A great museum - totally worth spending a few hours experiencing the past ofÆrø.

A great local museum that gives you a taste of the seafaring history of Ærø. It has an amazing collection of art that shows so beautifully the life of early Denmark and its seafaring past. There are lots of small seafaring treasures donated from the local community as much as from other sources. This gives you a very complete picture of the shipbuilding past especially. It is spread over 3 buildings each with their own focus. It is interesting for kids and also for adults. There are facilities for wheelchair users and there are good bathrooms. It takes about 2 hours to see it. There are some fun hands on things to try and the staff are really sweet and their English is really good...which when you are a tourist is really appreciated. Well done. We will be back next summer!

    We, the Drowned
A visit at Marstal Søfartsmuseum is a must, when you come to Ærø. It will give you a view into the life on the Sea for the last 500 Years. And of course you also need to read the chronicle about the birth of the modern Denmark, a novel by Carsten Jensen, which also give life to Marstal.

Most see visiting Ærø - all about Danish Shipping History
A very interesting museum you really ought to see if you are visiting Ærø or are interested in learning about Danish shipping history! The museum tell a very comprehensive story about Danish Shipping history as well as shop it is importance for the island Ærø. You get an impression of how it would living on a ship away for long. The number of small, very beautiful miniature boats is really impressive! Note, they have a huge selection of books on Danish shipping in the shop. Very interesting all in all. This place is more minded adults than children - just so you are aware beforehand.
