  1. 5.0 Pha Nam Yoi or Isan Buddhist Park (9 reviews)
    - A sight worth seeing
    Parks
Pha Nam Yoi or Isan Buddhist Park image
If there is one Buddhist Temple you do not want to miss it is Isan Buddhist Park. The grounds are immaculate and the temple is splendidly ornate with detail that I have never seen before. When we went there was some construction works being undertaken, however this had little to no impact on our visit. As you come in at the bottom of the hill there is a small market place with many stalls selling all sorts of goods and food. See more..
  2. 5.0 Prasert Songkhram Army Golf Course (1 review)
    - Water, water...
    Golf Courses
Prasert Songkhram Army Golf Course image
An interesting 9 holes golf course. Absolutely not hilly, but omnipresent water is waiting for your ball... Bunkers of fine sand and some narrow fairways, European style. Warm welcome, fee 200 Thb, you will like to come back. Long range practice. Putting green. See more..
  3. 4.5 Wat Pha Nam Yoi - Isaan Buddhist Park (57 reviews)
    - Well worth the effort to visit this wonderful place
    Religious Sites
Wat Pha Nam Yoi - Isaan Buddhist Park image
Phra Maha Chedi Chai Mongkol is the official name of this beautiful complex located about 90 km north of the city of Roi Et. Although it is still under construction, the white and gold exterior will dazzle and the multilevel central chedi is more spectacular at each floor. Don't give up. Climb the final spiral staircase all the way to the top and experience the peaceful sanctuary, although you may hear some heavy breathing from others who have made it to the top. Views from the windows and balconies at each level are well worth the effort. If you are anywhere near Roi Et, this is a site not to be missed. See more..
  4. 4.5 Bueng Phlan Chai (44 reviews)
    - Wonderful, maintained park to relax at.
    Bodies of Water
    Bueng Phlan Chai image
Since 4-5 years ago, the city officials have been renovating this city park to make it one of the best in Thailand. The locals seem to take pride in not littering and keeping their community clean. Unlike many cities, the locals respect the rules and do not drive or park on the designated bike lane that follows the circular street and promenade around the park. Most walkways, fountains, recreation buildings and restrooms at this nicely landscaped park have been upgraded. Unfortunately the lack of building codes of the concrete buildings ( different heights and ugly architecture) and the two towering communication towers around the perimeter of the park interferes with the park’s scenic location. 5. 4.5 Somdet Phra Srinakarindra Park Roi Et (44 reviews)
    - Phalanchai Lake
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
Somdet Phra Srinakarindra Park Roi Et image
Only a morning visit to this town where we drove around Phalanchai Lake which is perhaps the most picturesque part of the town, then had relaxing coffees at shop on the lakeside. Lunch and afternoon were spent at Robinson department store about 5km out of town which has many good restaurants to choose from. Shopping consists of mainly brand name goods at reasonable prices. 6. 4.5 Phra Maha Chedi CHai Mongkol (38 reviews)
    - Absolutely stunning
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
Phra Maha Chedi CHai Mongkol image
I've visited quite a few temples around Thailand and this one would definitely be in my top 5. Everything from the size of the temple area (think football stadium), the statuary, the fountains, the overall detail, the man hours, the manicured gardens, it is all absolutely stunning. When I first walked in I just stood there for a few moments gobsmacked. Located around 70kms NE of Roi Et it was worth every baht I paid Mr Lek's limousine taxi service to take me there. We stopped off for a bite to eat on the way back. See more..
  7. 4.5 Wat Pa Kung (12 reviews)
    - Very scenic Wat
Spent < 1 hour Religious Sites
    Wat Pa Kung image
In the middle of Isan, in Si Somdet district, the building was started and completed within a single year (2004) by followers of the late Luang Pu Sri Mahweero. The tiered stupa Chedi Hin Sai is a great place to contemplate life. To sit back and to inhale the spirit of this unique place. Chedi Hin Sai is open daily from 8am to 6pm. Admission is free. Respectful visits are requested. Luang Pu Sri Maheeero also built Phra Maha Chedi Chai Mongkol - one of Thailand’s largest pagodas. See more..
  8. 4.5 Wat Pa Non Sawan (8 reviews)
    - Buddhist sculture park
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Wat Pa Non Sawan image
Fascinating array of statues, artifacts and Buddhist paraphanalia centered on a multi-storey temple/tower said to hold a bone from Lord Buddha, but the bone is made from diamond There is also a very large reclining Buddha. The complex came out of the mind of a revered monk who lived to be 108 years old. He certainly had a fertile imagination. We stayed only an hour because of the heat but it could easily be a two hour spend. This temple complex is not something you see everyday and is well worth the 15 minute diversion from the main road. The photos from others will give you the idea. See more..
  9. 4.5 Noey Sod Park (7 reviews)
    - Nice place in a boring town
Spent < 1 hour Speciality & Gift Shops
    Noey Sod Park image
Attractive place for a cup of good coffee. Also the place to buy local foodstuff. A fresh face in an otherwise drap town. See more..
  10. 4.0 Wat Burapha Phiram (42 reviews)
    - If you build it, they will come!
Spent < 1 hour Religious Sites
    Wat Burapha Phiram image
Not exactly on the beaten tourist path, but how can you pass up the opportunity to see Thailand's tallest Buddha statue? The 67-meter tall image towers over the community and requires a wide-angle lens or back up considerably to capture all. The nicest surprise for us was the fabulous wall murals in the main temple... don't miss them. The entryway to the temple was a bit dirty with bird droppings when we were there, but the interior was sparkling and the paintings are well worth a look. See more..
  11. 4.0 Mueang Roi Et Municipality Aquarium (23 reviews)
    - A clean, modern aquarium which compliments the city park area of Roiet.
    Aquariums
Mueang Roi Et Municipality Aquarium image
Small but a nice aquarium displaying a variety of fishes. I was impressed how clean each fish aquarium was with proper lighting. Unfortunately the captions are not in English. In the lobby area is a nice wall mural displaying how bee wax figurines were once made. The wax chedi is an example of this technology. The city aquarium is clean and a nice addition to this province city. See more..
  12. 4.0 Wat Klang Ming Mueang (16 reviews)
    - Best place we visited in Roi Et
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Wat Klang Ming Mueang image
We didn't have much time to see the sights in Roi Et, but I'm glad we came here. There weren't any other visitors when we came late in the day and it was good to have the place to ourselves. We really enjoyed the elegant ancient temple with its exterior restored paintings. See more..
  13. 4.0 Roi Et National Museum (13 reviews)
    - Education source for local knowledge.
    Speciality Museums
    Roi Et National Museum image
This museum displays story of the city in three main themes by three storeyed exhibition. It's only me as a visitor on sunday, the officers are very friendly and helpful. At the beginning , there is geographical display of Roi Et landscape and its underground treasures: potaz, kaolin , etc. at the other section, exhibition is about how come the city , main governors in the past, utensils, pictures from the past about the city. On the second floor, display continues about prehistoric era, Khmer influence on this land and highlight is the golden five-headed Naka amulet. The top floor is the story of silk, Boon Pa Vade story. I spent time here excitingly. See more..
  14. 4.0 Tham Pha Nam Thip Non-hunting Area (6 reviews)
    - Sunset view at Pha Mok Mi Wai
    Nature & Wildlife Areas
Tham Pha Nam Thip Non-hunting Area image
Within the Tham Pha Nam Thip Non-Hunting Area, next to the park headquarters, is a little cliff called Pha Mok Mi Wai. One might come across articles saying this place is good for watching the sea of fog, but this cliff faces west, or this visitor wonders how true it is. But still, this is a great place for watching the sunset. Next to this cliff are the bungalows that the park rents out to visitors. There is also a small little canteen selling food and drinks. See more..
  15. 4.0 Chedi Maha Mongkol Bua (6 reviews)
    - Temple
    Religious Sites
    Chedi Maha Mongkol Bua image

