around 1812. In order not to irritate the Ottomans, only its roof was above the ground, and 12 steps descended inside it. When the number of Bulgarians in the oldest Kazanlak neighborhood - Kulenska, increased significantly and the small church that was built there became narrow, it was decided to build a new church in its place. The Bozveli brothers provided significant moral and material support for its construction. The new construction, led by Master Joseph, was completed in 1865. The church had a 5-meter dome with 12 windows and an almost two-meter iron cross. In the following years the icons were made by the famous Revival artist from Chirpan Georgi Danchov - Zografina and on December 30, 1872 Metropolitan Ilarion Makariopolski performed the consecration. In August 1877, the church was completely set on fire by Turkish troops, who had previously killed dozens of Christians in and around it. It was rebuilt for a long time and with great difficulty until 1936, when a new fire caused enormous damage. Only the magnificent works on the dome "God Savaot" and "The Four Evangelists", the work of the famous at that time Kazanlak artist Ivan Enchev - Vidyu, survive. Today the church "Holy Prophet Elijah" is one of the most glamorous and visited churches in Kazanlak, a favorite place for weddings and baptisms." See more..
  23. 4.5 Buzludzha Monument (222 reviews)
    - Such history, but now almost lost
    Monuments & Statues
    Buzludzha Monument image
This was a cool, cool place to visit. The exterior is intact but everything within the interior has been destroyed or stollen (also it is locked so people can no longer enter). I wish I had gone to see this earlier before it has started falling apart, and I really wish the government would maintain it. The older generations have beautiful stories about this place - what is ones used to be. It is fairly close to Shipka (we visited both on the same day) - so I do recommend visiting both. See more..

  26. 4.5 Antique Forum Augusta Trayana (69 reviews)
    - My favourite place in Stara Zagora
Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites
    Antique Forum Augusta Trayana image
As a citizen of Stara Zagora, I often don't know where to go with my friends. And I always come up with this place. You can feel the historical atmosphere alongside with the breeze, which makes this place pretty attractive for cozy evenings with friends. However, if you're not a local, you can hardly understand something about this place since there are no signs or information. But there is an organisation which aims at introducing our town's amazing history to foreigners, but as far as I know, you should go to the Tourist Information Centre to see how to book the tour - it's free, you should know that. 30. 4.5 Tomb of Seuthes III (37 reviews)
    - The tomb that gave us wonderful artefacts like the bronze head of Seuthes III
    Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites
    Tomb of Seuthes III image
This tomb dates back to V century B.C. There were found very interesting and valuable artefacts like the bronze head of Seuthes III, a gold wreath, other gold objects, armors of a warrior and many more. You can see all of them in the History Museum of Kazanlak. This tomb differs from the others with its bigger chamber, much longer dromos, the passage to the chamber which is considered to be used by the soul of the passed away to move to the other world, and the carved images of Medusa and Helios Gods on the doors.
