Sunday Night at the Parque Expiatory

Yes - the cathedral is amazing. The doors are open and you can wander in and see this amazing "temple". And the Parque (better described as a plaza or square) in front of the temple is fabulous. Not sure how many nights a week, but definitely on Sunday nights the square and the surrounding streets are full of street vendors, street food, music, dancing and families enjoying the festivities. There is a restaurant overlooking the square (Tertulia) that has wonderful food and a great view of the cathedral and all the activities in the square. We enjoyed it very much.

Faithful were praying
I came here on a monday evening. It was almost empty except for a small group of locals who were praying and singing near the front. I did not want to intrude or be disrespectful so I only took a few pictures. The architecture is striking however and the spire is beautifully decorated with stained glass. It is very different from the main cathedral and, to me, seems more authentic and worth a second visit.

Wow!
When I rounded the corner and saw this church I felt as if I had been transported to medieval Europe. Just gorgeous inside and out. Most reviews will mention the mechanical clock but for me, the best parts of this church were the soaring vaulted ceilings, stained glass windows and the spiral chandeliers. If you are waiting for the mechanical clock performance, there are some great Mexican style ice cream shops across the street to sample!
