  2. 4.5 Rancho Verano Distileria de Tequila (214 reviews)
    - Great visit, super nice people.

Rancho Verano Distileria de Tequila image
We had a great time at this place. It was “off the beaten path” as they say, so much so that we probably would have been hesitant to go if our driver wasn’t a trusted resource. We went off the highway through a tiny village with chickens roaming the streets, then even past that to the distillery. So, it was pretty cool and authentic. There was a truck with harvested agave being unloaded when we got there. The tour was entertaining and informative, and we sampled eight different tequilas, so we were feeling pretty good after. Julio was a great guide, and it’s a family business. Other people come through on tour buses, apparently, but our visit was more impromptu. There was no charge, but we bought a bunch of tequila, so…anyway, it was both better and way cheaper than anything you can buy in town. See more..

Explore the historic grounds where Tequila Herradura has flourished for over 145 years. Starting at the traditional residences where many Casa Herradura employees live, you will walk the roads of the hacienda as we guide you through the production process. Stops include visiting the masonry ovens where you’ll try the distinctive taste of cooked agave and see a live demonstration from our skilled Jimadors. From there, we’ll take you to visit our citrus groves and open-air fermentation tanks. Here, you’ll follow Tequila Herradura closely on its long journey to maturity until it reaches its distillation process. The day will end with an introduction to the world of Tequila Herradura’s most iconic spirits. See more..
  5. 4.5 Baston del Rey (118 reviews)
    - Good Tequila and Informational Tour
    Distilleries
    Baston del Rey image
Baston Del Ray is a fancy small place where they make good tequila - their anejo was one of my favorite I tried across 3 different places on our trip but it does come at $120USD (that bottle is super cool) so that may not be for everyone's budget, it was not for mine at least ($88 for anejo at Rancho Verano, while Mama Lucia had theirs at $81 USD just to give you a comparison). The tour (free of charge, so tip generously) is informative and their product good, easy drive to the town of Aguacate (about 10 minutes south of Boca de Tomatlan), while in the area you can explore Cafe Hacienda Maria Bonita literally next door (selling good coffee and beans) or other tequila businesses in this small nice and very safe town. Don't just stop here check Rancho Verano across the street - they are all great places, after all this is Jalisco home of Tequila :) See more..

  7. 4.5 Destiladora Rubio (36 reviews)
    - A fun time
    Spent 1-2 hours Distilleries
    Destiladora Rubio image
We came to Tequilla via a 10 passenger van from Nuevo Vallarta / Bucherias area. We benefited from having a very fun group as well as our tour guide providing info as well last the Rubio Tour Guide. We had a short tour of the town and then proceeded to the factory for a tour and then the first tasting. The process isn't that complicated so the tour doesn't take too long. The tasting consists of a small sample of the four kinds of Tequilla that they make and then off to the gift shop. Gift shop prices are very reasonable - a baseball cap was $80 pesos. We then returned to town for some more Tequilla tasting... See more..

  9. 5.0 La Fortaleza (29 reviews)
    - THE BEST EXPERIENCE IN TEQUILA TOUR
    Spent 2-3 hours Distilleries
    La Fortaleza image
the whole experience was fantastic! we had the chance to take 3 tours starting with La Fortaleza, followed by Cuervo Velada and ending with Orendain. La Fortaleza distillery is handcrafted and it is one of the best tequila I ever tried. We were a party of 14, and all of us agreed it was the best. Is original name is Tequila Abuelo but due to some legal issues with Rum Abuelo, they had to create a new name for their tequila outside Mexico. The only thing is that you need to contact them thru email. See more..

What a fantastic experience It started with the most welcoming service possible I was thrilled to find an extensive interesting non-alcoholic drink list. I chose the Cantarito which was delicious. For my entrée I had the surf and turf Molcajete. The serving was far too generous for one person but somehow I managed I couldn’t resist tasting every last morsel. The welcoming service continued into amazing service throughout the meal. See more..
  12. 4.5 Tequila Don Valente (8 reviews)
    - Nice folks at a small distillery
    Spent 1-2 hours Distilleries
    Tequila Don Valente image
When we turned up the office was shut but there was a sales kiosk out front and the lady there told us that the patron had gone to lunch and would return at 4 pm. We went off for tacos de carnitas at Carnitas Fuente and returned just as the patron arrived back. He opened up for us. We looked over the small workroom and prepared to the sales room, were shown a short history of tequila and got to buy a few bottles of the excellent Don Valente añejo in the attractive older bottles. Our reception was very cordial and friendly. See more..

Hacienda Don Lalin Raicilla Distillery. image
This is one of those places that you hesitate to review because you would like to have it all to yourself. All the food is made to order. Special diets are not a problem; the food will be gladly adjusted to your dietary requirements. I wish I could return at least once a week. My greatest regret is that my party was leaving before I was unable to purchase some of his raicilla tequila. See more..

This is an up close tour of a classic old school operation. We loved it. Kevin is a very nice guy who does an informative tour in English. Eating the freshly baked piña right out of the oven was a real treat. Could not recommend more for an authentic experience close to Guadalajara accessible by Uber. See more..
