Bought a shoulder bag & a small zippered case for sunglasses in May. Purse is exceptionally well made - strong zipper than works smoothly, fun summer beach print with coral starfish. Inside are several pockets that line both sides & make my cell phone, credit card/license and lipstick easy to find while driving. Shoulder strap is substantially made without any raveling threads, & I keep my keys in the pocket located on the outside. Owner instructed me on hand washing the canvas when needed. Back on another trip now in Oct & bought a small faux leather bag on a long string/strap for crossbody use when biking in Cedar Key. Many styles & patterns, including duffel bag luggage, friendly owners, custom orders welcomed & will ship upon completion of the item. Excellent quality products. See more..

Turtle Trail Art Gallery is a dream come true. Its a 1930 cracker store with a cracker house next door. Hi, Im Nancy B, 7th generation on this island. As a child i used to dream about living there so after 4 decades of being an oysterwoman I now live there and that cracker store is now my gallery. In my gallery u will discover why I left the water. My true callings, chainsaw art and photography. Each turtle I sculpt bears the name of the person who perchased the one before. Everything here is a one of a kind oridignal. I do take custom orders. Also we have my nieces decoupage shells and my cousins cedar bowls and pens. Its a family business. And thats what its all about right, family. Twice a week ( call for res) I also hold Artist At Heart. This is where we gather togetheer in my yard and paint a wood cutout of a turtle, shark or some other critter. NO PHOTOGRAPHY PLEASE. 8. 5.0 Cedar Key Community Center (1 review)
    - Cedar Key Community Center attracs MAJOR LEAGUE art stars!
    Civic Centres
    Cedar Key Community Center image
The month I visited the Cedar Key Florida Community Center there was an exhibition of Clyde Butcher's photography, Clyde Butcher's being the Ansel Adams of Florida. Spectacular work! Downstairs is a gift shop where the work of local artists and artisants are sold. This is truly an out-of-the-ordinary small, but extrodinary place. And since many travelers seem to wonder if sites are dog-friendly, my guess is no. However if your dog is a true conniseure of fine arts work, can tell a Braque from a Picasso and you can restrain the animal from peeing on the walls, maybe your pet would be allowed and enjoy a visit to the upstairs gallery. Human children under the age of 18 (if I remember that restriction correctly)) must accompanied by an adult. The stairway might be difficult for someone needing a wheelchair. There might be an elevator, but I don't know. If you can't visit the Community Center in time to see the Clyde Butcher exhibit, his studio is in Venice, Florida. Best wishes. See more..

    - Nice unexpected place for a park
    Spent 1-2 hours Cemeteries
    Cemetery Point Park image
We heard about this park so we decided to check it out. I was surprised to see so many activities around a cemetery to be honest. It was a beautiful place! The trails were great and the outdoor fitness equipment was a pleasant surprise. I love the artsy and laid-back vibes of this island. A walk thru the cemetery was very interesting to see all the various dates going back to the 1800s. It even had some good fishing spots. I can see where this would be a favorite among locals. Cedar Keyhole Artists Co-op & Gallery image
I have always been a fan of co-ops! It was fulfilling to shop at a store, where the artists themselves are truly invested in this co-op. The offerings were terrific. The shopping experience was almost as if we were in a gallery, viewing beautiful art. It was lovely to appreciate the wooden boxes and carvings, jewelry, paintings, prints, cards and pottery. Yes! We managed to walk out of there with a couple of bagfuls, both for our home and as gifts. Here, here for supporting artists! See more..

The clams and oysters were outstanding ! We wheeled our cooler in and they filled it up and packed them with ice. The oysters and clams were probably the best I have ever had. The salt content in the oysters was second to none. Stop and load up when you leave Cedar Key, you won't regret it. See more..

  21. 4.0 Cedar Key Railroad Trestle Nature Trail (93 reviews)
    - Easy going walk
Spent < 1 hour Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails
Cedar Key Railroad Trestle Nature Trail image
This trail was pleasant. The history is fascinating. It is hard to believe that from 1861-1932, this was the site of actively traveled train tracks. Now, it offers a sweet, shaded sanctuary. Our experience in February, was that it was highly maintained (I mention this because I read other reviews that express poor trail maintenance). If one is interested in the flora, they will be pleased; the signs along the way were informative. Benches are placed throughout if needed. It was surprising that during our hal hour on the trail, we passed five others. It is nice to know that others are enjoying this trail, too! See more..
  22. 4.0 Shell Mound County Park (67 reviews)
    - Great place to spend an afternoon!
    Parks • Hiking Trails
    Shell Mound County Park image
What lovely boardwalks, and trails that meander through marshes and woods! There was plenty of signage sharing information about the history and eco-system. It was delightful to be among the Spanish Moss, and the Palms We took two short trails; both were loops. One was around the burial sites and the other was on the Dennis Creek Trail. We walked about 1.5 miles. The scenery continuously changes, the trails are maintained and on a weekday in February, it was not crowded at all! See more..
  23. 4.0 Site of the Rosewood Massacre Memorial (3 reviews)
    - Visiting is a duty and an honor
    Monuments & Statues
Site of the Rosewood Massacre Memorial image
I am thankful for this memorial. Stopping there and taking a pause to read and reflect motivated me to learn more about the massacre. I did so on my return home. What a horrific time in our history. It is important that people are aware of this. Like the Holocaust, "never again" resonates clearly. See more..
  24. 3.5 Cedar Key Beach (60 reviews)
    - Just ok
    Spent 2-3 hours Beaches
    Cedar Key Beach image
Cedar Key is a very small, quiet town. If you are used to vacationing in more commercialized areas, this will be very different. Very few restaurants and they close early. Many places closed during the week. A few quaint shops, but again, short "open" hours. Beaches reminded me of being on a lake, not the ocean. We stayed for 5 nights and got bored quickly. The only thing I really enjoyed were the birds and dolphins that are plentiful to see. See more..
  25. 3.5 Gulf Kart Company (32 reviews)
    - Superior cart rental
    Game & Entertainment Centers
    Gulf Kart Company image
George might be grumpy, but he offers a superior product. Cart worked very well and we loved the solar powered roof to keep it charged. We rented a golf cart from another place (their cart stalled three times and we had to push to get back to our rental home...this was after only a few sporadic trips around the little town. We charged the cart overnight and brought it back). Upon returning the other cart, we walked over to Gulf Kart Company and were able to secure a two-day rental on the spot. Reservations are recommended/preferred and the business is cash only. Must call or walk up to reserve, as there is no online booking. Price appears to be slightly more, but Gulf Kart includes taxes/fees in the flat rate. See more..
  26. 3.5 Cedar Key Scrub State Reserve (32 reviews)
    - Just a quick stop
    Nature & Wildlife Areas
Cedar Key Scrub State Reserve image
We only stopped here for a little while: we weren't really dressed for hiking, so we only stretched our legs a bit. Based on the cars we were the only people there. Our small stop is only worth mentioning because we happened to see a large family of wild pigs on our little walk, and it added something extra for our day. the piglets were so cute! See more..
