    Konna Baza Sakar image
During our last trip to Bulgaria, my son... who is a pure city boy, due to our geographical location, just LOVED riding every day... the place is AMAZING... just nature and animals... great people receiving you! Where can you sit in the garden... cuddling mini goats... being cuddled by a horse who enjoys our company... while the kids are riding safely in the field under supervision and guidance to improve? The horses are amazing... such sweet nature... Safety is always at first... for the well being of the children and the horses... I simply love that place... my son is safe... and I can chill... will for sure go back next summer... and more if and when I can... See more..

    - Enter the old fortress ruins
    Castles
    Lyutitsa image
On a hill near Ivailovgrad is lying an ancient fortress named Lutitsa. There is a road to the fortress but it is not convenient for a normal car. It is better go for a hike. The fortress is about 4 kilometers from the monastery st. Constantine and Elena. Depending on. How fast you are walking the hike will be around 2 hours in one direction but the view from the fortress is great. See more..

The village of Uzundzhovo plays an important role in the pre-liberation history of Bulgaria. The church "St. Assumption" in the village of Uzundzhovo is unique not only with the architecture but also with the unique history. In 1592 the Great Vizier Sinan Pasha decides to donate 30 000 gold coins for the construction of a huge complex whose central entrance has been preserved to this day. See more..

There are preserved traces of many prehistoric, Thracian, Thracian-Roman, Late Antique and Medieval settlements in the surroundings and the confines of Haskovo. In December 2000, a team of archaeologists led by Dr. Georgi Kitov (1943-2008) discovered a unique Thracian tomb from the IVth century B.C. in the mound Roshavata Chuka near the village of Alexandrovo. Mezek Fortress Neutzikon image
You can get a ticket to both the fortress and the tomb. The fortress provides a breathtaking view to the entire area - Mezek village, Svilengrad and the mountains. The tomb is at the other end of the village. It is quite enchanting, a bit mysterious. Despite being rather small, it's definitely worth it. See more..

  13. 4.0 Mezek Thracian Tomb (5 reviews)
    - Very interesting thracian tomb, guided tour excellent
Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Ancient Ruins • Religious Sites
    Mezek Thracian Tomb image
If you happen to be around Svilengrad, to stop by the village of Mezek to see the thracian tomb. Very interesting tour in this tomb, very curious story of how it was discovered. No drawings or anything, but lots of remnants from religious ceremonies were found here and they are now exposed in museums. There was a huge 170 kg bronze pig discovered on the site by gold-seekers, unfortunately they damaged the legs of the pig but otherwise it can be seen in Istanbul historical museum (the tomb was discovered while this region of Bulgaria was under Turkish rule). Do ask for a guided tour, not sure if there's one in English but the guide tells a great story and I almost dived into the whole story. There are also some street art paintings on the entry alley that are expected to take you to the old Thracian times. Not very impressed, though it was something interesting. Great nature around, so awesome for a picnic too. Lovely place and sight! See more..
  14. 4.0 Fortress Bukelon (1 review)
    - Ancient history meets jaw-dropping views
    Ancient Ruins
Bukelon fortress dates back to the 4th Century AD. Its location on an outcrop above Matochina village on the Bulgarian/Turkish border gives the whole site stunning views across both Bulgaria and Turkey. The castle is very well preserved by local standards and with no attendants on site, allows visitors to really explore, climb and interact with the site. Today the village of Matochina (meaning lemon-balm) is almost completely deserted. If you have time, take a walk around the ghost town and discover aged lookout towers, old shops and the beautiful old church. See more..
  15. 4.0 Holy Trinity Monastery (1 review)
    - Gorgeous place to spend the afternoon
    Spent 2-3 hours Religious Sites
The origins of the monastery date back to the 15th century, and the small central chapel is beautiful-boasting aged icons, candles and even a display of the Ottoman soldier skulls- apparently captured centuries ago. The monastery grounds are beautiful offering affordable accommodation, well-tended gardens and fresh-water springs originating from the cliff top above. Outside the gardens, yet still on monastery land, there's numerous shaded picnicking and BBQ spots beside the river. Each has basic tables and benches, previously used fire-pits and access to the small river for paddling. If you're feeling adventurous why not try the slightly dangerous walk/climb to the ancient cave church perched on the top of the cliffs. See more..