  16. 4.0 So Da Cave (5 reviews)
    - Unusual Waterfall
    Waterfalls
    So Da Cave image
This is an unusual waterfall since one can visit both sides – the one in front of and the one behind the vertical stream of water. The side in front looks like many other waterfalls. You can see pools of water, where people, mainly kids, take a bath and play. The side behind the falling water looks like a cave, cut in half the long way. Here is a temple area with a Buddha image. Monks that live here maintain the place. The parking lot has many food stalls and souvenir shops. A visit can be easily combined with visiting Phra Maha Chedi Chai Mongkol, a large pagoda not too far away. From a view point near the waterfall there you can actually see it, protruding out of the dense jungle. Another place to add to your trip is the nearby “Tham Pha Nam Thip Non-hunting Area”, which does not have the status of a national park, but is treated like one and it is under the authority of the Thai National Park administration. It is just 10 kilometres away. See more..
  17. 4.0 Wat Samran (2 reviews)
    - Quiet location
    Tuesday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Religious Sites • Churches & Cathedrals
    Wat Samran image
Located around 30kms east of Roi Et. I combined this temple with Wat Pa Non Sawan which is in the same area. A simplified temple which doesn't take hours to visit but it does have some cool looking buddha sculptures. If in the area not be missed. See more..
  18. 4.0 Wat Nuea (2 reviews)
    - An interesting Buddhist temple with ornate columns and exterior.
Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings
    Wat Nuea image
If you are “temple” exploring in Roi et city, it is worth a look.Unfortunately the over population of pigeons roosting upon the ornate columns & eves are destroying the precious work of the craftsmen who labored endlessly to build this beautiful Buddhist temple. See more..

