  1. 5.0 The Petrified Wedding (22 reviews)
    - The legend behind this rock formation
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    The Petrified Wedding image
The Stone Wedding are rock formations located 5 km from the town of Kardzhali. Interesting is the legend that tells about these rock formations – when the wedding went, everyone who saw the face of the bride got frozen. So, at a wedding, a wind blew, took off the veil hiding the face of the bride, and all the wedding guests were frozen instantly! See more..
  2. 5.0 Thracian sanctuary (13 reviews)
    - The Rock at Tatul
Ancient Ruins • Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Thracian sanctuary image
The Tatul sculpture, which carved the sarcophagus from the west, resembles the shape of a pyramid without a pointed peak to which stone steps are still preserved. On both sides, the holes in which the burning torches were placed can be seen. Perhaps the sacrifices were carried out at sunset, and on the morning of the new dawn the faith in redemption was born. 3. 5.0 The Womb Cave (6 reviews)
    - Mystical Thracian Temple near Kardzhali
    Caverns & Caves
    The Womb Cave image
A fantastic and mystical ancient Thracian sanctuary near Kardzhali! A definite must-see. It's a hidden gem waiting to be discovered and swarmed by the crowds. The hike to the cave was a bit strenuous (for novice hikers, that is) and took around one hour, but the views were well worth the effort!!! The trail is not well marked, and there is no parking at the trailhead, so we had to park on the side of the road. There is a hotel&restaurant nearby, which is right on the water and serves delicious fresh fish. See more..

It is not a large gallery - but every painting and sculpture is worth your attention - this is an unbelievable gallery to visit. Not popular enough but words like "jem" totally fit it. The third most elaborate art collection in Bulgaria - A total Must if you are even remotely into art. See more..

    Perperikon image
This is a great place where you can see archaeological evidence from 4 different cultural periods and civilizations. The tickets are really reasonably priced and you can easily spend 2 hours there. A good tip is to buy a map for the place as it shows everything that is uncovered so far with explanation. There are lots of places for rest. Keep in mind that you need hats, lots of water and comfortable shoes. Not suitable for wheelchair users. See more..
  6. 4.5 The Stone Mushrooms (38 reviews)
    - Small and cute place
    Geologic Formations
    The Stone Mushrooms image
The natural phenomenon Stone mushrooms is located about 20 km from Kardzhali. The mushroom rock formations are sculpted into volcanic tufts. The pink and green colors, the blue and black spots are due to different minerals. Depending on which part of the day you visit them, their shades change. The mushrooms were formed 20 million years ago when it was a seafloor. In addition, the influence of moisture and wind gave them strange “mushroom” shapes with gigantic proportions. I believe the entry was about 3 Leva. See more..

    - Mythical Prehistoric Sanctuary in the Rhodope Mountain

Thracian Sanctuary at Tatul Village image
Archaeologists suggest that Thracians used Tatul to perform various religious rituals. The Great Orpheus, the legendary Thracian singer, musician, poet and creator of Orphism might have been buried here. Dated around 4000-3000 BC, the site appears aligned to the rising of the winter solstice and the setting of the summer solstice, similar to the Temple of Karnak in Egypt. One theory suggests that the Thracians apparently inherited vacated sanctuaries built by a forgotten ancient civilization. We were going around town and expecting a small museum to visit. Once we reached the site we were surprised - huge and exciting building. Three floors with hierarchical structure and great expositions. Especially the cultural and traditional crafts from the region. We would consider those as a must visit if you are around. Enjoy ♥️ See more..
