    Salzburger Altstadt image
We decided to stay in the Alstadt(old city) of Salzburg and it was a great decision. The area is great for walking with so many historical medieval buildings cafes, restaurants, bars and shopping ans laneways to explore. On one of the days were stayed at Salzburg Alstadt there was a small market in the city square. My wife was disappointede that we were only staying 3 nights and Salzburg was one of her favourite European cities. Thankfully the historic centre is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996 so preserved for future generations to enjoy. See more..

  4. 4.5 Bregenz Festival (591 reviews)
    - The most amazing opera experience ever
Spent More than 3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Bregenz Festival image
Going to the opera in Bregenz was one of the most memorable experiences of my whole life. We saw Rigoletto, and the production was spectacular. I’ve never been to a more impressive opera production. Because it is outdoors, the singers and the orchestra are miked up, but this does not detract from the performance in any way, and the quality of the PA is excellent( they have just spent millions upgrading it). We were staying in Lindau, which is also on the lake, and we travelled to and from the opera by boat, which really added to the experience. See more..

Installation of the DomQuartier in 2014 restored the original architectural unity of the Cathedral and Residenz precinct, also including the Benedictine monastery of St Peter’s and thus creating an internationally unique museum project. Over 400 year ago, the Salzburg prince-archbishops began to transform the town into an Italian-style Baroque gem. They created a masterpiece of urban design, which is today a UNESCO World Heritage site. See more..

    - Well worth visiting but also quite stuffed

    Liechtensteinklamm image
Liechtenstein Gorge is certainly one of the longest, deepest, and most impressive gorges in the Alps. The mighty thunder of the waterfall, the moss-grown rocks in rich green, a legendary atmosphere, and sun rays that create a rainbow in the fine water mist. The unique natural spectacle in the Salzburger Land is known for an unforgettable trip of a special kind - an experience for the whole family. Over thousands of years, the thundering water falls and the rushing masses of water have cut more and more deeply into the mountain and have created a gorge. The rocks stand so narrow and high in places that only a small strip of the sky remains visible. See more..

    - Beautiful walk with view on Salzburg
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Kapuzinerberg image
We went on a walk on the Kapuzinerberg, the hill was a bit of a climb, but on the hill the view was worth it. There are multiple viewpoints where you had a view on different parts of the city, such as Hohensalzburg, Altenstad but also the mountains around the city. We walked to the franziskischlössl and back, which took as around 2 hours, but definetly worth it. See more..

    - Amazing view

    Gipfelwelt 3000 image
High above, in 3.029 metres above sea level and directly at the border to the Hohe Tauern National Park, you can feel alpine nature with all your senses. An alpine experience, which is usually reserved for experienced alpinists on their mountain tours, turns into a leisurely excursion at the Kitzsteinhorn in 3.000 metres above sea level. Reached easily with the comfortable cable cars, the Gipfelwelt 3000 is a popular excursion destination all year round. The view from the viewing platforms "Top of Salzburg“ and "National Park Gallery“ is marvellous. The glaciated peaks of the Hohe Tauern National Park glisten in the sunshine and Austria's highest mountain, the Grossglockner, peeks at eye level through the clouds. Austria's mightiest mountains are at your fingertips here. You can experience the glacier close up on a summerly slide in the Ice Arena below the peak. See more..

Very nice cable car ride to the top. The view there is beautiful: three countries, the Alps, and the lake. The walk down took us less than an hour with our five-year old. We took a break on a bench halfway down, to rest and just take in the wonderful scenery. Well worth it if you are in Dornbirn. See more..

Whether you're a keen driver or just want to admire the stunning Alpine views, you'll love the Malta Alpine Road. There's a small toll (per passenger) and off you go. The higher you climb, well it just gets better and better. Spectacular scenery, twisting roads, ancient tunnels, and we stopped off at several spots along the road for photographs, including hiking trails past many spectacular waterfalls. The adventure continues at the top of the trail where you can cross the vast Kölnbrein Damn. There is literally something for everyone here. Allow at least half a day to enjoy this visit properly.
