  3. 4.5 ZOO Planckendael (1.119 reviews)
    - Animals kept in spacious conditions
Nature & Wildlife Areas • Zoos • Parks
    ZOO Planckendael image
I have not been to Planckendael since it was closed for Covid but I have been there many times previously. The Zoo is set in an extensive rural setting and the animals are divided by "continents". They are kept in spacious enclosures and there is quite a lot of variety. Parking is good and the restaurants are acceptable. I am obliged to choose "September 2020" as the date of my visit but clearly this was not the case as the zoo was closed to the public for Covid measures. My last of many visits was November 2019. Middelheimpark image
I went to Antwerp for 4 days and did lots of touristy things but I enjoyed visiting this park the most. My wife and I went round the parks on bikes and there were some very interesting and weird sculptures. There was also a great outdoor cafe.overlooking the park. See more..
  5. 3.5 Plopsa Indoor Hasselt (351 reviews)
    - Great for 2-10 year old kids
Spent More than 3 hours Amusement & Theme Parks
    Plopsa Indoor Hasselt image
We visited Plopsaland indoor Hasselt in February, and although it was cold the outside area was open as well. We went on a Sunday and it was not too busy, only 5 minute waiting or less for any attraction. Our kids loved the rides, please note that a few be a little wild for very young kids. The indoor rollercoaster is nice even for adults. They also have a playground area with a ball pit and a big slide (a big hit with our kids). The bumba theatre show was nice as well. All in all we had a fun day there, we were there from 11 am until 5 pm. For 18 euro per adult and child taller than 1 meter it is on the expensive side, and better to bring your own food as the food is very expensive for what you get, but it is definitely worth a day trip if you are nearby, especially when the weather is bad. 6. 4.0 Center Parcs de Vossemeren (331 reviews)
    - Nice place but avoid peak periods
    Amusement & Theme Parks
    Center Parcs de Vossemeren image
We went to Center Park for the new year's eve. The location is surrounded by nature, our cottage in zone 9 was quite far from services but extremely calm. The cottage (deluxe type) was well equipped end relaxing, some furniture or linen could be better. The central Dome is magnificent and well maintained but all the restaurants and buffets serve more or less the same food and the quality is medium/low (Fuego restaurant deserves a special mention for being horrible). Prices are quite high. Aqua mundo is nice and funny and offers a lot of water experience for the whole family BUT Center Parc should really think about setting a limited number of access to the pool for the external visitors when the village is fully booked: pools were really too much crowded and on Friday 3/1 the situation was intolerable. Discovery bay is nice and funny. In conclusion, if you live the structure as a camping, you avoid to eat all the times to the restaurants and you are not interested in being alone in the water, the place can be very nice and relaxing. 8. 4.5 Hoge Kempen National Park (184 reviews)
    - Relaxing
Tuesday: 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours National Parks
    Hoge Kempen National Park image
The Hoge Kempen National Park in a nutshell. The Hoge Kempen National Park covers 5700 ha and stretches across the municipalities Dilsen-Stokkem, Maasmechelen, Zutendaal, Lanaken, Genk and As. The Hoge Kempen is the largest woodland and nature reserve in Flanders. Extensive pine woods alternate with purple flowering heathland. Large lakes were left behind where sand and gravel were extracted. The highest ‘peaks’, 100 meters high, offer magnificent views. It is home to many rare and exceptional animals. Encountering a roe is not exceptional and butterflies like the swallowtail butterfly brighten up the summer. Special inhabitants are the slippery snake, the antlion and the European beewolf. Large stones and small boulders attest to the last ice age and lend it all a magical feeling. The Hoge Kempen National Park welcomes people with a ‘heart for nature’. That is why five locations have been selected as ‘Gateway to the Hoge Kempen National Park’: Stations As in As, Pietersheim in Lanaken, Mechelse Heide in Maasmechelen, Kattevennen in Genk and Lieteberg in Zutendaal. The gateways have car parks, information kiosks, cafeterias and additional attractions. It is your starting point for walking, cycling and horseriding. Admission to the gateways and the National Park is free. The National Park is not fenced off. See more..
  9. 4.5 Provinciaal Domein Kessel-Lo (145 reviews)
    - Beautiful scenery, lots for kids to do
    Amusement & Theme Parks
    Provinciaal Domein Kessel-Lo image
Visited here with friends as a group on holiday. Ideal for mid coronavirus activities as able to socially distance whilst still enjoying the lovely weather and scenery. Lots for kids of all ages to do with climbing frames, wooden obstacle courses and slides etc. Well built paths around lakes so would be good for wheel chairs etc too if needed. Parking bit of an issue because you could only get out with contactless payment using a bank card no one in the UK is ever going to hold, so had to get staff to let us out with cash. See more..
  10. 4.0 Abdij van Park (111 reviews)
    - A viisit to the PARCUM museum is a must
Spent 2-3 hours Historic Sites • Parks
    Abdij van Park image
The promise that this site and the PARCUM museum would be better starting from the end of 2018 became a reality - they currently have a nice exhibition about war & religion - a big plus of visiting the exhibition also gives a nice opportunity to see a renovated wing of the historical building- and if you would visit on Friday, Saturday or Sunday at 2PM, there is a extra opportunity to get a guided tour through the abbey. 12. 4.0 Provinciedomein Huizingen (80 reviews)
    - Seriously...just go!
    Parks
    Provinciedomein Huizingen image
This park is south of Brussels and amazing. Until March 31st, entry to the park is free (so a number of attractions are not open yet). There is a great playground with sand, multiple parkour courses, a pool, a restaurant in a little castle, trampolines, car course for kids, animals, lots of open space and trails, a competitive running track...we've been twice and haven't seen everything. After April 1st, it's only a few Euros to get in. The park is huge and beautiful. See more..
  13. 4.5 Park van Tervuren (67 reviews)
    - Lovely park
Spent More than 3 hours Bodies of Water • Parks
    Park van Tervuren image
We picked up a large map of the park at the Visit Tervuren visitors’ centre and took an enjoyable stroll along canals and ponds on a sunny October Sunday afternoon. The landscaped park offers lovely views on the neo-classical museum palace (1904-1909), modelled on the Petit Palais in Paris, and the smaller Palace of Colonies or Africa Palace (1897) modelled on the Petit Trianon. There is a smattering of old statues, most of them close to the Colonial Palace and the museum. To the east of the garden there is an interesting contemporary fountain entitled “The Congo, I presume”, by Belgian artist Tom Frantzen. In recent times it has been vandalised twice despite the fact that the ensemble is clearly critical of the colonial policy of Belgian King Leopold II in Africa. A clear case of misdirected iconoclasm. See more..
