Needs some help with execution

A visit to H.C. Andersen House is a surprising and fascinating journey into the author’s creative universe – and his world-famous fairy tales. Beauty merges with imagination at the museum, where world-class architecture and spaces bring nature indoors, and provoke us to turn things on their head and speculate about today and tomorrow. Via sound, light, space and scenery designed in collaboration with 12 international artists, in this innovative exhibition, we experience Andersen and his works speak to us. Our imagination is our only compass.

    Immersive fairytale
We loved this museum and don’t quite understand all the negative reviews. We didn’t have significant issues with the headsets. Occasionally we had to move around a little for it to detect the audio but that was all. We had two children with us (aged 9 and 12) and both loved it. The 9 year old did find some of the fairytale section tricky to follow but was fine with a little guidance. If you go expecting a museum in the traditional sense with lots of text to read and objects to look at you will be disappointed. You are unlikely to come away having learnt lots in a sequential way. But if you go with an open mind and a willingness to engage creatively there’s quite a high chance you’ll leave delighted and inspired. If there was room for improvement it was perhaps in making best use of the additional spaces (the house where Andersen was born) and the commemorative hall to display additional things from the museum’s collection. Overall though, we enjoyed our experience and would recommend it (oh and if you have children aged 12 and under don’t miss the indoor play area with wonderful costumes, play houses etc).

I'll repeat other reviewers complaints about the audio system. It was finnicky, cutting in and out and in some rooms really not working at all. This clearly interrupts the museum experience. But if you can get that working, I do think there's potential here. It's designed to walk you through the stages of his life - childhood, traveling abroad, romance, artistic creations, reflections before death. And then there are separate small spaces interpreting 10 of the most famous tales, but you do have to already be familiar with the tales to understand the exhibits. Only two sentence synopsis in the guidebook. There's a lot of unique visual things going on here. It wants to give you the impression of his mind and creative works. Don't go expecting the full autobiography or catalogue.