    Phra Mahathat Woramaha Wihan image

    - The first ruler of Roi-et
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
Monument of Phra Khattiyawongsa (Thon) image
When leaving the island in the middle of Phalanchai Lake, in exactly western direction, there is a footbridge leading you to the ring road next to the lake. Maintain the same direction when crossing that road and enter Meechokchai Road. After 500 metres you will reach the monument set in the middle of a roundabout. It features Phra Khattiyawongsa (Thon), the first ruler of this region. King Taksin himself appointed him 1775. Under his control Roi-et town developed and became very prosperous. See more..

  23. 3.0 Ku Phra Ko Na (4 reviews)
    - WERY OLD TEMPLE, WITH MONKEYS.
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Ku Phra Ko Na image
An sort of "stupa" with God images in a room at the base. And two other brick buildings from 11th. century. The sanctuary is still in use of monks. The first who will meet visitors are a horde of monkeys. Be careful if feeding, they can be aggressive. Don't park just outside or just inside the gate. Proceed to the left inside, until there is a guard and dogs and cats. The monkeys don't come there.Actually no place for small children. See more..

    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Bueng kluea image

  25. 3.0 Wat Bueng Phra Lan Chai (2 reviews)
    - Elaborately Decorated Wat
Spent < 1 hour Religious Sites
Wat Bueng Phra Lan Chai image
The main feature of this Wat is the tall Ubosot. It's in the town centre close to the lake. If you visit the lake, then it would be a pity not to visit this Wat. However, it's not really worth a visit on its own merit, in my opinion. See more..
  26. 3.0 Roi Et Science And Cultural Centre For Education (1 review)

Points of Interest & Landmarks • Educational sites
Roi Et Science And Cultural Centre For Education image
Had a stop here, when passing by. Made as an education centre for younger students. But also interesting for adults, as an brush up. Some facts about lokal history and geology. And a planetarium of middle standard. And it was very cold in the planetarium, reminded me about long distance buses in Thailand. Full speed on the aircond. As cold as possible. Warm clothes recommended. There is also an cafeteria beside, but it vas closed, because of closed schools perhaps. See more..
