A great local museum that gives you a taste of the seafaring history of Ærø. It has an amazing collection of art that shows so beautifully the life of early Denmark and its seafaring past. There are lots of small seafaring treasures donated from the local community as much as from other sources. This gives you a very complete picture of the shipbuilding past especially. It is spread over 3 buildings each with their own focus. It is interesting for kids and also for adults. There are facilities for wheelchair users and there are good bathrooms. It takes about 2 hours to see it. There are some fun hands on things to try and the staff are really sweet and their English is really good...which when you are a tourist is really appreciated. Well done. We will be back next summer! See more..

The Welfare Museum is housed in Svendborg's old Poorhouse, a unique set of buildings showcasing an important period in Denmark's welfare history. Doors open into a world that up to now has been hidden from most of us. Here, we learn some of the stories surrounding the many people who lived on the dark side of society: the poor, the sick and the homeless who lived here, whether briefly or long-term, during the 102 years when the Poorhouse operated. Traces of the hardness of their lives are everywhere. The Welfare Museum conveys to the visitor a feeling of the past that creeps under the skin. See more..

  16. 4.0 Flaske Peters Samling (27 reviews)
    - Hilarious and awesome
    Speciality Museums
    Flaske Peters Samling image
At one point in the 1950s, more people came to this museum than the National Museum in Copenhagen. It's dedicated to one man who was the best ship-in-a-bottle builder ever, and it reunites the lost "American Collection" with a large collection that never left Aero Island. The new collection is laid out very nicely and across the courtyard is the older collection. This is folk art at its finest, and the story of Peter himself is amazing (he was quite the character -- his friends were panicked at what he'd say when the king came to visit... You'll have to visit to see what he did). There's also a little medical museum attached which is creepy and interesting. Ships in a bottle may no longer be the draw they once were, but if you've made it to Aero, you owe it to yourself to check this out! See more..

    - Beautiful Old Mill

    Tranekaer Slotsmolle image
Such a beautiful old mill. You can go pretty much all the way up to the top of the mill and see all the rooms and see what used to be in those rooms since they have preserved a lot of the old things from it but at the same time they have put up info about it and other mills around that can be quite interesting to read about. I definitely think it's worth a visit. It costs 20kr per person to go up and look around, I don't think that's bad for what you get to see. At the bottom there is a little cafe in a way where you can get some coffee and cake. They are also selling a lot of homemade figures and knitted things that can be quite cute. Very quaint place. 27. 4.5 The Flax Weaving Museum (11 reviews)
    - Excellent

    The Flax Weaving Museum image
The museum is a working museum, where a number of voluntary people meet some mornings a week to weave, work in the sowing room, repair and maintain the looms, start up new activities etc. Everything to make it possible to show a living and attractive museum to the public, but also to contribute to the history of this old handicraft, which was later industrialised, so that it can be preserved for the future. During the opening hours the looms are not running because the old looms are very noisy, but all visitors are offered a guided tour where a jacquard power-loom is demonstrated. The museum was established in the years 1993-1995 after Kurt Reindel, the owner of the closed Tommerup Weaving Mill, had donated the power-looms of the mill and their accessories. Most of the looms are from the 1930s when his father Edmund Reindel started the weaving mill. Exhibitions, cafe and shop have been established in the former cow house of Krengerup which used to hold 100 dairy cows. This building was constructed about 1860. The working museum, the Weaving Hall, has been established in a new cow house that used to hold heifers. The restoration and furnishing of the old cow-houses of Krengerup was made possible through a number of funds and donations. May: Weekends and public holidays from 13 to 17 June July August: Every day except Monday 13 to 17, Monday closed September: Weekends and public holidays from 13 to 17 Week 42: All days from 13 to 17 From October 1st to April 30th the museum is closed except for groups with appointments See more..

My husband and I really enjoy visiting unusual museums and this was definitely unusual. It is not a big museum, but there are a lot of items to look at and also tables outside where you can enjoy an ice cream and a drink bought in the gift shop. The displays were separated into the countries/regions of origin and that made it less confusing than it potentially could have been. All in all, a fascinating place and if you are there to see the castle then go down to the yellow building near the road and have a look at the collection. See more..

See more..

    - Not much non-Danish interpretation
Wednesday: 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM Speciality Museums
    Aero Museum image
This is a small museum which endeavors to tell the story of the town, and like many small local museums, got much of its inventory from donations of "old things" from locals. Unfortunately, none of the small museums we visited in Denmark provide interpretation or information in any language other than Danish. This museum was no different. We were provided with a map of the building and descriptions in each room that said things like "Farm implements" but not much beyond that. It seems a large oversight for a museum in a tourist town, especially in a country where so many speak English. You can purchase just admission to this museum or they will sell you discounted admission to this one, and the ships in a bottle museum and one other as a bundle. Worth an hour of your time if you want to browse antique objects from the history of the town. See more..

The idea for the Skoda Museum Denmark was born Aug. 8, 1998 , were 3 Skoda enthusiasts met up to plan a Skoda museum in Denmark The talk went and quietly the project took form. The following year the first museum in Denmark on Noerregade 33 Glamsbjerg was opened. We quickly realized that the space were too small, and with Mayor Ankjaer Stone Krog's help there was made a contract with Count Rantzau pair of Krengerup Gods for the new location. In August 1999, it was agreed that the museum had to move up to the 2000 season, but the hurricane in December 1999 came across, and the project was put on hold . The old barn, where the cars should stand , was destroyed, but August 3, 2001 the museum could move into the newly renovated barn The museum's cars. 1937 Skoda 418 Popular 1938 Skoda Popular 1949 Skoda 1101 1950 Skoda 1102 Tudor 1953 Skoda 973 R Babeta 1955 Skoda 1200 "sedan" 1958 Skoda 450 Roadster 1959 Skoda Octavia 1963 Skoda 1202 st. car 1964 Skoda 1000 MB 1966 Skoda Octavia Combi 1969 Skoda Octavia Combi 1969 Skoda 1000 MB 1969 Skoda 1000 MBX 1972 Skoda 110/120 1976 Skoda 110 R Coupe 1976 Skoda 130 RS Replica 1976 Skoda S100 1978 Skoda 130 RS 1979 Skoda 105 S 1979 Skoda 1203 Micro bus 1983 Skodaqua 120 GLS 1983 Skoda 120 Garde 1987 Skoda 130 LR Rally 1987 Skoda 1203 Ambulance 1988 Skoda 136 Rapid cabriolet 1988 Skoda Favorit 135 L 1989 Skoda Favorit 136 L Combi 1997 Skoda Felicia LXI See more..

All in a tiny space of just 100m2, but put together with such love and obvious passion that it just works. And the park within which it sits is beautiful too. If you're in the area, give it half an hour The main downside is that much of the text is available in Danish only - the main thing in English is the story of how the museum got funded, which just isn't that interesting. Denne hjemstavnsgård giver et godt billede at tidligere tidsers liv på landet. Der er uhyre velholt omkring bygningerne, så der må være mange frivillige i gang. Haveelskere får her et godt indblik i en gammel bondehave. Stedet kan anbefales See more..
  46. 3.0 Willemoesgaarden & Vestfyns Kunstmuseum (2 reviews)
    - Lokal museum
    Speciality Museums
